I wanted to like this buisness. Woman owned, local, and fairly decent prices, however, it's not a welcoming environment. One of the technicians crossed a ton of boundaries, and followed a few of my friends on Instagram, "accidentally" ordered the wrong prescription, and only one eye for my contacts and not the other. It wasn't a great experience over all and when I called to tell them I would not be a returning, no one really cared or showed any concern as to why. read more

Review is limited to an eye exam and providers acumen as I have not purchased glasses there. I enjoyed a quick and fast eye exam with great acumen as we went through. I also appreciated her willingness to help pick out some frames with me to consider purchasing. I enjoyed them also walking through my new insurance benefits as well. I made an appointment 3 weeks ago for myself and my 2 children. They called me 4 days before the appointment to tell me they do not allow more than 2 family members to come at a time due to people cancelling. This was AFTER I had to provide my credit card information to even book the appointment in case I was a no call/no show. When I spoke with the receptionist, she just kept telling me it's 'policy'. Who wants to take multiple days for appointments because of some policy that they've already solved with asking for credit card info in case you did not show up? I am not sure I want to trust my eyes to someone who can't 'see' that they've already addressed the issue with the CC info. Now they have lost 3 eye exams and 3 people who need glasses and/or contacts. GREAT JOB!!! read more

Wow...all I can say is that I wish I had done my due diligence (as I 'usually' do) and read the reviews of Eyes On The lake. I would never have gone there based on reviews. My visit turned out to be not veryIt started out pretty good. I called & made an appointment as they were listed as a provider for my insurance plan. The appointment was easy to make. I arrived, presented my insurance and was taken back for my exam. During the exam with the tech, I had several tests done, then I was told that they had a new machine that replaced 'dilating eyes' so they didn't have to dilate eyes. That was great I thought. The end of my visit was with Dr. Schneider. All the diagnostic tests went well with one test showing some areas that she would like to "review and retest in a couple weeks" and that "it could have been just an erroneous response from one eye that could be nothing". She assured me it was important to follow up on in a couple weeks. She was pleasant and also told me that she had found two prescriptions for me. I was a bit surprised as my vision has always been pretty excellent. She said there was some 'room for improvement' on my distance and also 'close up' vision. The distance vision she suggested a 'correction' for was the lowest correction there was available. Not an urgently needed correction, I passed on purchasing glasses for that correction. The close up vision correction was a level of 2.75 in one eye and 2.50 for the other eye...I wear Dollar Store readers, level 2.75. They wanted to sell me +$100 glasses for 'reading'. I passed. I was on my way out of the store when I was informed that my balance due was $39.00. When I asked why I had a balance and that my insurance covers 100% of preventative and diagnostic costs, I was told that this was a charge not covered because the technology and new machine they used, instead of dilating my eyes, wasn't covered. I was dumbfounded. When the tech was touting the new technology and that it was such an improvement to dilating my eyes, they failed to give me a choice in having my eyes dilated or using the new machine & paying $39. Bait & Switch. Now $39.00 surely isn't going to break the bank by any means, it's the way they went about it. They were not transparent in notifying me of any additional charges for this new 'technological diagnostics' or that I even had a choice for that specific test before they performed the test. They just said "this is better because we don't have to dilate your eyes". Then they charge you after the exam is finished. Very poor customer service. I will not be returning to Eyes On The Lake. read more

This is my 2nd year as a patient here. I was so excited to learn Dr. Vaughn Schneider had opened her own practice. I had previously been a patient with her at Warby Parker and had the best experience. This new place has so much cool, new technology. They don't even have to dilate your eyes anymore! There used to be fancy equipment that can take a picture of the inside of your eyes! All the staff is super helpful. I always ask for honest opinions and help from staff when picking out new glasses. Staff here were great at making suggestions. It took about two weeks for my glasses to arrive. I love them. read more

