Since we were busy packing for the 2100 mile move, any notarized documents were done at our home, on our time. It was a blessing and a fantastic time saver having the Notary come to us. I could list each fantastic experience but what I suggest is if you are looking for a home loan and coordination of all the little and overwhelming monumental tasks I really recommend using FAFCU. F&A changed my whole login, it's the worst thing that could have happened, I'm currently unable to view & see my current bank statement! the genius that thought to merge bank accounts if you have multiple, was a piss poor idea. I have two accounts with F&A, my 1st & older account is my main account with all the activity such as direct deposit bill pay, car loan, & other's, the 2nd & newer account has no activity whatsoever" the only bank statement I have access to is linked to in now linked to my newer account that has no activity. I needed to verify my direct deposit & was very unsuccessful. The merging of accounts has caused high stress! The phone rep was able to see what I was stating, & that my primary account bank statement was in fact NOT showing up in the statement area, I was placed on hold & the young lady came back & advised me that the person who handles this was helping another customer, & would call me back on 09/04/23! I still haven't received a call back as of 09/09/23 Also, I was informed, that I could be inconvenienced by having the account login deleted, & create another one! I didn't change anything the 1st time, so why should I have to recreate another user's name & password? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE! & out of courteous, no one has reached out to me to help me resolve this without any further due hardship this has caused me. I still haven't been able complete my transactions & my bank statement is still NOT showing. I'm so disappointed & thinking about using my other bank (Chase) for my direct deposit. read more

I love F&A. My parents opened my account since I was born and I have been with them for over 40 years. They are quick to answer calls. Currently I have my mortgage, savings, checking, credit card and IRA through them. Everything is always quick. Even though I have moved over 3 hours away from the branch I do not switch due to the best rates and service. Everything I do is online or over the phone with them and I have not had any issues. I have banked with two other banks as well but F&A has definitely been the best. read more

I've been a member of this credit union for almost 30 years. I've dealt with many financial institutions, but this has been the most professional and easiest to work with. I've had very few issues with F&A and the times I had, it was partly do to my errors. As for the bad reviews, I think people sometimes expect perfection instead of reality. read more

Had the worst, most demeaning, experience with F&A's loan department recently. They were very unprofessional with me and my husband, and someone within the company completely messed with our application and blamed us for lying when we submitted all the proof they needed. Today, Tuesday Sept.3, the next day after Labor Day, was very hard to reach them by phone and by internet. They might be having a lot of calls and online traffic after the long weekend. Their website could not be reached. Calls to their phone numbers, including the 1-800 number, took a very long time to connect, or did not connect at all. There would be no ringing sound, just static. You would just hear a bit of static for about 3 minutes and then connect. But, after finally connecting, you would get a recording to enter your member number, then the recording asked you to leave a message and they would call you back. Guess what? I did not get a call back that day! I think F&A used to be better when it was a smaller credit union, before they merged with that other bank in Whittier. I really hate being answered by recordings!!!! That is the way big institutions deal with people nowadays; they herd us through a maze of recorded messages.....I rather not call them at all !!! read more

F & A has been my metaphorical mattress since I was a child...it's where I stash my cash. My dad opened my account when I was young. Save for a couple out of the way bank accounts obtained for the sole purpose of actually having AND KEEPING savings - this is my primary financial institution. F & A has seen me through consolidation loans, financing my first car, and endless deposits and withdrawals. They employ friendly folks eager at helping it's customers. The tools (phone and Internet) they give you to monitor your account are reliable and up to the minute. I am pretty lucky to have been born into the F & A family. It feels like a small, intimate business, especially since they look to me every year to vote on the members of the board, well along with all the other credit union members. I love my credit union for many reasons but one of the best reasons to love F & A Federal Credit Union is because it has a museum dedicated to the show Emergency! Really really loooove my credit union but the hours aren't very convenient at least at this location. Closing at 4 is so inconvenient. Yes, I know there's a Whittier branch that closes later but Whittier doesn't always have what I need. So today I have to leave work early to get there before 4 to get what I need. Once again my card as been compromised. Not even a month after the last one. Starting to lose faith with these people. This is getting really old and might have to just bank with someone else. read more

Update: Shortly after posting this review, a manager called me and vowed to help me get my accounts open. Unfortunately, I had to fill out all 4 applications again. But to her credit, she opened all four accounts later the same day. I appreciate the prompt customer service that she provided, yet I was still disappointed that it took a month and 12 applications later. Again, everyday online banking is good, and they obviously care about customer satisfaction. I gave them 2 stars more because of the immediate attention given after this post. Used to be good..same comments as below. Went to Vegas, card did not work on a weekend, no money in Vegas is not a good thing. Call Credit Union on Monday and the response was, Did you tell us you were going to Vegas? Uh, excuse me? Do I need to tell you I'm going to Vegas? Went to Texas to go on a cruise, went to Walmart shopping was approved. Went to Honduras and Belize, shopping was approved. Come home and two weeks later I tried buying a beer at a bar and the card was declined. response: you went to Walmart two weeks ago, that is a red flag. Uh two weeks later? Shopping approved after in Central America but denied in Fullerton, CA? The worst part is that employees (manager inclusive) blame you for their incompetence. read more

