Great place, don't order Ribeye. Terrible cut, overcooked and still had to pay for this but they discounted it a little. The salad had brown wilted bits so I got charged an up charge for it and didn't touch it. Probably won't go back but I see why it's popular.

Overall the experience was extremely pleasant. We got there when it was packed and they said it was an hour wait, and it turned out to only be fifteen minutes. The drinks from the bar were really good. Our server was very attentive and always there when we needed him. The food was good and the pepper jelly was amazing. Only negatives were it was really tight inside and their waiting area is very small. Luckily they had a waiting area outside. The fried greenbeans really didn't have much flavor but it was only the thing lacking in flavor.

Excellent service , nice comfy location in the heart of downtown Columbus. The front desk servers were friendly and accommodating. We had the coolest service. The food came out hot and delicious. Portions were good as well.

Thank you yelp for recommending The Black Cow. We got in late last night for my son's "Turning Green" ceremony and this popped up. We got there late and it was super busy. They did take our phone number down so we could sit in the car which was nice cause it was cold. We all three tried different things. One ordered the crab cakes with fries and mac-n-cheese, one ordered artichoke chicken with mac and I ordered the Steakhouse Burger with pineapple casserole. Let me start off by saying that I'm picky about my pineapple casserole. My Mom made that every holiday and it is the best accompaniment to ham or turkey, but, always great as a dessert. This pineapple casserole had cheese in it which I'm not a fan of. I still ate it though, I just prefer no cheese. The burger was really good. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Our server was great. He was rocking it all evening cause they were packed. Excellent service.

This is a cool restaurant and bar. Service is very friendly and helpful. Drinks are good. We started with the fried bacon. The crust was crispy and delicious. It could have been cooked longer for crispy bacon. Salad was ok. The meatloaf sliders were fantastic. The sauce and caramelized onions were amazing. They have a great selection of food.

I stopped by to kill some time after running into the owner a week ago while out dining. She was such a sweetie so I just had to. What I didn't know is that they promote wine down Wednesdays. I tried the fried bacon and couldn't finish it. I packaged it up to take home and realized today that it can't be microwaved for too long (*sniffs lingering scent of burned deliciousness). I plan to return and will try an entree. There are several menu items I look forward to trying in the near future (on Wednesdays).

My son and I went here after his Tirning Blue graduation. I had grilled salmon and green beans because I have a serious wheat allergy and can't have the food crossed. It was delicious and the staff were very nice.

Amazing delicious food, Fantastic service from Pria at the bar. The place was like a barn style inside large and open with about 6 seats at the bar..

The Black Cow is a popular answer when you ask for a suggestion for a great meal that does not disappoint in Columbus. Always busy so plan on a wait if you go during busy meal time hours. The menu offers a nice selection of entrees, sides, and appetizers everyone rave about. We have gone to The Black Cow many times over the years since it has opened and have never been disappointed. We love to try different menu options each time. It's a great spot to bring an out of town guest or for a date night. A great gem in Columbus!

Bacon Pimento Cheeseburger* and French fries

This place was really good. We only had to wait 30 minutes on a Friday evening. Staff were very attentive. The burgers were good but our expectations were high because they were ranked best burger. Dare I say, I liked the appetizers better than the entrees. I definitely recommend the pimento cheese poppers (and we are not huge pimento cheese fans). The jelly is not too spicy and was a perfect addition to our meals. Only concern would be that the seating situation was a little weird. We were facing the people next to us. On top of this, they charge 3% for credit cards and $2 for shared plates (could do without that in my opinion). Overall, happy with our dinner!