I support local independent businesses, and I want to encourage women owned enterprises. However, Eyes on the Lake operates with a false and haughty sense of entitlement. My bill for a refraction and two sets of lenses, placed into my own frames, was filled with hidden useless charges. To make things worse, my refraction was wrong, making the eyeglasses useless. I see better through my old prescription. A refraction is a simple test, trial and error, if you will. To screw up a refraction is almost impossible. Yet, Eyes on the Lake achieved the impossible. The shop is new, and a patient/customer is surrounded by the newest technology. Almost all the technology are bells and whistles that does nothing more than manual labor. The customer ends up paying for this technology, some of which is listed on your bill. I had a $39 charge for photography. This was in lieu of a dilation of my eyes. My ophthalmologist dilated my eyes 6 months ago. Why did I need some clerk using this technology on me for a charge of $39? I didn't. I also have horrific dry eye syndrome that has been treated by some of the most esteemed ophthalmologists in New York City and Seattle. The optometrist at Eyes on the Lake was rather aggressive providing brochures depicting expensive dry eye treatments that were cosmetic and not medical. She should have paid more attention to the refraction. Remember, optometrists do not go to medical school. Optometry school costs a lot of money, but their entrance requirements are not difficult. I refused all the frivolous coatings and unnecessary additives to my lenses that would have hiked up the pricing, but I was charged for them anyway. I had to phone to get them taken off my already inflated bill. The woman working the front was very nice, and she was knowledgeable about frames, but she follows the ownership mantra of grabbing as much cash from the customer as possible. Independent optical stores are being swallowed up by the national and international chains. It's sad. The way to make it as an independent shop is repeat business and forming customer relationships. Eyes on the Lake is going about it all wrong. I feel sorry for them. They need to listen to advice and develop some business acumen. They're too smitten with themselves to learn how to run an ethical community based enterprise. read more

I was completely disappointed in my experience at Eyes on the Lake. Dr. Schneider was great: I had no problems with my exam, and felt very comfortable with her throughout my initial visit. I really really wanted to like this place and make it my new home. However, my disappointment comes from the surprising lack of customer service I received due to Eyes on the Lake's unprecedented carelessness in making my lenses. What should have been a two-week maximum wait for my new lenses was instead a two-month wait in which I was informed that my glasses were made incorrectly three (3!!) times. I have a very high prescription, so I was wary of going to a new eye care center in the first place, but I thought that the quality represented by the store's shiny exterior would translate to a quality customer experience. Unfortunately, I needed to ask multiple times to be kept updated on the status of my lenses when week after literal week I heard nothing unless I called (only to be informed via text message that their lab had once again messed up my glasses). In the time it took Eyes on the Lake to make one pair of glasses correctly, the seasons changed, I traveled to 3 different states, got COVID and recovered, scheduled and re-scheduled doctor's appointments, and my kid grew three new teeth. As compensation for my "patience," I received two individual contact lenses (plus the two samples I had been promised during my initial visit) and...some cleaning wipes. Cool. Eyes on the Lake could have given me discounted or, frankly, comped lenses, a full box of contact lenses, or at the very least a voucher for a future visit. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Eyes on the Lake or recommending their services to anyone I know. It's one thing to understand that human error (after error... and then another error...) is real, that everyone is just doing their best, and that sometimes you just have need a little patience. It's another thing, though, to feel like your experience is being treated like it's not unusual or even worthy of an apology. TL;DR: skip the Instagram-filtered veneer of this place, and just go to a lens crafters. read more

I wanted to support a local business rather than one of the large chains, and was pleased that Eyes on the Lake was listed as a Tier 1 (reasonably priced) in-network provider in my health insurance network. While I was satisfied with the level of care I received, I felt taken advantage of by their billing practices. I spoke with staff prior to my appointment and provided my insurance information, which does include a benefit for an annual eye checkup. As I was walking out after the appointment, I was informed that I had to pay a $99 office visit fee. When I pointed out that my insurance covers 100% of preventive care, staff insisted that I was mistaken and that I had to pay. I did, and followed up with my insurance provider, which confirmed my benefit. I reached out to Eyes on the Lake, and they claimed that they do not accept insurance for eye exams, but said they would investigate. Its been more than three months, and they have not responded. My insurance provider also reached out directly, and Eyes on the Lake apparently refuses to even submit a claim. Their policy on accepting insurance seems like a bait and switch and I feel taken advantage of. I would not recommend this provider. read more
