WOW. Since moving to Seattle 2 months ago, I've been extremely fortunate to find some great local businesses (many through Yelp). Although this place wasn't a Yelp discovery, it's far and away THE BEST find of all since my move here. First impressions: incredibly up-to-date, plentiful selection of frames; beautiful, light, roomy store layout; and the most knowledgeable, personable, genuinely helpful staff I've ever encountered in an optometrist's office. This place is heavy on attention to detail - from the display of frames to signage to the beverage offerings for patients to the spotless, modern restroom to the exam itself. The moment you approach from the outside, it's obvious that nothing has been overlooked in the layouts or displays. Abundant natural light makes the place absolutely ideal to try on frames, and the staff honestly knows all of their products inside and out. This is the Apple Store of optometry. Dr. Lawson is simultaneously warm, engaging, professional, fun, erudite, practical, empathetic, thorough, and sentient of patient needs. Donna and Christian were completely focused on taking care of every aspect of my first visit. Christian was not just versed on the vast frame collection, he had a natural eye for suggesting which frames would look just right on me. Had I been left unattended, I would have spent 30 minutes narrowing down to the 2 perfect frames he produced for me in less than 5. Donna spent a great deal of time ensuring my paperwork for my vision insurance was exactly as I needed it, and did so while making me feel like a long-time neighbor who'd stopped in to borrow a cup of flour. From the greeting-sans-pressure on entrance through the huge smile on my face as I left, seamless interactions with all of the staff demonstrated impeccable team service all around. Getting an eye exam and contact lens fitting felt more like a spa appointment. Hit the mall for get-what-you-pay-for, quickly processed, mediocre optical errands. Eyes on the Landing is for those of us who seriously care about our vision, want to spend the time to examine every option available today, and be well cared for by a staff who cater to our kind. I've been to more optometry boutiques, stores, mall locations, kiosks, and offices than I care to admit, but for the first time ever, I feel as if I've ARRIVED. UPDATE: I have been going to Eyes on the Landing for almost four years now and have lost count of the number of frames I have bought. I still think Dr Lawson is great, she really cares about her patients. There have been some ups and downs with the staff (growing pains) but the current staff is top notch and the 'core' group has always been amazing. ORIGINAL REVIEW: After reading an article in the Renton Reporter, my girlfriend and I were eagerly anticipating the opening of Eyes on the Landing. When they opened on Black Friday we were not disappointed. We spent some time with the staff trying on frames and scheduled appointments for eye exams the following week. Dr Lawson is a great optometrist; I was very pleased with my exam and the time she spent with me. My girlfriend and I both spent more time with Donna and the rest of the staff selecting frames. Between us we must have tried on over 20 frames before making our selections. The staff is excellent and will take great care of you. Donna did an awesome job working with our insurance providers. When you go be prepared to spend some time, this is not the kind of place where you walk in and pick out something from the wall and they will let you walk out without really thinking about how you look. This is a shopping experience for something that you will be wearing daily for a year or more. We are very excited to have a business like this in the Renton area. I've been coming here for quite a few years now and I've never been happier with an optometrist. As someone who has been wearing glasses and contacts my whole life, I have dealt with many offices with a 'turn & burn' customer service style. Eyes on the Landing have always left me feeling they care and understand any concerns. The Doctors and sales people are super helpful and personable. The one time I had an issue with a box of faulty prescription contact lenses, they did right and replaced the box for me with no charge. This weekend we dropped in to purchase a pair of glasses, I was pleasantly surprised when they happened to have a frame and art show going on. The selection of their hip and fashionable frames were larger for this particular event. They also had a raffle where other local small businesses donated gift cards, as well as offering wine and snacks. Everyone was very nice and uplifting while I was trying to choose frames. I ended up choosing 2 pairs because they (frames & prescription lenses) were 20% off. I am super excited to receive my quality and cute glasses in the weeks to come. I sure do wish I had the experiences that I read about on yelp, which is what prompted me to go here last year for my yearly eye exam. I will say this, Dr. Lawson is super nice . . . however, I had some issues. My eyes had been having some issues when I went in so I knew something had changed for me. We tried several different brands to try and figure out the best fit for me. Twice I went in there after a call that my samples were in and when I got there the wrong ones