He advised me that he needed to install emergency disconnect which he didn't tell me and he wanted additional $400. He told me its the code requirement. I agreed. He replaced the electrical panel and installed the emergency disconnect. He gave the Certificate of Insurance for Mr. Ray Mechanical LLC. However, I found out the electric permit was issued to a different company. He work failed inspection because the emergency disconnect was not needed. He misunderstood the code. The town's inspector had to write down the code for him. Then, he had to add main breaker to the panel. I refused to pay the $400 which was for the unnecessary emergency disconnect. I had to spend two more half days to facilitate the revision of the panel work and coordinate town's re-inspection. Ramon, the owner of Mr. Ray Mechanical insists he has electrical license. He does not. Anyone wants to hire him to do electrical or any home improvement project should ask him to show his license.

Unfortunately, the work was performed poorly. The coils were crushed, and after the fan motor was replaced, the wires were left exposed. Their solution was simply to secure the wires along the fins of the top cover, leaving them vulnerable to damage from rain, sun, heat, cold, and snow. When I tried to pay, they would not accept a credit card--only cash or a check. Even more concerning, the technician asked me to make the check payable to him personally rather than to the company. they send me via email an invoice but did not specify the work, just the amount. The only positive aspect--and the reason I am giving them one star--is that they arrived within an hour of my call.

In the middle of executing my plan for a DYI project, I figured out that Home Depot and Lowes does not cut sheet metal for their customers. Yet, I still needed to acquire 2 13x25 inch panels of sheet metal. So, I let Yelp.com point me in the right direction to a business. On my second call, I found Karl at Duct Gauge Heating. He asked me about my aims for the project and I shared that I was hoping that the project wouldn't be too expensive. He was so helpful and knew the exact type of metal that would be magnetic. He offered to cut them from scraps within his shop and, realizing that I needed to pick up the pieces on Saturday, he shared he would leave them just outside his door for me. As planned on Saturday, I found them just outside that door. He delivered two perfectly sized pieces, and when I returned home, I discovered that the pieces fit the frames beautifully. He knows exactly how to "Measure twice & Cut once!" and he was more than fair about the cost to both his business and his customer! These are the makings of a good local business.
