I have been a patient of Dr. Marlan Anderson for years and used to see him at the De Zavala location. For a short time, he was at the San Pedro location and then moved out to the Vineyard-Blanco location. After he moved locations, i remained at the San Pedro location for ease, and have been seen by Dr. Edward Elder. Henry in the shop takes PERSONAL pride in engaging with customers and it shows. He is personable, friendly and always willing to work with you. They take insurance and I have been a pay out of pocket customer for quite some time. I will go out of my way to see them vs any other optometrist or optometry store. Most recently I self injured my right eye and when I called for an appointment, I was seen the same day. They go above and beyond with customer service and satisfaction. While I have on occasion sought out an eye exam with other providers, I find myself always returning here. (PS. ALL optical shops charge an arm and a leg for prescription eyeglasses, it's simply a fact of life.) However, Henry and his crew knows that I order my glasses online as I like to swap out glasses often and never hesitate to provide me with my prescription and all the numbers I need in order to purchase my glasses online. read more

Had a wonderful experience at my annual eye exam today! Linda at the front desk helped me with my new vision insurance when I was having issues. I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Elder, who was kind and quick, but not in a rushing way. He also made sure I was 100% comfortable with my prescription and gave me a trial pair while I wait for my monthly's to come in. My favorite interaction would have to be with Henry, the general manager. He lead me through my exam with such ease and hospitality that I felt like part of the EyeTx family. Great place! I would highly recommend this office for anything vision related. The staff has always been so nice. I've been coming here for years and NEVER has any issues. The doctors are very professional and that's one of the main reasons I've always come back. If you write a review and complain about something, it was definitely YOU, NOT the EyeTX staff. I have been contemplating posting this, but after four visits and 3 1/2 to 4 months to EyeTec, I have had enough. I have a serious eye condition called "Keratoconus," and it requires hard lenses called "Scleral" lenses. These lenses require a certain type of plunger- one to put the lenses in, and the other to take them out. From the first visit, I should have known that they were not equipped to service my needs. In the past when I went for an eye exam, I was put on at least eight different machines, which all serve a different purpose. The first examination was brief with only two machines for my prescription and fitting for the Scleral contact lenses. The first time I went to pick up my contact lenses, they just handed them to me. This type of contact lens was called "trial lenses" because the fit needs to be perfect. Those familiar with this type of disease know they must schedule a follow-up appointment within a week to make sure that the lenses are fitted and working properly. I waited a few minutes for my follow-up appointment and the gentleman (customer-service rep) asked if I needed anything else I said "Yes- my follow-up appointment." He said, "No you're good." Clearly, they've never dealt with these types of lenses because he continued with "If they don't work out just call us to schedule another appointment." After informing him that I needed a follow-up appointment, he reluctantly scheduled me for one. Usually, you get a starter kit pack for this type of lens which consists of 2 different plungers - one to put the contact on and the other to take it off. When I asked if they had any they said that they were out, but they were ordering some and should have them by the next visit. The second set of contact lenses did not work out. They were scratching my eye I had to take them off immediately. When I went to my follow-up appointment it was the same routine. They did another eye exam for a new prescription (Why? Nothing will change within 3 weeks). Once again, they put me on two machines and consulted with the company where they got their contact lenses from and ordered me another set. Weeks later I got a call that my contact lenses were in, and I went to pick them up. Again, I asked if they had received the plungers and he said no that they were on backorder. The third set of lenses did not work either. The fitting was wedged, and I could feel the contact lenses when I blinked. This time I brought the measurements and prescription of my last set of good lenses to give him an idea of what he was supposed to be doing- hoping this would work. I also asked him- respectfully- if he worked with many Keratoconus patients, and he replied, "Yes around 3 or 4 a month." That should have been a big red flag that he was lying because this condition is very uncommon. Once again, he did an eye examination for a new prescription and was pleased that he got me a 20/15 vision (again nothing has changed within 3 weeks). I was put on the same two machines and again he consulted with the company where he got his lenses from and ordered me a new set. Again, I asked for the plungers and again I was told that they were on backorder. The fourth set of lenses came in. We scheduled a follow-up appointment. Those did not work either. I called the office, and he asked me to bring in the measurements from the last time he would just copy them. However, it does not work that way with my disease. I went to my follow-up appointment but did not bring my other prescription/measurement. They did another eye exam for a new prescription (again, nothing will change for 3 weeks). Again, he put me on two machines, and consulted with the company where they got their contact lenses from. They asked me to bring my last prescription/measurement. At this point, I just turned in those lenses to them, and I called my insurance company and asked them to refer me to someone else who knew what they were doing. The reason I'm very upset is because I spent close to 3 months with someone who knew next to nothing about Keratoconus, and he didn't have the decency to admit that they were not equipped for Keratoconus patients. read more