had been ordered. The first time I thought ok, these things happen. But then it happened again. But what really irritated me was when we finally figured out what brand I was going to use and had her write me a prescription so that I could get them at Costco for much cheaper, it turns out she wrote down the prescription wrong. And I didn't catch this until I was picking up my contacts from Costco. I mean I was literally in the parking lot driving when I looked down and noticed something was not right. Thankfully, they took them back and exchanged them for the correct lenses after she called them and told them of her mistake. And then when I went in to refill my order last month I was told that I would need a new prescription to which I asked, aren't prescription generally written for 2 years, to which they replied yes however Dr. Lawson had written it good only for 1 year. I was a bit irritated to say the least. And trust me, I get that mistakes happen, but this just seemed a bit much for my taste. read more

I had a really good experience that started with the sales guy (technician), recommending that I try the Shamir lens to replace the crappy Zeiss lens recommended by another shop. Being skeptical as I was especially after being talked into moving away from my Varilux, I decided to get two pair, one with Shamir and the other with varilux. The one with Shamir came back in less than a week and I was quite pleased. It definitely was 100x better than zeiss. The varilux was delayed by a few days(cost 1 star) but the quality was as I had expected. I give a slight edge to varilux over Shamir. But the store has outstanding knowledge and customer service when so many eye shops are rude, uncaring and oblivious to the concept of customer service. Eyes landing is boutique so its selection will not be your garden variety frames but more vogue. read more

Once upon a time I didn't know any better, and I bought my new frames and contacts from LensCrafters and Costco and Sams Club. I was always lost among all the different frames and really did my best, but was pretty hopeless at choosing the right shape to flatter my face. This was a dark time in my life, but luckily after moving to the Renton area, kind people led me to Eyes on the Landing! Every part of the process has been a total 180 from my previous experiences - the doctors are patient and helpful, the owners are passionate and involved, and the employees work with you to make sure you're happy and look good in your new frames. I have several pairs of frames from Eyes on the Landing, order contacts here on a regular basis, and often stop in to look at new frames that are in stock, and I plan to keep shopping here for a long time - the personalized service is worth it. I really liked the doctor here but the people looking into my benefits knew NOTHING. They told me I had used my benefit in 2013. In actuality, get an allowance each calendar year, which I later confirmed with my insurance. They also refused to work with any secondary coverage, explain that it was too much work for them to do the paperwork (ok, I can see that part, but not the misunderstanding and misinformation of coverage) So I left the office with no eyeglasses and just a prescription that I will be taking to Eyes on Fremont, which has better prices anyway read more

The optometrists are good, but I've really had a hard time with the support staff over the past few years. This has included being told when I reported I couldn't see with the new prescription that I just needed to get used to it. The straw that has broke the back is calling to report my frames are broken and being asked what I wanted by calling them! The better response would have been, "Let's get you an appointment- when can you come in?". Literally - as good as it gets! From the minute you walk in the front door of Eyes on the Landing you will never want to see another optometrist or purchase glasses elsewhere again. The storefront is modern and clean and offers a great selection of eyeglasses and Dr. Lawson and her staff make fabulous recommendations based on YOUR budget, wants and needs. Both the staff (the 4 employees that I have had the pleasure of interacting with thus far) and Dr. Lawson are top notch. Dr. Lawson is flexible in dealing with her patients, I tend to be on the perfectionist (read: picky) side and she has been patient and full of recommendations for how to continuously move forward in finding the best pair of contacts for me. Yesterday my bus was running late and I ended up missing my appointment (giving them a call to let them know, of course) and they were happy to reschedule me without complaint! Needed new prescriptions so I called in and made an appointment. The next day I showed up for my appointment and once I got there the receptionist told me she needed to update my insurance info since they got new computer system and not everything transfered over. I gave her the same insurance info that hasn't changed but she was still unable to locate my insurance. They got a rep on the phone and did everything they could, which I appreciate, but they weren't able to verify my insurance info. I'm not mad that there was a problem with verifying my insurance. I'm livid that I had to sit in traffic for 40+ minutes to get to their office, just to find out that I wasn't gonna be covered for my visit. They apologized profusely but none of those apologies really matter because my time was wasted. I verbalized that it would have been nice if they gave me a call or notice before my appointment. The gal said they usually do but in my case there wasn't a follow up. Anyhow, won't be back. Kinda upset since I had a really good experience with my last appointment. Now I have to sit in traffic for another 40+ for nothing. read more

