The hush puppies and cole slaw are unbeatable. The catfish isn't always the star of the menu like I would expect. It can be hit or miss on ranging from Ok to great. I'm not sure if the cooks aren't consistent or the product itself. I still recommend this place and I will definitely return. What has happened to Ezells? This is my 1st couple places to return to when coming from out of town. The coleslaw was very bland and they got rid of the all you can eat catfish. This is one of those places that is a staple of home for me. I've lived in Columbus my whole life and I remember Ezell's was my first introduction to popcorn shrimp. I've been hooked ever since! Kiddos get the royal treatment at the end of every meal with a visit from a treasure trunk shaped like a shark and full of candy. The servers are always polite and attentive and the hush puppies and coleslaw with every meal are the best in town. As an adult, I'm a big fan of their broiled catfish, sweet potato fries, and seasonal vegetables. Again, this is just one of those places that leaves a lasting impression and is always tasty. Our family has eaten at Ezell's for years however will not any longer after being treated very poorly by the owner. There have been a lot of complaints about him and all are very possible given the way he treated our family. The food is pretty good and consistent when I have gone. The greeter can leave with something more to be desired. You have a to have a sense of humor when dealing with the host. Can come across as rude until you get that they are joking around (most of the time). I would recommend for catfish and their hush puppies. Wrong food for my wife and me! We ate with a group of 8. Greeted with the statement that seemed like a command, "Groups of 7 or more will have the gratuity added to the bill. Do ya'll agree?" Personnaly, I like to make my own decisions about stuff like that based on the service. Well, I must admit, the hushpuppies were excellent. Tried some fried green tomatoes and fried pickles. Both tasted like the same batter and full of grease. Moved on to an onion ring and only ate 1/2 of it. Ordered catfish fillet. I only ate 1/2 of one and had to stop. Loaded with grease. Son in law can pack it away. He pushed away from the table. Not very good. I was sick that night. Wife throwing up today. Took home a box. Got home and just threw it away. We have been going to Ezells for years. Last night we took out of state relatives because they love the catfish. When we placed our orders we were informed that the catfish plate only includes 2 catfish. I asked if we could get additional catfish if we paid extra. The waitress informed me that the only way to get extra fish was to order an additional catfish plate. I asked if she realized how ridiculous that was and she said that the manager made the rules and she just followed them. Also the hushpuppies which used to be wonderful were soggy with grease. We ate at Ezells today for lunch,service was good,but not the food. I got hamburger steak and baked potatoes, not good. Catfish isn't really my thing so it's hard for me to judge it, but their hush puppies- umm, yes. Friendly, homey atmosphere.

The food was ok. The table was a little sticky. I wasn't crazy about the cole slaw with dill pickles in it, but that's just not my preference. The catfish had a little different seasoning than I'm use to. I've had catfish at many places and none of them were seasoned like this. My last two visits the chicken fingers were not battered and tasted plain. I mentioned it to the cashier and manager and the manager said nothing had changed. I said I've been eating here for years definitely something has changed with your chicken fingers. Delicious fried catfish, endless hush puppies and slaw.

This place is absolutely fantastic. It's a little out of the way, but not overly so. Well worth the drive. Decor is very southern fishermen. Lots of mounted fish, deer, fish traps, fishing gear...etc. Very quaint and old fashioned. I loved it. As far as seating, this place is super popular for a reason. Plan on getting there before the dinner rush or both parking and seating may take a while. Their lot has minimal room and you can't park easily on the street next to it as they (the residents) often tow. Also it's a narrow lot and big vehicles are tricky to park there...just fair warning. Now the food...oh the food. If you love fish or just good old fashioned southern cooking you should be in heaven here. They have catfish cooked just about every way catfish can be cooked and it's all fantastic. Their other seafood is quite good also. I never tried the shrimp but others we brought here did and loved it. When you order they bring out a big old bowl of endless hush puppies that are to die for. They also bring out a big bowl of endless cole slaw that is pretty tasty too. They even have grits and other southern dishes that are good too. My brother tried the cheese grits and never having tried them before loved them. I'd say that if you're in town this is one of those places you need to go to. If I ever find myself there again, travelling through there, or near there I will go back. If you like fish this is a place that absolutely, positively should not be missed. I know I miss it... Ate there during the Senior State Tennis Tournament and the place was as good as advertised. None of the other reviews mentioned the onion rings. For $5.95, you got a HUGE plate of the best onion rings I have ever had the pleasure to eat! I also agree that the hush puppies are great and are served hot. For about thirty-three years Ezell's has been providing excellant southern catfish meals...to individuals, and to many in a crowd. Last night was no exception to the crowd count. Our family of sixteen and one half (had a young one with us) were quickly seated (no Reservations required)...comfortably...and immediately served Ezell's signature Hushpuppies and Slaw (some kind of good, too)...a fantastic waiter took our orders...we barely made it through our first bowls of slaw and puppies, and our meals arrived.....Folks, in all these yearts, Ezell's have not lost their touch....it was all fantastic. Well the first time I visited the establishment I thought the food was good. The first turn off was when the owner belittled his staff in front of us. I felt so sorry for the girl that he scolded in front of the entire place. I even asked her who that was and she told me it was the owner. Second visit was just my daughter and I and I came to the desk to put our name on the list and the owner said "how many?" I quickly replied "just my daughter and I" to which he replied "well that would make it two then, it's amazing what a high school education can do for some people"....needless to say I was completely shocked that he would talk to customers this way. I used to eat at Ezell's Catfish Cabin in Meridian, MS 30+ years ago, this location tasted the same. The only thing that I noticed that was different was that they didn't sell oysters. Whole fried catfish was outstanding. Onion rings were outstanding. Fresh collard greens were amazing! My wife enjoyed her fried shrimp and Cheese grits. After living in the Columbus area for 6 years, I finally made my way over to Ezell's - wow! Wish I didn't wait so long. Our order was to-go and was ready for us in less than 10 minutes. Hush puppies, collards, cheesy grits and coleslaw - all to die for! The fried catfish and fantail shrimp were hot and crispy not soggy.
