Wow. Never thought I would say that about an eye exam and eyeglass shopping experience but allow me to explain. This lovely shop/office was suggested through my insurance so I made an appointment. I'd been having vision issues in my left eye for a few months and had been wearing readers from a high-end online store that I thought were pretty fashionable. As soon as I walked into Eyes on Hudson, I realized that this was going to be a VERY SPECIAL experience. The shop itself is beautiful. Gorgeous glasses of all types line the shelves as well as accessories you simply do not see anywhere else. Sweet Tina at the front desk whisked me into my first examining room with a thorough question and answer session that prepared me for my best ever (and I'm NOT YOUNG) eye exam with Dr. Rogerson. Thorough does not even begin to describe the process by which she diagnosed my astigmatism in one eye that had gone unnoticed at previous appointments with other doctors! As if that wasn't enough, it was time to select a pair of glasses. Peering at all of the gorgeous options, I asked the very stylish optician Justin for help. From across the room he appears with a stunning pair of Hunter green frames that I would have never selected on my own-- but look PERFECT on me and I'm not a vain person! How did he do that? I'm never going anywhere else for glasses EVER! When I went to pick up my frames, I also was fitted for contact lenses which was another awesome experience. Thank you Santiago for your assistance in selecting the coral chain--you were right--the yellow was too sallow! The entire team at Eyes on Hudson is just EPIC. Don't change one thing. I went to Eyes on Hudson to fulfill prescriptions for two pairs of very specialized glasses. The optician took my prescriptions, but did not do any consultation or measurements at the visit. (I brought my own frames.) When I received the glasses and I couldn't see out of them, I found out from a subsequent visit to my orthoptist and another optician that both pair of glasses we made incorrectly and that the prescription in one pair was way off. When I contacted Eyes on Hudson about the issues, my concerns were met with exasperation and an overall unwillingness to work with me. I have since gone to another optician who specializes in difficult prescriptions. Perhaps Eyes on Hudson is very good for general glasses. But I would not recommend the business if one has any special needs. read more

Long story short, this place is a 10 out of 5, would recommend 1000% to anyone looking for thorough care and attention to getting not just a careful prescription for your vision but also fantastic customer care and frame selection! Dr. Rogerson was very thorough in trying to get the best vision possible for my eyes. My right eye has some bad history and for the last few years hasn't really been seeing much or aiding my vision. We did a lot of the regular "1 or 2" testing but I also did some other comparisons I've never done before - like the black letters on red vs green backgrounds. They also have other eye health check up services like the glaucoma check and a retina scan! On top of all the good health care and explanations, Dr. Rogerson is super nice and friendly. Thanks to her I can see better than I have in years out of both eyes and for that I am so very grateful. As someone's who's worn glasses since early grade school, I remember glasses frame selection kind of fun but just like a pick and go experience. However this was like being at Saks Fifth with a personal shopper and stylist! Justin was fantastic in frame selection - you pick whatever you want to try plus he will select a few as well. We actually wound up picking frames he recommended! Their frames brands are all independent eyewear, they even carry the Masunaga line. The final adjustments for your glasses that Justin does also makes the biggest difference for fit and feel. All my things were packed up nicely including some anti-fog wipes in a cute eco friendly Eyes on Hudson tote, which I love. I actually came here on the recommendation of my mom, who happened to have contact lenses to pick up when I had my appointment. They put her contacts in a nice bag and made sure I picked it up on the way out, with regards to my mom. Little nice details like that are often overlooked but when present make the biggest difference. Last but certainly not least, my appointments were in 01/2021 meaning peak COVID pandemic. They have easy simple online appointment booking with consideration for social distancing. Dr. Rogerson and Justin were both thorough with their sanitation. All the equipment was wiped down before arrival and right before use. We all wore masks the whole time as well. I am not local to NY (as I primarily live in CA) but am strongly considering coming here once a year to get the quality care and friendly fun they have at Eyes on Hudson! read more

I've had eye exams at at least fifteen different shops in four states, including a bunch in NYC, and of all of them this was definitely my favorite exam+retailer, and I think the best. I have never had such a comprehensive exam, with a patient and detailed explanation of what is going on with my eyes, showing me the images. The doctor gave me a full and patient analysis with pictures and good information, such that I could understand clearly what my options are for solutions. Then, add to the helpful exam a positive, friendly staff who don't seem harried or rushed, a distinctly non-corporate character, and an impressively relaxed, pleasant shop, and you've got first-rate service in terms of both the substance and the experience. I am writing this seeing more clearly than I have in all my 36 years. I have been to many optometrists (at least 10) and have finally found the one that I will be returning to - and making sure everyone I know (in person and on the internet) goes there too. Dr. Rogerson took the time to ask me questions and run tests that no other doctor has ever done. I now have glasses with a prism (which no one had ever told me about before) and feel like a new person. Justin was a gem helping me pick out frames from a selection of brands I had not seen before that were fairly priced and totally chic. Then he showed up with an itemized report of how my insurance would work with what I selected so there were no surprises or gotchas later. When I went to pick up my frames, they were literally perfect. Perfect fit - another thing that has never happened to me before. Also, must be said, the vibe and ambiance (exposed wood, record player spinning, super clean, fab neon logo) are a true homage to all that is great about the River Towns. Dr Rogerson and Justin were amazing and the carefully curated glasses selection and the beautifully done office all made my experience exceptional. Dr Rogerson really took the time to understand my eye history and make sure I had a thorough and complete exam. The facilities were spotless as well. The eye glass selection was so fantastic with really unique frames that I couldn't choose just one. I ended up treating myself to 3 new pairs and a pair of prescription sunglasses. The styles are so great that I don't mind wearing them as an accessory! Dr Rogerson and Justin also have a great selection of local products and accessories, helping to support local artisans. The Rivertowns is so lucky to have this new local option for high quality eye care, glasses and accessories. Dr. Rogerson and Justin provided the best eye care experience for me when looking to get an eye exam and select some new frames after exclusively wearing contact lenses for far too long. Eyes on Hudson is beautifully decorated and inviting - you feel like you are sitting in their living room waiting for an appointment.