I find that for a practice that stocks high-end products, the staff, including the OD, look unprofessional. The OD wasn't wearing a name tag or a lab coat, so she was unidentifiable when compared to the receptionist, who also lacked identification. Both were unprofessionally dressed- sleeveless dresses and skimpy sandals. My visit wasn't pre-authorized, so I had to wait for the receptionist to call to find out my eligibility for frames. The cheapest product in house was $125 for frames alone. While the exam was satisfactory and timely, the OD was all over, helping another patient with frames while the receptionist was making her phone call. I understand efficiency, but the dynamic role changing is confusing. Also, the receptionist was scolding me for not having my glasses in a glasses case! The staff gave honest feedback on every frame I tried, and they were truly interested in helping me find the right pair for my face and style. My experience here was horrendous. The glasses are poor in quality and the staff are hostile, unreasonable, and threatening. Don't be fooled - small businesses can be duplicitous too. I paid $592 out of pocket (in addition to the $225 charged to my insurance) for glasses, expecting a superior level of quality. This place bills itself as top-tier - a luxury glasses retailer. Unfortunately the glasses are absolutely shoddy. Most frame brands are obscure and unrecognizable, yet cost around $300. The experience of ordering the glasses was acceptable. The staff member was helpful but seemed to pressure me to commit on the spot. I believed I was ordering an extremely high quality pair - one I could use for years and that would help my face look great. When I received the glasses, the results were disappointing. I tried them on for a few hours but knew pretty quickly that they wouldn't work for me. Not long after I received the glasses, I lost my job. I returned to the store, with the goal of returning them and sparing us both the back and forth negotiation that would probably not result in a satisfactory outcome. I could no longer afford glasses as expensive as these, particularly given their poor quality. First, the frames. They had appeared complementary to my facial structure when I tried them on in the store. With prescription lenses, they magnified my face, producing an unacceptable level of distortion. This is particularly disappointing for 1.74 ultra high index lenses that were priced at an extreme premium. The lenses are simultaneously subpar and exorbitantly priced. I paid $169 for an anti-reflexive coating that the staff member billed as being extremely effective. In reality, it was less effective than the coating on the lenses I ordered at Costco for under $200 (for the entire lenses). When I conveyed this concern to a staff member, she was unwilling to acknowledge the serious quality problem, and claimed that the coating was in fact more effective. This was false from my direct observation. Glare was more intense on the front of the lenses when I looked at a light in a bathroom mirror. The staff member offered to send the lenses back to the lab for them to investigate, a non sequitur given that the anti-reflective coating was clearly ineffective. Investigation could not change this fact. I explained my dissatisfaction with the lenses first, when the problem was really the frames. The lens problem was more tangible and would be more likely to result in a tangible positive outcome. The staff member seized upon this fact to discredit my story, pointing out that I had not mentioned the frames previously. This is true. She also claimed that I had spent an excessive amount of time debating with her. I contest that notion. I will spend as much time as necessary to receive the product I was promised and refuse to be manipulated. In retrospect, I should have been forthcoming about the real problem. That would have helped the situation. I found the staff member's tone rude. She repeatedly interrupted me when I was expressing my concerns, and near the end she proceeded to lecture me on how I should have explained my problem to her. This was offensive; I am an adult and can act as I see fit. Unwilling to refund the glasses and frustrated with me, the staff member threatened to call security twice. That's an unfair way to deal with customers. Most respectable business owners will try to reach a reasonable conclusion, but this one resorted to scare tactics. This was one of the few times I've felt scared to do business with someone. This store has a duplicitous return "policy." They place a statement at the bottom of the receipt stating that no returns on special orders are allowed. The lack of a clear return policy provided in writing should have been the first red flag; whenever a business makes a phrase unreasonably vague they count on their ability to dictate the interpretation of said