Great experience at Kent Eye Clinic! My first time going to a non-chain eye doctor in over a decade. My appointments here were prompt and the reminder texts are helpful. Staff are friendly and helpful. No issues with my insurance unlike my experiences at the other chain eye clinic I used to frequent. Chance, the fitment/eye technician (not sure on the real title), is super friendly and helpful. Taught me a lot about frames and types of lenses they offer. Dr. Yelgar was very knowledgeable and helped answer all my questions. Very professional. My initial worry was that a non-chain clinic might not have a lot of eye glasses frames to select but I was thankfully wrong. They had brands ranging from Nike, Oakley, the bendable frames, Dragon, etc. I think the prices are decent, I don't have much experience though. Around $219 for my Oakley frames before insurance kicked in. I'd highly recommend this clinic! Nice and welcoming. Doesn't feel like you're being a nuisance being there, unlike my old eye clinic chain (it was America's Best in Tukwila, bleh). read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience with this doctor's office so others are aware. The staff here is extremely unprofessional and rude. I received a notice claiming that I had "confirmed" an appointment, even though I never confirmed anything. I called the office to explain that I had been out of town and never received any text message. Instead of helping, the staff member hung up on me and spoke in a very disrespectful manner throughout the call. Unfortunately, this wasn't the only issue. My previous visits with the doctor were also disappointing. The doctor seemed rushed, inattentive, and not responsible in addressing my concerns. Overall, the entire clinic feels disorganized, unfriendly, and lacking basic professionalism. I was billed for an appointment I never confirmed. I went through their online portal but never completed the online form to set the appointment but billed me anyway. This is the kind of shady, unprofessional behavior that gives small businesses a bad reputation when they try to bill people for services they never agreed to. My wife and 3 children are current patients here but not anymore as of today. We will go somewhere else that doesn't engage in nefarious business practices like this garbage company. I have always had a Very good experience with Dr. Holfelt, till my last visit, seems he was not Happy with me, lectured me on how he gave up money to except Boeing Insurance. (Davis Vision) I was having trouble at the time with a tooth and just had a root canal and my face was swollen, so I guess it caused fluid behind my eyes, i wouldn't know for sure as he didn't even bother to check my eyes or explain why and how to fix this. He had his assistant give the eye exam. I just had Lasik in 2019, and now they are telling me I need glasses, he should have told me or talked to me about my options to go back to get my lasik fixed. so unprofessional, he couldn't even talk to me about why he was upset at me, I would have made it right and fixed the problem. I didn't see the gale who always helps me, she has worked for him for a while, I think he fired her over this, when he could have just called me and talked to me. I was just doing what she said, I did not twist her arm, only you would think I did. hurts my heart to think he may have just fired her, over something fixable. I don't plan on EVER going back to his clinic. I did pay for an exam that day and did NOT get that from him, I hope no one ever gets on his bad side. The staff is nice and everything, but waiting there over an hour just for the eye exam is unacceptable. Charged me extra $39 for digital imaging without telling me first. FYI, the digital imaging is not cover by the insurance. Glasses there are very expensive. Other places is cheaper, and has the same services. Will not go here again. read more

I hate to leave a bad review but I've just left Kent Eye Clinic very unhappy for a second time. I think Dr Hofeldt is great and have no issues with the eye exam, but PLEASE PLEASE do NOT buy glasses or contact lenses here. These people are not ethical and will seriously do anything they can to get another dollar out of you. Wendy helped me and was keeping a tally of what my glasses would cost, and wrote down a number just under $14, saying this would be how much I pay for my glasses. She kept asking me about other features, saying my insurance would cover XYZ so I should get it. Well, I ended up paying $130+ for the glasses and I had to make an appointment to pick them up, which is seriously just plain annoying in this day and age where you can get BETTER glasses online for CHEAPER and they are shipped straight to you. But it doesn't end there-- I was then charged an additional $25 because they claim they never charged my copay the first time. I guess they are trying to squeeze every dollar out of suckers like me before Zenni, Warby Parker, etc put them out of business for good. Pretty messed up way to