I had heard good things about this bank from my fellow workers so I thought I'd give it a try as my second bank. This bank has been nothing but inconvenient and trouble. Wait -- I should say INCONVENIENT. To mitigate the inconvenience I set up my health savings account as an automatic deposit to F & A. I *never* take money out....just put in. Yet I went to use my debit card last week and was denied. I called and a man there tells me I was overdrawn for seven days. Huh? How can + + + + = overdrawn. Then, with great 'tude and rudeness he emphasises to me "You WERE overdrawn." Asks if I want my cards re-activated. Um, yea...duh. That will come in handy when I close my account! I thought this bank was lousy before that incident. I really gave them time to show me how wonderful I had heard they were. Times up. read more

Oh no fees you say! Great! The drive up teller that opens at 730am is absolutely AWESOME! The in branch service is nice if you are in a leisurely mood. All the tellers are helpful with smiles and seem to know a lot about their customers. I hear extended conversations about family and things like that. Absolutely nothing is wrong with it as long as you have the time for the leisure. Don't be in a rush coming here. So that's exactly what I do. If I need to go in I make sure I have the time to do so. Please don't change that about this place. In this hustle bustle world it's nice to have extra human contact. The downside of it all is the fact the locations are lacking, you can go to a credit union service center which they have everywhere. So it's not a bad thing. But if you need a bank check, the service center will charge you a fee for it. Really? This should simply be a courtesy as all other transactions are. I think it's unfair. F and A is not a bank for impromptu international traveling. I left to Europe and no, I did not set up a travel notice for all my locations. One was a last minute change while I was already gone. I decided to go to Turkey and I had left 3 countries before reaching Turkey and I was able to withdraw money from the ATM in the currency for each county. We can speak exchange rates all day, but for me, I'd rather withdraw from the atm in the countries currency. then there is no exchanging back to US dollars or losing out on rates because of the next countries currency not being strong. So when it's time to take money out in Turkey, I couldn't get anything out. I couldn't call F and A and give them a travel alert as they were closed when I decided to go there and I didn't have any internet access either. When I was able to call instead of being helpful the representative was quite condescending. Here I am in Turkey with what I thought only 5 Euros (I later found my 300 dollar US stash that apparently I hid well from myself to ha ha) . So as the rep was chastising me about calling in with a travel alert. Then she tells me I will not be able to withdraw any money from Turkey because F and A does not do business with terrorist countries. Huh? when did Turkey become the terror? Okay besides that I was stuck with no money (as I thought) and had no idea what to do. The rep told me she would unlock my card but I had to go to a bank and do a cash advance from my card. ohhhh sure hi take me to the nearest bank please in my best Turkish sentence. Good grief. It was really annoying to be chastised during this ordeal. Come on lady I'm in a panic here...I'm in Turkey with no cash, so I thought. The funny thing MOST banks do not take these alerts anymore because their cards have chips, and in theory the chip technology is suppose to protect you from fraud. I called Capital one told them my unfortunate situation they felt bad, told me to set up a pin code and go to the ATM to get money and they would not charge me a cash advance fee. And if I needed more than the ATM allowed I could go to the bank and do a cash advance too with no associated fees. oh THANK you how accommodating. With F and A If any sort of fraud is done on your account, they do not have an option of reimbursing you the missing money. Instead you have to wait til the investigation is over for the money to be returned. Commercial banks of course give you an instant credit and go from there. Now in defense of F and A being accommodating, once I left on a cruise to Catalina and Ensenada. I didn't get cash before I left because I figured I would use the ATM in Catalina which is stil US, California. So I get there my card doesn't work. I try to use it on the ship same thing. So at the time I call and find out that my card was compromised. Oh compromised for I think the 3rd time at this point. So they tell me, someone purchased shoes from Italy on my card so they suspended it because the charge appeared fraudulent. So I explain, hey I'm on a cruise, will be pulling into Mexico I need money. Well the rep says sorry we disabled your card. I said well humor me. Let's pretend it was me who bought those shoes, what would you do? She said we would turn your card on. I said ok then I bought the shoes, stay on the phone with me. I'm going to walk to the ATM on the ship, I am going to withdraw 500 dollars. You will see that I am making this withdraw. Now once my money is in my hand I will tell you. Then I will review that shoe purchase. So I was able to get my money then. And then I told her that my shoes from Italy were not my purchase. So they cut my card off and sent me a new one. But still why is it that the compromises continue to happen and what seems to be so often. I still have an old school chip card. I don't know if they have chip options as they have not informed me. If they do have it they should FORCE everyone to get the chip to try and protect them. read more

