After a frustrating ordeal with EZcontacts.com - where I unknowingly purchased a frame marketed as "new" that arrived used and stretched - and an unhelpful visit to LensCrafters, I decided to take a chance when passing by Hudson River Eye Care. Optician Rex Osei had no obligation to assist me, yet he went above and beyond, performing what seemed impossible and ultimately saving me $620! I have been going to Hudson River Eye Care for years and they have always been very professional. Not this time. It started with what it felt a rushed exam that resulted in wrong prescription on the first pair, the team was helpful trying to fix it. It took a month to get my first pair, the second pair also was wrong and it took a month to get it. Finally after almost 3 months of waiting i asked for may money back. The local team is very nice and professional but or the lab can't get it right or the doctor rushed the prescription. I think a little bit of both. whatever it is after 3 months I have no glasses and a prescription that is wrong. read more

I bought a pair of mirrored sunglasses. A little over a year later, the glasses were deteriorating and getting splotched. Obviously, sunglasses should not deteriorate after a year. I took them back, and they refused to repair the glasses stating that the warranty elapsed. read more

When this firm was in Greenburgh first as Eyes on U for about 35 years and later when the new company bought it out, parking was easy and the staff was cordial. Today I went to the sole location in Tarrytown and found the male employee very gruff and curt with my husband and me. I wanted to replace a broken frame and keep the lenses. Parking was only by meter in front of the store. Traffic on Broadway was horrendous. I was told not to touch anything in the store to try on frames. This abysmal treatment has cost the company two customers. After posting this negative review, I received two phone calls from the optician explaining his paranoia with Covid-19 despite precautions taken in the store. We agreed to meet yesterday at 9:00 a.m. for me to pick up my replacement frame with my lenses. When I tried to pay him for the frame, he told me it was complimentary! Aug 2021, stopped by this store today and spoke to Rex because I wanted an estimate on the cost of lens replacements for my sunglasses and my everyday frames (distance lenses/none reflective) Rex's price quote for each frame was very fair compared to the eye glass store on the corner across the street called Raymond's Optician. Raymond's wanted to charge me over $100 more for lenses on each frame, are they crazy. Honestly, when you are looking for new glasses or replacement lenses, you should shop around to get the best price because every store has a different price point, and make sure you get it in writing. All and all, I will be giving my business to Hudson River Eye Care because their prices were fair. I also thought Rex, and the staff who worked there were very professional and friendly. If I could rate this a 0 star I would I went back in 2016 and I had a great experience they weren't taking my insurance at the time and I paid out of pocket come to find out recently they finally took my insurance come to find out the day of my appointment they want to try and hit me with over $100 dollar bill - even after they called the day before confirming how much everything will be. They lost a customer for good I will never be going back how dare they do that to someone not only disabled but someone who is not working in this pandemic and can't afford it and only had enough to pay for what she was told. read more

I had a decent experience the first coupe of times here. The prices were fine and service was acceptable. Unfortunately, I signed up for their text message alerts and things went downhill fast. I received an alert that my exam was due, so I called to schedule an appointment. The person on the phone told me that if I waited another six weeks,, I would be eligible for new frames as well as the exam and new lenses too. I scheduled the appointment for that date. The appointment was confirmed via text message. When I showed up for the appointment, the woman was very curt when she told me that I did not have an appointment. I told her that I had a text that confirmed the appointment and she was even more abrupt and showed zero empathy as she told me it was my fault because I didn't call to confirm the appointment. I then asked to please reschedule the appointment and the woman refused to do so, saying she was too busy and did not have access to the schedule. At this point, I became upset and raised my voice. I was upset. The woman asked me to leave the store because she "felt threatened", so I left. Even though I have had a couple of good experiences there, I could not bring myself to reschedule my appointment. read more

Dr. DeDeo always rushes through appointments and barely gives me the time of day. He didn't document that he fitted me for a new brand of contacts that he DID in fact fit me for that I actually preferred and wished to purchase. Upon calling back, I was informed that I would need to pay for another fitting because "he had no record" of fitting me with the lenses. So either he isn't documenting the appointments properly or is trying to take my money, either way, I'm not going back. read more

What a bunch of crooks!!!I sent my son there for an exam for contacts all of a sudden it was $45 more than they told me on the phone for some crap they add on and convinced him to do. First, they didn't want to give me the script for the contacts and then I called to ask the cost of contacts and they told me how much but if I order from them, I get a $300 rebate never ever did they tell me it only depended on if I never received a rebate from another place for contacts. They were much more expensive for the contacts, but I was assured I would receive $300 back in rebates but I had to order directly from them so I did and guess what they lied!!!!And when I called and spoke to the guy in front, he told me he understood, and I should get my money back and he would call me back and a week later he never called. Then I called back today and told the girl no one called me back and she tried to brush me off again considering they already robbed me they don't want to be bothered but I wouldn't accept No for an answer and then the most ignorant Dr. I have ever spoke to a Dr. Alami tells me that I can always send back the unused contacts, but I have to pay shipping and for the box opened which would defeat the purpose of the rebate. I will definitely be contacting The Ethics committee about this place's fraudulent practices! read more