treat people. I will never buy glasses in a store again. At least when you order online you know exactly what you will pay and you don't have someone lying to you for their own economic gain. I wanted to come back and add an update for another great experience with this clinic. I just picked up my glasses and absolutely love them!! Keith was super helpful in helping me today and helped me figure out how to order my contacts as well. Speaking of contacts, people saying that they're trying to scam you with their prices - no they're not. Prices are all over the place depending on the brand, and I did research before ordering them through Kent Eye Clinic so I knew what price to expect. They offered a discount for purchasing a year supply and also offered a manufacturer rebate. I am amazed at the steal I got on these contacts and have never found them for such a low price online. I don't remember the name of the woman who helped me on the phone but she was friendly and helped me get the best price. I am so happy to continue being a patient here! read more

Terrible place to go. The staff is so unprofessional. The doctor told me it's fine to drive with dilated eyes. Definitely do not recommend anyone do that. The team is terrible. They never answer the phone and when they do they are rude. Doctor said he would have notes for me for ENT doctor he had nothing ready. Not worth it. They use to be amazing 2 years ago. Had some issues with a pair of lenses and it took a while to finally get an answer from them that I wanted to hear regarding using MY warranty. I had to go above and beyond to get a response that I could go ahead and use it. They themselves don't really do that for their clients... not to mention the staff doesn't try to make the patient comfortable and heard. Overall not a fan but i did get help using my warranty after 8 months of insisting that my original lenses were faulty and super fragile. Ordered a pair of glasses (the new ones I would be getting from the warranty) on 2/27, I called back on 3/11 to follow up because it had been at least a week and a half and the original lenses are extremely uncomfortable. They said no they're not in, I understood and waited. 2 weeks pass I now have to call a second time on 3/25 to find out that my lenses had actually arrived. I asked why they didn't call me to let me know and they didn't have an answer, when I asked them when they arrived they told me on 3/11. I have been coming to Kent Eye Clinic for years and I have always enjoyed the doctors but in the past the staff was hit or miss. My most RECENT experience was amazing. The two new managers have done wonders for this clinic, and the staff is nothing short of amazing. Everyone was helpful, compassionate, friendly and very professional. The technician that took me back was on time and so sweet and understanding. She listened to me, and thoroughly addressed all of my concerns and questions. I can't speak to their optometrists, as I'm established with a different optometrist at a different office but I will say THIS is the spot I plan to go to to shop for new glasses. Wendy (optician) is an absolute pleasure to work with and her eye (lol) for tasteful and unique pieces is unmatched! I say this coming from a place of visiting 3-4 optometrist offices solely to find a pair of frames I like lol. This office definitely has a great selection and range of options to choose from! The only downside of this office is that they're a little understaffed (from what I was told) so it is extremely difficult to get ahold of them via calling / emailing / leaving voicemails, etc. Hopefully they are able to hire more folks soon because this spot is a gem! read more

**UPDATE** I forgot to talk about the scammy forms that they have. You'll get charged the $39 for an exam that's probably not real since it's not covered by insurance. This place really is fake and is only there to sell you glasses. The last time I went before this review, they told me I really needed to take the test bc my retinas were weak. Where's all the BS now, unless *gasp* they didn't really look at my eyes or lied to me the first time. It's really laughable how they call themselves a clinic. Watch out for these people. And the owners response is not helpful. Why would you allow your online appointments to be set in 30 minutes increments if you cannot accommodate that time frame. Unless you are overbooking to hold your customers hostage. ---- They need better time management skills. The nurse and the doctor were great and quick. That's the only reason for it not being a complete zero star rating, if yelp even allowed it. I get there 15 minutes before my appointment to fill out my paperwork and I finished before my appointment slot. Then it was 10 minutes after my actual appointment time that I was called. Which was fine, it happens. The nurse who did all my pre-exam stuff was great and nice. But the fact that I had to wait 20+ minutes for a 10 minute exam was kind of ridiculous. I spent an hour there