Not bad overall, but for some odd reason prescription glasses always seem to take much longer to arrive if you order them through EyeTx after your exam. Twice on two separate occasions I was told it would take two weeks tops for Oakley frames with prescription lenses; ended up being three or more weeks both times. Everywhere else I've gone it's been two weeks or less, same brand frames. I'm a very patient dude, but they pushed it to the limit. I am happy with the glasses though, so. read more

Update: i was contacted and told yhat they are going to homor my $ 10 copay they issued a refund!! I knew it was time for an eye appointment when I began having trouble seeing with my current glasses. I made the appointment online. When I checked in, the young lady asked me, "Are you here for your annual exam?" Yes, I am. The appointment time was 11:30. I walked in at 11:16. After screening, the eye doctor came in after 12:00. I go to check out, and my $10 eye exam is now $153! It seems I wasn't due until September. If I try to schedule an ANNUAL exam before it's due, why not a gentle reminder? I was supposed to take my daughter there for contacts. Guess I'll find another eye doctor!!!! read more

This place has been my eye doctor since I moved to San Antonio. The staff is really friendly and patient. The doctors are like-able and confident. It is a well oiled machine they have going here. My last visit I ran out of contacts and I needed more. They gave me temps until my appointment the next day - I was overdue. I was in and out in about 20 minutes and everything, although not covered by my insurance, was under $100 for a 6 month supply of contacts. The glasses section is like many other places, but it is good to see Gucci and Juicy Couture in the mix. At least they keep up with fashion because I sure don't. This place is horrible. Avoid at all cost. I have been going to EyeTx for many years and this past exam was by far the worst. The staff keeps you waiting because they are too busy gossiping. They do not know what they are doing and keep asking the same question and make the same mistake over and over again. They aren't quality people. They were hiring at the bottom of the barrel with this group. I only gave them 2 stars because Henry works there and he is the best. But the rest make this place awful. After years of going here I will be finding a new eye doctor. Honestly, if you want to see poor customer service at irs finest come here. In February, I had an appointment at Eyetx to order a new pair of prescribed sunglasses. It was such an awesome experience. They had a large variety to choose from. Cambria who was helping me with my selection between at least eight sunglasses that I loved, help me narrow it all down to one beautiful pair of sunglasses. She was patient kind and I never felt rushed. Then Henry did the fitting and measuring for my new sunglasses and he too was very patient and very helpful. In my years of having to wear prescription glasses and sunglasses, this was the very best experience! It was the best experience I have ever experienced. What stood out especially was the attention to detail, which therefore is so very important. Not to mention I received my glasses in record time. I have had my eyes examined here for the past 3 years. The staff is warm, friendly and sociable . Several doctors on their team have performed the exams and have been thorough and outstanding they have taken the time to explain the examination procedure and my options as far as contact lenses are concerned. Today, January 23rd 2015 I had developed a minor emergency with one of my contact lenses having adhered to my left eye I called the office at 8:30 in the morning was told to come in and I arrived at 9:25 a.m. After walking in an explaining at the desk what was the issue the eye specialist immediately took me to the contact room and conducted a valuation of my eye to determine if the contract was still inside . Unable to ascertain if the contact lens was still inside my eye he promptly rushed me to the exam room where in under 4 minutes the doctor conducted a microscope evaluation and rectified the issue. This is why I will continue using Eyetx Vision Center as my primary care provider for my eyes and my family eyes. read more

