Shalom is the best! I have received two treatments of dry needling and cupping so far and this is the first time in years the muscles in my neck and back don't feel like rock-hard lumps, and are finally starting to soften and heal. I came into Shalom's practice with tension headaches and knots that were so tight I couldn't move and had daily pain. I had sought care previously from MDs, PTs, massage therapists, and several other kinds of therapists, mental and physical. Nothing seemed to have long term effects- until Shalom. I cannot recommend Shalom and his practice enough! After the first treatment, I felt a little more mobile and could start moving more, had a less tension. After the second treatment, my problem areas are significantly softer, the knots are melting away, and I'm starting to have hope that I can heal these knots and live without chronic pain. I've never been to an acupuncturist before, but I will start going now! Eyton was amazing! The consultation started out with an intake of all my pain points. He did a full assessment before recommending what treatment options I should be doing. I've been dealing with pain along the right side of my upper back, shoulder, and rotator. He recommended dry needling and acupuncture. The treatment isn't painful at all. It might just feel weird. The entire treatment with the intake took about 90 minutes. Depending on your body, you may be sore the next day after the treatment, but that soreness dissipates after day 2 or 3. I've been getting deep tissue / Thai massages to work out my knots, and although very relaxing, they never really addressed the pain I had. My knots have probably been built up for 15+ years from bad posture, ergonomics, lifting weights, and playing basketball (i'm right hand dominate). This is just my assumption of where the pain came from though.. So get this... a couple hours after the dry needling and acupuncture treatment.. my shoulder and back pain had gone down significantly! A knot that had been lingering on my upper back had gone down significantly and I don't even notice it there anymore. My mobility on my right side has drastically improved WITHOUT pain. Was in San Diego recently with my girlfriend And we both went into see Dr. shalom. I have chronic right shoulder pain from an old baseball injury , i used to pitch a lot, And then I went and made worse body surfing in Hawaii and landing badly on a shore break . . Every once in a while it flares up badly from sleeping on my side usually when it's in a bed that I'm not used to sleeping in. I also have a really bad low back from an old herniated disc And we stayed in a place in San Diego that had one of those memory foam mattresses and those really don't agree with my back, so I woke up with really bad sciatic pain and my back was really tight and spasms. luckily was able to get into see Mr. Salome for dry needling I wasn't sure if he was going to do dry needling or acupuncture but he said that for my injury dry needling was the right thing to do the Way to go and man I got to say I was all better within about an hour and a half of getting off his table . I had some recent health issues and he was very knowledgable using both needles and Chinese herbs as a way to solve them. I am a longtime client. In fact, more and more, Eyton Shalom is absolutely my first call for any problems with my health. This is despite the fact that my primary care physician has been voted as having one of the best medical practices in San Diego for several years in a row. Over the years, he has successfully treated me for all kinds of issues, such as: Muscle and joint problems (from both over-activity and inactivity). Lower back pain. Severe asthma and allergies. Colds and influenza. Chest pains. Mid-life (hormonal?) issues where I was hot-headed, irate and not myself. Whether you are skeptical of "non-western" medicine or you have had acupuncture before, you will learn things here. The experience is different and a bit more clinical than the new-age-tinged "spa-type" acupuncture that I had previously known (and probably most non-asians think of). Don't think that it is an impersonal environment though, as he can be quite chatty. I suspect in being so, he's trying to glean information about your energy/lifestyle (or flow of "Chi"). At the same time you can pick up some of his wisdom. He is a font of knowledge. Ask him questions ...or if you're feeling bold, challenge him! He'll delight in schooling you --usually with facts, citing clinical studies or statistics. Perhaps because I'm a (young-ish) dude and we have a bit of history, he may go for the medium to larger needles, (still thiner than a human hair) while trying to give me the best "bang for my buck" as he says. There are other times when I didn't even know he put a needle in. I've felt all kinds of strange sensations, at the site of the needle or in completely different parts of my body. Everything from waking visions to extremely warm, fuzzy feelings or even the movement of stagnant, cold liquid through my body. And OMG, moxibustion and cupping are the best part! Being somewhat of a music nerd, I must say he has the best selection of music, and he'll give you choices for the last part of treatment, in which I usually find myself lying there, seemingly floating through the void as strange bells intone. After treatment he usually recommends various teas and herbs to take (in capsule form). I'm quite experienced with the herb and health food scene and have found the herbs and teas that he has on hand to be really top-rate. Nearly without exception I choose the teas and capsules he has, as opposed to the ones I am able to source at near-wholesale prices. I am definitely under the assumption he researches and sources the absolute best that he can find. I've never asked him about this, but it certainly seems like it. I'll then limp home and am totally wiped out the next day. He will usually recommend taking off work the next day. Very often I will get dramatic results (if not immediately after the treatment) within 24 hours. I hands down get better results than going to a conventional "western" doctor --and I get more insight into the actual cause of the problem, too. There have been one or two times I've needed more than one treatment (over the course of weeks) but he emphasizes that health is an on-going process and not always an overnight cure, although sometimes it feels like it. read more