for only 20 minutes of actual exam related work. I 100% don't recommend this place to anyone who actually values any of their time. To be honest I would have been fine if the allotted time slot for these types of exams said 1 hour but on their online appointment schedules it says 30 minutes. Maybe list 1 hour if you know that time management is not your forte. read more

I have gone for treatment at this clinic for three years. Had no problem. Close to home. Friendly service. I have not changed any of my medical insurance for over five years. Today I walked in and was greeted by some gentlemen who works there named Chance, who must represent Big Brother and the Holding Company, because he specializes in double speak. "We accept your vision insurance, but not your medical insurance so you'll not be covered medically." What? I asked if I could get my eyes examined, and he replied yes, but I would be paying out of pocket. But, my eye insurance is covered? But not your medical. What double speak is this? I have spoken to people in foreign tongues that I don't understand, who makes more sense than this yahoo. Trust me, Chance, I am taking a chance on another eye clinic. I would to if I were you. I had an eye infection and needed to get in quickly and was offered a spot the same day. Everyone is very friendly and respectful. I enjoy coming here because the place feels very cozy and looks very clean. Both the staff and Doctors are kind and respectful. I highly recommend this place because of their great customer service. Note: There are forms that allow you to have retina scan. I found it quite useful and worth the extra cost. I appreciate my doctor's concern and find it very helpful. After he does the scan he uses them to inform patients more about their eyes as a preventative measure. I understand the pandemic delay and miscommunication happens sometimes. The wrong order was more than miscommunication, the left contact lenses ordered was wrong prescription and wrong brand (asphere instead of toric) which was not any of the brand I have been prescribed or used as trials to try in the last 3 years I have gone to this clinic. Thank goodness, I kept the empty sample trial boxes to ensure that prescription is filled correctly. I pay almost $600 for these contact lenses with vision insurance due to my poor vision, so I want to make sure they are ordered correctly to help my vision rather than make it worse. When asked for a copy of the contact lenses prescription, I also discovered that the right contact lenses prescription base curve (BC) was written wrong when I compared to the empty trial boxes I kept. I asked to get corrected and it took 10 days to receive a copy of the contact lenses prescriptions (left and right eyes) and received them on 5/21 with still incorrect base curve (BC) of 8.7 instead of 8.6 (based on trial boxes). I have asked the BC corrected in person on 5/11. I hope this review will get the attention to correct the BC on the written prescription that I requested to be sent via email. 5/23/2020 update on 4/27 order: -Correct right contact lenses received 5/19/20 -Left contact lenses and additional trials (been promised to be provided) have not been received - causing a lot of inconvenience since I could not use any of the right without the left contact lenses -Contact Lenses Prescription has not been corrected yet for the BC -Invoice for almost $600 has been received with a note indicating that bill must be paid within 60 days from the last visit or 2.5% finance charges will be assessed. If this was an automated process, perhaps it should have been held off as the left contact lenses have been delayed quite a bit due to errors and pandemic. I was also told that bill needs to be paid immediately as soon as the contact lenses arrived. Really? This has been an unfortunate experience and I am hopeful that my left contact lenses (or trials) will arrive soon and prescription is corrected as I am not able to function effectively due to very poor vision (told Clinic that eye glasses prescription is old and does not work well with my vision from the initial visit back in February and in April). Upon arrival of the correct lenses, I will make sure that invoice is paid immediately so I am not charge 2.5% finance charges-:( Keep the sample trial boxes for future reference, order contact lenses very early and pay your bills promptly to avoid 2.5% finance charges. TL;DR They didn't respond to voicemails, emails, or text messages over several months - I had to go into the store to talk to anyone. The optometrist was rude. Their record keeping is atrocious. Managmenet never acknowledged the months-long problems, never apologized, and didn't support or back up the staff. In February, I went in for an exam and new progressive lens glasses. I've had glasses since I was 10 and this was my 3rd set of progressive lenses. The staff seemed distracted, and the optometrist rushed the exam. It took more than a month for the glasses to come in, and the prescription