I'm amending a review. I came in during a busy time in my schedule. The doctor was kind enough to do the exam twice at my discretion and that of my current optician . The frames chosen were unique and fit according when sent expeditiously by mail. I saved time and money. I appreciate their gracious handling of my unusual need to come in twice. I never meet the owner, however I want him to know that my overall impression was that the staff was professional and courteous. Thank you for a good experience for my first two visits. I went here last week because I needed a new prescription for my contact lenses. Dr. Alami did my examination. She was very friendly and knowledgeable and I felt comfortable discussing my options for lenses with her. She placed an order for new lenses for me and I received a call less than a week later that they had arrived and were ready for pickup. I will definitely go back next year. read more

Wonderful customer service & Dr. Alami was very nice & thorough. Rex was incredibly caring & patient while he helped me choose a new frame style; he even took photos of me wearing different frames. ****They basically took $105 from me/ Any unpaid medical??? bill over $100 can be reported to the credit agencies, they know this, how diabolical,they have you over a barrel/I had no choice but to pay Please read: As a member of the Tarrytown community I decided to go to the HUDSON RIVER EYE CARE(A BIG BIG MISTAKE) in Tarrytown with a health related eye issue and left with a $105 bill and the issue unresolved with more questions then answers. They told me that my insurance was accepted before I went there and when I received a bill in the mail I was dismayed. I received no services while there, no eye exam and they didn't see any problem causing my blurry vision, the optometrist wasn't qualified apparently to detect any eye disorder,no tests done. My recommendation is that if she couldn't recognize my simple problem how can she give a good prescription, plus for good measure a $105 bill when I am covered by Empire Blue Cross . The only reason I went there is because they told me they accepted my insurance , they obviously do not. The OPTOMOLOGIST I went to next was the awesome Dr. Joseph Castellano *****right on South Broadway-Tarrytown. He is my hero! He did a comprehensive exam, testing for all eye diseases and issues. He detected my eye issue very quickly, which was an ingrown/misdirected eye lash rubbing against my cornea, which he promptly removed. He was gentle and most of all HONEST!!! plus only a $20 co-payment which is the normal procedure. read more

Went to Hudson River Eye Care in Tarrytown and at first I thought they were great. I see a glaucoma specialist at a major teaching hospital in NYC every 6 months, so my eyes are well taken care of. My vision has not changed in 5 years, when I had an older opthalmologist I no longer see. My eyes are examined every single time I go there, and I do not need a new prescription. I wanted to get prescription lenses put into my own frame, and I paid for it up front. Then I get a call saying Hudson River called my old opthalmologist--whom I no longer see because he did not pick up the developing glaucoma--saying they called him and he says I am no longer his patient. So they determine I can't have my prescription lenses filled because I left that doctor. So they want me to be examined by them (and pay for that in addition to paying for the new lenses?) or pay for my new opthalmologist to write a new prescription, even though I go to a glaucoma clinic where it has been determined that there is no reason for a new prescription when I do not need it. I am an adult woman and I happen to be wearing glasses with the exact same prescription lenses (glasses I got just a little over a year ago without going through this rigamarole) and I would like my prescription in the frames of my chosing. I have had broken glasses and been able to walk into eyeglass stores and have existing prescription lenses copied, but Hudson River doesn't want to use an existing, legal, valid prescription. The reason we chose this location initally was because of the reviews. However, it turned out to be a pretty awful experience. The optometrist Miss Lara Alami did not greet us properly nor introduce herself. She requested our medical history and medications with the exam room wide open, and spoke extremely loudly over the duration of the visit, while there were other customers in the store. She did not sanitize the chin rest between patients, and the entire eye exam was very rushed. We did not feel comfortable with the process, environment, or Miss Alami. We will not be going here for any further eye exams, and were appalled by the blatant disregard for patient privacy, zero sanitation, and extreme lack of professionalism-would not recommend read more

First I have to admit: I HATE all doctors and everything associated with them. That being said, this was the most amazing experience! From the minute I spoke to Candace on the phone and made the appointment it was a phenomenal experience. My appointment was with Dr. Alami (who I absolutely love and adore) but I also got to speak with, meet and joke with Dr DeDeo, who was so personable! When I was with Jaquay picking out frames (which took over an hour and she never made me feel rushed or like a bother) it was like being with a girlfriend hanging out! This was my first time going there and I cannot recommend them enough, I am not quick to praise but THIS PLACE was amazing from start to finish! I had to wait 30 minutes for my appointment. My appointment itself was quick and expedited due to the fact that I was on my lunch break and had to go back to work. The staff were nice. I would recommend this location but maybe try to get an appointment early in the morning or plan to dedicate a chunk of time. read more

Best optometrist and eye ware experience I have ever experienced. Dr DeDeo provided comprehensive examination while explaining all the options available with pluses and minuses of each option. He was patient and provided information that no other doctors had given me before. The office staff very helpful without trying to sell me the most expensive frames. Exceptional! First of all this place looks very classy and upscale. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I called in 2 days before hand to make my appointment and once I got there I was seen right away by Dr. Dedeo. Dr. Dedeo knows his stuff. He even explained each exam as he was doing it so that I would know what was going on. He was an exceptionally professional doctor but was also very funny and easy going.