I just recently did a pick up order at 'The Black Cow' and was sadly underwhelmed. I ordered 3 meals. The classic Cheeseburger, the Chicken and waffles with Mac and Cheese, and the fried pork chops with collard greens and Mac and cheese. Before discussing the food I want to address the pick up process. I went to pick up the food and was disregarded by staff. I approached the bar and attempted to pay and was brushed off and had to wait in favor of other customers. This was the erasure of their tip in real time. No eye contact, and placing payment on counter rather than hand. Very unfortunate. The food itself (please note it was a to-go order). The burger was good. Standard I ordered medium and it had a red center more of a rare but the flavor was there. Fries were nothing to rave over definitely from frozen. (Chicken and Waffles) The Chicken dry and could not spot a dash of seasoning. The bacon jam advertised was missing from the order completely, which possibly could have helped with flavor. Waffle was pretty standard no sweetness and no crisp but a good waffle. The Mac and cheese was the best item really cheesy and good texture on the noodles. Could use some salt and pepper but that's preference based. The fried pork chops were disappointing. The fried skin slid off and was saturated in the grease from onions and mushrooms. It was seasoned but the amount of grease left me feeling dipped in an oil drum. I think the idea of onions and mushrooms with no gravy as weird but could be executed way better. The greens were good, my first time having them with bacon bits but pork is pork. Mac again was the star. Portions are good also, great shell just missing some love and soul. Clean, industrial vibe.

The staff is super nice and friendly. Guys, you gotta try the meatloaf sliders and pimento cheeseburger! But especially the meatloaf. The BEST meatloaf I've EVER tasted! The look of the place is great. It looks modern and retro at the same time. The steak tacos are good too!

    Plenty of outdoor seating

Warm November evening so I ate outside. Service was quick and attentive. Good draft beer selection. The Steakhouse burger was delicious. I asked for medium and that's what I got. The restaurant is celebrating 15 years in business. You don't exist for that long unless you're doing something well. The Black Cow is a great part of the downtown Columbus scene.

I made a reservation a month or so in advance (though it may be possible to get a table closer to your target date than that). We arrived just before our 5:45 p.m. reservation. It was bitterly cold that day, so I dropped my wife off and searched for parking. My advice: there seemed to be more spaces available on 1st Avenue north of the restaurant. I circled around some other streets first and found nothing. The restaurant itself is a somewhat narrow but deep space in its building. When you enter, the first room has the bar on the left and tables on the right. There is a secondary smaller room towards the back which was where our table was. Our waiter showed up and got our drink orders. There was an extensive list of specials and drinks, which was fine. I don't think we opted for them, but it was nice that they had a changing variety of dishes. As this was our first time here, everything was a novelty. I had some wine; the pours were average. I think the entrees came with salads, which were good. For the main dish, I had to decide between lasagna, spaghetti, and a mushroom ravioli + steak option. I went with the latter, and was pleased. The steak was just 4 oz, but that's fine given the overall dish. It was cooked well and tasty. The ravioli were good as well. I did not manage to finish them, but enjoyed them for lunch the next day. My wife opted for a fish dish which she also liked. We did not want to overdo dinner with dessert as we had a performance to attend. Otherwise, I'd have checked that out. The last thing I'll comment on is the music selection. They were featuring "Spanish guitar" covers of pop songs, but the mix was pretty eclectic - it included Beatles, CCR, the Theme from Forrest Gump, etc. I enjoyed it quite a bit, to the point that I emailed them to ask about it. It definitely wasn't just a generic background music stream! We are planning to attend another performance in Columbus later in the Spring, and I have already made a reservation to return to Mabella's.

I felt like I was in the Bear (tv show) with the changing menu (we did pre-fix). We got a tour of the kitchen afterwards and got a glimpse of the whole operation as well as getting to see the special chef's table (seems like it'd be a cool experience and potentially worth the extra cost). I think what I enjoyed most here was the unique flavors and takes on traditional dishes. I loved the beat salad for example (so fresh and so clean as OutKast put it best) and with the mashed potato's that came with the short rib (so tender and flavorful as well), the mustard flavor and other ingredient that I don't typically like, only enhanced the dish for me. The potato soup was solid and very creamy. We also had the duck, which was tender, and delicious. I was glad to share dishes and "game the system." I had both the old fashioned and tried the old fashioned girl and both were good. I meant to get the smoky old fashioned because I saw someone else getting this and it looked delicious but they thought I wanted the old fashioned girl, which also has a smokey flavor. The dessert chocolate-e muffin concoction was rich and tasty. The chef actually came out during our visit and sat with us and jokingly tried to order food from his wait staff. I enjoyed this comedic act and felt like there was a real personal touch to our meal. My only real disappointment was our check-out experience where we couldn't get our credit card back and it took almost 30 minutes to actually pay and leave. The whole meal was also expensive but I knew that going in and knew we were paying for a special, unique experience.