was wrong. The person I worked with used static "overlay" lenses to help figure out what the new prescription should be. I was told to keep the "bad" ones because the "up close" worked well, and I would use my old glasses for distance (basically driving.) I was also told they would cover the cost of new lenses and frames. In April I started to call to see when the new glasses would come in. No one called me back. I left 5 messages and sent 2 emails through their website over 3 weeks. No response. I finally went there and was told that I already received my glasses and they don't have any other information. I explained what happened and I was told the person who worked with me originally would have to look into it and call me back. In the end, it turned out she forgot to order the new lenses, but she waited several days to call me because she was afraid of my response. I blame her boss and the management for not supporting her in this sticky situation. I later figured out from comments others made that they ignored all my messages because their computer said I'd received my glasses. They asked me to come back to see what was wrong with my new glasses, even though I'd already had that discussion. When I got there, it was clear no one knew what I was talking about, and after explaining - again - I asked for a new exam since I no longer trusted the hasty process from before. They were reluctant to give me one in spite of a "guarantee" I'd seen, and the optometrist, when I finally got the new exam, was very abrupt, wouldn't explain when I asked questions, and acted like he was doing me a huge favor. He also insisted that I may have something called Dry Eye and I should make another appointment for an exam specifically for that. I asked what that exam would entail - basically, what are you looking for to confirm that diagnosis - and he said "they look at your eyes and see if there are signs of Dry Eye." I did not make an appointment. I again waited 4 weeks for the new lenses to arrive and didn't get a call. I started leaving voicemails again but finally dropped by to figure out what the problem was. I was kept waiting 15 minutes while the staff tried to figure out what happened - their records didn't have any indication. Finally, they told me the person who ordered the new glasses had used some override codes, and I needed to talk to them. Since that person was coming in the next day I requested a phone call from them. No call. I left another message. No call for a few more days. Finally I got a call saying they'd arrive in another 2 weeks. No explanation about the delay. The staff person apologized over and over, but I never heard from a manager, and the staff person was clearly terrified that I'd yell at her. I called again in 2 week and got an appointment to be fitted a week later. I was treated as though this was my first time ordering glasses from them - they looked up my insurance, told me my deductible, asked if I knew what frames I wanted or if we should look around....the whole thing. I spent some more time explaining what happened (from the beginning), and the person helping me said, "none of this is in the notes," and started typing. I finally got to the part where they said they were going to cover the cost of the new exam and new lenses. The person looked shocked and went into another room for about 10 minutes. After that, he came back and said they would put the lenses in the frames I'd been given before, but it would be a few more days. I gave him the glasses and went home using my old glasses. More voicemails. Finally, a call back to come in for the final fitting. I went in February originally and finally got new glasses with the correct prescription in May. My impression is that the office staff are overworked and unsupported. They are extremely busy, and I can tell that it's not a happy place to work. Instead, i was told an hour before my visit "I could pay out of pocket since (they) couldn't verify my insurance." I cancelled the appt, they were inept about insurance. I had a great experience with Dr. Huynh and the process went very smoothly. She explained lots of things! I had a few complications with the website not taking my appointment but that could've been a user error. It was easy enough to call and schedule an appointment on the spot. It was quite busy in the office that day but the facility too measures to social distance and wear masks, etc. The glasses selection had a lot of premium and name brand glasses and some affordable ones as well. I went to this clinic for an appointment. The Manager is a flat out liar. My glasses never came in after waiting 2 months, and then I also heard many other customers complaining about their contact lens orders. The opticians here are only apprentices, they are not certified opticians. And to make things worse they have a high turn over rate with staff, everytime I come there its, a new crew of staff. Customers are not their priority the type of private insurance you have is. Based off