I've long been impressed and fascinated by both Ayurveda and TCM. They both contain incredible depth and wisdom, and you can spend decades studying them. I love that someone local has really delved into both, and attained a working knowledge of how to apply both synergistically in their patient's life. I love this guy. He is educated, knowledgeable familiar with both Eastern and Western medicine, fun and interesting to talk to, and most critical of all, was able to help heal my problem: a painful, stiff neck that had been unhealed for over 7 weeks (from a headstand in yoga). I was very concerned that I'd have to go to a "regular" doctor and get x-rays, cortisone injections, maybe surgery... After realizing a beach area community acupuncture clinic (and a chiropractor who struck me as a quack) did not inspire confidence or provide real relief for what I thought was a "pinched nerve" - I realized I needed someone with a more in-depth and experienced approach. I found Eyton. While he was many times the cost of the (very inexpensive) community acupuncture clinic, he was worth it: he educated me about what was likely happening in my neck, and helped heal the problem with his very precisely targeted needles. There's no point in saving money if your reason for going isn't addressed. He was also convenient to where I live, being just south of Balboa Park area. As a bonus, he has an interest in herbs and can recommend various teas, herbs and herbal supplements. He also talks with you, gets to know you, and looks at the whole picture, whereas the other clinic just had me fill out a form and chatted with me for about 5 minutes. A few years back I had a weird affliction. My tongue was swollen for no apparent reason, for two weeks. I went to an allergist, a dentist, a dermatologist and my regular doctor and no one could figure out why my dang tongue was swollen. My sister, a regular patient of Eyton, recommended I check him out. Never having tried acupuncture before and already sick of trying to figure out what was wrong with my tongue, I was wary but went ahead and made an appointment with him. I have been plagued with what I thought were allergies/sinus infections for almost 2 years, which gives me constant congestion and vertigo, which I recently found out may actually be silent migraines mimicking sinus symptoms? Based on the last year that has plagued me with sinus infections and bronchitis and painful back problems. I no longer take antibiotics for one and muscle relaxers for the other. There was a lot of talking (well over an hour) where he took some notes, the second visit he couldn't find the notes and I had to go over most of what we already talked about. I've been struggling with eczema my whole life. This year I had the worst flare up ever. It was everywhere and anything I ate, touched, even breathed seemed to make it worse! I tried every type of ointment, cream, prescription and pill to help with my flare up and went to see dermatologists and allergists to try to figure out what was wrong and how to control the eczema. Basically the answer I got from all of them is that they didn't know what caused it and really couldn't do anything to help me besides more prescribe stronger steroids. Finally, I decided to try alternative medicine because I remembered my mom taking me to see an herbalist once when I was younger. I really liked Eyton because #1 he spoke English! I live near L.A and driving to SD for acupuncture may seem silly to some. But I am so glad I did. Eyton has so much knowledge about how the body works. I am so impressed by the quality of his treatments and supplements. Eyton is warm, engaged, and professional. I was referred to him by a close friend who had sought treatments for a serious health problem with wonderful results, and have equally glowing things to say about his treatments for me. I have experienced severe menstrual pain and cramping to the point of missing work, being in too much pain to sleep, losing stabilizing muscle control to walk, etc. I had already cleared with my doctor that it was pain alone, no underlying diagnosable condition. My mother had similar (though worse) symptoms from when she was a teen up to her hysterectomy. After 1 treatment, I started to notice less pain and more functionality. After 3 or 4, I was pain-free. I still do experience slight discomfort, but not pain. It has been over 6 months since my last visit and I have had no returning symptoms. (I only went to 4 total, I think.) Eyton did recommend some Chinese medicine that turned out to interfere with the efficacy of my birth control pill. (Angelica sinesis - it's one to look out for.) I experienced some adverse symptoms from this, but nothing serious or long-lasting. I recently had some extreme back pain and leg pain which the doctor said was my sciatic nerve. Not having health insurance, and not wanting to take the shot in the spine that halts the pain, a friend who suffered from extreme migraines and hip pain, reccomended, Mr. Shalom to me. Never having been to an acupuncturist, I had my doubts. But after 2 treatments, I was able to sleep throughout the whole night and get back to work. He made me feel as comfortable as a man could feel lying naked on his table. He explained what every needle did and how it would alleviate my extreme pain. I am now a believer in Chinese medicine. As I'm an avid runner, I am also plagued by typical runner's woes: injured muscles, stiff joints, etc. I overcame most of those by switching to running barefoot, but one problem that persisted no matter what I did was a problem of muscle cramps, particularly in my calf. After my fourth treatment, something truly remarkable happened (at least, remarkable to me): the pain and tightness in my legs was simply gone. I had no idea how much my gait was being compromised by the tightness in my legs, but Eyton knew just what to do. I am genuinely astounded by how "fresh" my legs feel, and I've been really beating them up in training for an upcoming half-marathon.