phrase. What I ordered was not special. It was a standard order, carried out in the normal course of their business. I did not order anything unusual. A majority of their business is prescription glasses. By definition, if something is a majority it is not special. She played the "I need to pay my employees" card. Interesting dodge. I made a compromise offer - refund me the $169 for the defective coating and we'll call it good. Even this she refused. A few days later, I found out that the lab was unwilling to make any alterations. No reexamination of the faulty coating. No placing the lenses in new frames. I'm on my own with $592 glasses I won't wear and don't work properly. I am disgusted with this establishment's unprofessional service, unreasonable pricing, and poor quality products. I thought people in my hometown were better than this. It's reprehensible when a business uses "all sales final" to peddle shoddy goods. Eyes on the Landing represents the extreme of irresponsible and greedy business. Don't trust it read more

Dr. Lawson not only corrected my awful contact prescription, she recommended a way for me to save on buying my supply. I am extremely happy with her recommended brand and strength. She has excellent rapport with patients, and the staff in general is very courteous and professional. For my eyeglass prescription, they literally tried every frame in the store until we found a pair that would fit my fat head and still look good. I would recommend them to anyone hands-down. The staff are so well educated in insurance, lenses and frames, its refreshing! They are a family owned boutique and have beautiful and unique frames. Many of the reviews claim that the frames are too expensive, but you have to pay for quality. These are not frames you can find anywhere, they are meant to last a while and make a statement. I highly recommend this place for the most important thing to me...customer service. Everything was top rate. This is coming from someone who started wearing glasses at age 7 and am now in my 50's. Dr. gave me her honest recomendations and answered my questions. She referred me to a colleague whom she personally knew his philosophy of treatment. I was happy with the referral. Christian knows his stuff. He was very honest and knowledgable. When we got down to several frames, he called in Dr. and another coworker. They were very honest about what worked best on me. I have had nothing but compliments since I got my frames. They are very comfortable. Although I have moved from the area I am going to travel back to Renton-I am serious-when I need an exam and more lenses. I work in the social service field and my expectations are high. I had an appointment scheduled for 5:00pm one evening. I called to say I would be a couple minutes late, which is more than most patients would do, and then arrived at 5:03pm. They had already taken the 5:30 appointment back and asked me to wait or offered for me to come back. I then looked around at their available frames and the prices are outrageous!! This family and business is amazing! Great customer service. Great products that are meant to last. I had a mishap with my glasses and the arm bent and the screws are such good quality they could adjust it back into position and they didn't break. Very good quality. They picked glasses for me I likely would have never picked on my own and I can't begin to tell you how many compliments I get everyday about my glasses. I got a great pair of perscription sunglasses as well that I love. My husband just went and got glasses and sunglasses. I recommend them to anyone looking for eye wear. I found a pair that I really liked and I was thinking it over (I mean, they're REALLLLLY expensive) and one of the staff members said I should think about it as an investment because the glasses are like a piece of art for the face. Stopped by to see if I could get a replacement for one on the temples of my glasses that had fallen off the frame and disappeared. As I approached their office, I realized that I had arrived at the clinic after closing. The team was in the process of leaving for the day, but they recognized me and unlocked the door, even though I hadn't called first. They checked their stock and found that they had same frame as mine in stock, so they disassembled it and used the temple of that frame to repair mine rather than making me wait while they ordered a replacement part. I have been a customer for several years. Every person with whom I have worked at Eyes on the Landing has always provided exceptional service and guidance. In addition, they have always been helpful and patient when I have chosen frames... which for me is always the most challenging and time consuming part of the experience. Walked past and did a double-take, saw unusual frames I hadn't seen before in stores or online. Had to hurry on but came back a couple weeks later. Found help from Christian I'd been looking for and not found. New to Rx lenses, I had no idea how to shop for or think about glasses. He walked me through how to get the right size, style, shape, and color for my face size, shape, skin color, etc. After shopping 8 other shops, both chains and independent, I finally found a knowledgeable staff who could give intelligent and insightful information to help me find glasses to suit me.