of if you pay out of pocket insurance, or if you have state insurance is how you will get a faster appointment. This is a money hungry eye clinic. Everything is done in house, your billing, your referrals, and your repairs. I have never seen such shabby practices in all my 83 years. Dr. Hofeldt was professional and personable, and I had a pleasant experience with the eye exams. Where it was very disappointing was the craftsmanship of the eyeglasses. I came in with my own frame for lens replacement. It was a slim profile frame and my previous lenses were cut expertly to fit the slender profile (done by someone else). When I finally got my new lenses in the frame, I was more than disappointed. I had high index lenses as I required high power. However it seemed as if I didn't. The lenses stuck out past the frame, and looked unsightly from the profile. I would have not gone to this clinic had it not been the only place open during COVID-19 lock-down and I was desperately needing eyeglasses. The place appeared professional and well presented, with many stylish frames on display, so I had high hope they would know what they were doing with expensive eyeglasses frames. Boy was I wrong. I took my older daughter to this clinic for eye exam last year and it was a pleasant experience. So I decided to have her keep seeing Dr. Kurt Hofeldt this year, and also take my younger daughter and my mom to see Dr. Sean Thoreby as Dr. Hofeldt is not accepting new patient anymore. I submitted three appointment requests online, but I only got one confirmation email back. I called the clinic the next day to follow up on the other two appointment requests. I told Ana the receptionist about the issue and she immediately told me that she was all by herself in the office last night and might not have got to all the online requests. Ana offered to help me through the phone to set up the other two appointments which I appreciated, but then things go downhill from there. The communication basically broke down, as I had to repeat myself over and over again for her to get the correct information (the spelling of the names, date of birth, appointment time and date). Then I couldn't get the time that I requested online as Ana said those are not available, so I was hoping to find out if it is because that slots were taken when I requested them online. Unfortunately, she wouldn't let me finish and keep interrupting me during the conversation. At last she claimed that she never received my online requests and my info are not on the system. I didn't want to continue this unproductive conversation anymore, so I told Ana that I would call back when she is less busy and have a more positive attitude. Dr. Hodelft is an excellent eye doctor but I'm not sure if I want to go back again if I have to deal with such unprofessionalism each time I need to set up an appointment. read more

My family and I have been visiting this clinic for over 20 yrs (used to be Benson Eye clinic). The doctors are great but their recent front desk staff are horrible at their Jobs! I called last week to make an appointment. They told me to wait and after 10mins hung up the phone. I tried calling them multiple times and they would not answer. I even left several voice mails asking them to call back but still no response. My wife tried calling today and no answer. She left a voicemail and still no response. They need to fix their front desk staffing issues ASAP or I will go to a different clinic. We have big community here in Kent/Renton area and I'd ask everyone to do the same. It's such a shame. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with in my life! I contacted them in August regarding my glasses and a warranty. I took the day off of work to go down there just to find out that there's nothing they can do for me because the computer system was down. Can I call them to let them know that the actual lens holder had came off the frame and they argued me down about it being crushed. But prior to them telling me that they were crash they had already told me that the frames were ordered and that they were already there at the place so now here I am bringing in my old frames to get them replaced they don't even have the frames that I'm looking for work so now I'm left without glasses. By far the worst experience I have ever had. It took almost three weeks to get my trials in because they originally forgot to order it. Their excuse was that the power went out the day I got my exam. Then why not order them the next day or the day after? You had two weeks to order them. If I didn't call to get an update then they would have never ordered them. This tells me that they are very unorganized and their booking keeping is horrible. The amount of times I called them in a span of a month is ridiculous. I had to go in twice to get answers. Their excuse was "it's just me here" yet both times i've gone in, it was not busy. This entire experience just felt messy. Also, BEWARE that they will over charge you for contacts.