I usually go to the Blanco road location. I had to pick up here because they were just replacing my lenses. They make and cut the lenses at this location. They were very friendly and the lady seemed to know what my situation was. She had talked with my rep from the other store. So, I liked that there was communication and that they were expecting me. They even called me to let me know when my lenses were finished. The wait time was excellent. They quoted 45 min, I was out of there in less than 30 minutes. Had an amazing experience at this office today. They were able to correct a poor prescription that I was given and now with what they gave me, I can see SO much better! The office staff was incredibly kind and helpful, they answered my questions and helped sort out a weird insurance issue I was having. I had zero wait time and they kept me informed the entire time about what was going on. They even gave me several free bottles of an expensive contact solution that I use just as a nice gesture. The doctor was extremely helpful in explaining everything to me (the brand of contacts I was in don't come in the correct prescription, that's why it's been blurry, getting me in updated prescription with new brand, etc.) and answering all of my questions. He encouraged me to keep coming back as many times as I need if the prescription is off. He answered my questions about my astigmatism, potential for Lasik, and how my vision will continue to change as I age. Super helpful staff, clean office, no wait time at all. Our family saw this group several times. We pay out of pocket and so I told them that with my Eye Pressure condition that I didn't need all of the tests done since I go to see an Ophthalmologist biyearly who also performs the same tests. They agreed so I didn't do the tests but they tried to charge me for it anyways. Twice now they've insisted that their contacts are the cheapest and that if I find them cheaper to call in, let them know and they will price match but when I do find them elsewhere for half the cost, they blow me off. Today I went in for my annual eye exam and was quite impressed with all the friendly staff. Dr. Elder is my doctor who I highly recommend. He is very friendly, caring, and thorough. If your old glasses or contacts are still good he isn't pushy for you to get a new pair--very honest. Henry helped me pick out an eyeglass frame. I usually dread picking out frames because I get overwhelmed with all the choices and not sure what looks best. Henry never left my side and helped narrow the choices down to three. No problem! Worst place to have your eye exam done. The only reason I came to this location because of Sat. Hours. The doctor is fine but the staff is horrible. Time management is horrible. I had an appointment yet I had to wait forever. They charged me for contact fitting exam but never did the exam. Just handed me contact sample to try on for a week if I like them then I can order them. For glasses, the guy did not even take the measurement. I told him that the glasses seems not leveled. The guy said it will be fixed. He didn't do the measurement or anything. And now my glasses came in 2 weeks. Longest time I waited for glasses. They are crooked. They look big on my face. While working at eye doc, the guy should have some kind of experience to let you know what shape and kind of glasses will look good. Instead he lied to me that they look fine but they dont. I even told him they look wide and crooked he said no they look fine its probably thats how you looking at them. Should have never gone with his words. Now I am debating with them to give me my money back. I hate that I had to waste my time here. This review is specific to the San pedro location; the doctors were wonderful and I hate to write this review whenever the doctors were so great, however the staff was terrible and unfortunately when going for an eye exam these are the people your interact with 90% of the time. Throughout my initial visit there was a new woman in training, the existing woman that was supposed to be training her was scolding her the entire time. The appointment lasted much longer than it should have. I decided to blow this off as I considered maybe they were just having an off day. About a month later I called to place an order for additional contacts. They had told me they had ordered them and they would give me a call when they were ready which would be about a week. I received no call so I reached out to the office the following week. The office stated that they never placed the order because payment was not received, I was never aware payment was going to be due prior. Still giving this office the benefit of the doubt , I went into the office that day and paid. I was told that my Contacts shipment would arrive the following week and I would receive a call when they were ready. I was to receive a call by Monday, which I did not, so I followed up Friday. I called the office prior (because of how they have been in the past I didn't want to waste a trip). Again, not to my surprise, they were confused and didn't know if the order had ever been in placed for my contacts. I then prompted to call another location to see if they had contacts readily available. They did not have contacts really available but the man was extremely helpful he actually reached out to the nurse who told me she could not find my contact order and helped her find it. This afternoon I went in to pick up my contacts, and again they could not find my contact order. It took about 15 minutes of digging and multiple members of the staff (3+) to actually find the contacts that were back ordered over two weeks. I am never going back to this location. The San Pedro staff is not enjoyable, is not friendly, and is incompetent. I do like EyeTX, so next time I will take my business to the dezavala location where the staff seems to be very helpful. read more

The staff and optometrists were friendly, but over the last couple years I experienced several mistakes. Last month, I lost ~$250 when the reading glasses I ordered had the wrong prescriptions twice, so I returned them and the third pair gave me severe headaches. I wanted a refund but they said I couldn't get a refund because too much time had elapsed although the reason so much time had gone by was because they kept screwing up! ...Also, compared to some other places it seem to take a long time to get glasses.