This credit union is not a service center and they refused to service me since I belong to a different credit union

This is far and away the worst financial establishment I've ever had to deal with. They say I have overdraft protection but somehow the same amount that is overdrafted is deducted twice from each account. That is either false advertising or some sort of fraud. Been a member for about 5 years and I've had it with their substandard and suspect business operations. The app is like something out of 2004, the website doesn't update over the weekend which makes keeping track of finances more difficult than they should be which means they fail to do their job. After my next paycheck I'm closing my account and moving to Unify Financial Credit Services because F&A Federal Credit Union appears to be completely fine with complacency and whatever shady practices they use to complicate the most basic functions as a credit union. I can't even be sure any of the positive reviews on here aren't bias family members who got their accounts because their relatives work there. read more

This bank is horrible!!! I'm a firefighter who started banking here 18 years ago. My entire banking experience has been the absolute worst!! Their customer service SUCKS, They treat their customers like criminals. They give you a hard time about getting loans, refinancing, or increasing your limit on a credit card. This information comes not just from me but other firefighters that I work with. Most of us have credit scores in the 750 range. All of the customer service reps have funky attitudes. So I've closed out all my accounts and moved to FIREFIGHTERS FIRST CREDIT UNION!! This place is for us! They treat you like family. They go above and beyond to make sure all your needs are taken care of. So after F&A finishes treating you like garbage. Call Firefighters First, my coworkers and I have all moved over!! This is my credit union and I really like it here. They are very helpful and actually make me feel like they care. I used to be part of BofA and I really didn't like it and now being part of F&A I realize that I was sure missing out on a lot. F&A offers discount prices on tickets, they now have mobile banking app, they can even help with purchasing a car! The only I do not like, are the hours. I wish they would open either earlier or stay open later as it can be hard to go if you have a job that is from 9-5pm. I also wish ATMS wereore convenient but you can go to any 7-11 and used the ATM there free of charge! read more

I finally found a bank that I love!! it's close to home, customer service is great, banking is convenient since I can use any 7-11 store at no charge. We recently opened a saving account for my Grand kids and they gave them a cartoon video to show them how to save. (They loved it) Bea the Teller is so sweet and always helpful. Another person that really stands out is Aymee Ocampo she went out of her way to help my family and it's very rare you find people like this now a days. I love F&A and will bank here forever. They are so much better than the big banks. I never get charged fees and they don't hold my deposits. And I love that I don't just have to go to their branch as I have atm's closer to my house that I can use with no problem. They also sell discounted tickets for a bunch of stuff. I have had zero issues with F&A over the years and they have been very helpful whenever I needed assistance. Great benefits here at this Credit Union. Even though it's "Fire & Agriculture" I was able to join since I work for a city that is covered under LA County Fire Department. You get better interest rates on loans, your accounts including checking, no fee for using your debit card, great service, and its free. I originally used this only as a savings account to save for a house, since the location is in the opposite direction after work and they close when I get off work. Decided to switch from BofA for all my accounts. Only bummer is they cant print the debit cards on site so you have to wait about 10 days for it in the mail. Also you get a generic PIN in the mail so you have to go back in a change it in person. They are part of the Co-Op network meaning you can make deposits and withdraws from any ATM w/ in the network meaning just about every credit union ATM. Also you can pull out way more from the ATM with them versus BofA's limits. read more

Don't get me wrong, I like my credit union. The fees, etc are good. Here are the reasons why I subtracted 2 stars. #1 ease of access. Although, I understand they only have this branch. It's tedious to have to drive down here all the times I need to deposit my check. There are countless ATMs but I have yet to find one that allows check or even cash deposits. #2 They're finance department is laughable and questionable. My father, who is retired, makes double if not triple the average household income in Los Angeles, around 90k-100k a year, thanks to real estate investments. He and my mother have a near perfect FICO, my dad has 820 and my mother has an 845. The only debt my father has is from a property he recently purchased with me, (my house) and his home which should be paid off in about 5-6 more years (mortgage is around $800). So despite all that, he wasn't "approved" by the Finance Manager. He got denied. My father informed me he was a complete imbecile who didn't know what he was doing. Useless! The following day he went to Wells Fargo and got approved within 15 - 30 minutes for a $400,000 dollar loan right off the bat. If my dad couldn't even get approved here...why am I here again? read more
