I thoroughly enjoyed going through the entire space and found more than one thing on my list, as well as some that I didn't know were on my list until I saw them!

That's standard practice in EVERY antique mall in America and not what I was even asking. I inquired about 20% off the item and she didn't bother to call the dealer to ask (perhaps she was the dealer, not sure?). Either way, prices are apparently non-negotiable here. It sucks that beautiful piece will languish there forever. On a positive note, I like that they have a separate building for primitives so I can easily avoid them. Overall it's worth a stop, but I expected better quality items from an "antique capital".

My 12 year old got excited but we missed the turn and I thought we were done... till we ended up spending the night in Fremont which has a Shelton location. Their sign said was the world's largest fireworks store and I have no basis for comparison, but I would not want to be in there if someone lit a cigarette. We got a boxed assortment for $55 or so and added some bottle rockets and a big rocket, then the proprietress threw in a "grand finale" which was one of the cake type displays with multiple holes and a fuse that makes them go off in sequence. Last night, hopefully safe in the sand on a lake in upstate NY, we finally shot them off. There was only one semi-dud in 20 or so items. The favorites were the mortars... little balls with long fuses that you shoot out of a tube to get a nice display at about 30 feet... and the various cake types. The big rocket was perfect to start it all. Fountain types were the least impressive. There were no instructions and I'd never done this before so I peeled back the cellophane and exposed the fuses for better burning, maybe this contributed to the high success ratio. Much enjoyment by the assembled children and adults and with cautious adult lighting I did not feel unsafe. A friend from Jersey asked me how much I'd paid and told me he would pay over $100 for the same assortment going across the border into PA. So go to eastern Indiana, assuming you have some other reason to do so. (Maybe to visit the RV Hall of Fame which is just down the road in Elkhart?)

I'm one of those dorks who adds goofs to IMDB. Most people add continuity issues, and I do too, but one of my IMDB-goof specialties is anachronisms. I just have an eye (and ear?) and a memory for phrases, speech patterns, and especially objects that are out of place in films and TV series set before the present, especially in the 1980s. Why am I bringing this up in a review of a hardware store in Shipshewana, Indiana? Why, because this place just reminds me of perusing a huge hardware store with my dad when I was a little kid and we were looking for supplies to build a doghouse for Buster (RIP), whom we hadn't acquired from the Downey pound yet. And further, when I walk around these aisles in 2023, nothing would be totally and completely out of place from those hardware-store visits in 1985. That is, although I'm sure there are objects and tools available here that were invented and patented long after 1985, there's very little that stands out as from the 1990s or 2000s or 2010s or 2020s. How cool is that? It's downright comforting, I tell you. Yes, the hardware is expensive. So what? Things used to be more expensive, relatively. And you know what? That was fine, because things being manufactured locally meant people had more money, because US manufacturing jobs used to pay well, so people could afford to buy well-made products at slightly higher prices, and doing so contributed to the local economy. All that cheapo crap you're buying from Walmart and Target just further enriches already obscenely wealthy people, and do you really need that many more T-shirts? Not that everything sold here is American made; but it does remind me of a much simpler and, yes, better time, at least economically. The people who work here are very friendly, and the selection of everything is ridiculous, especially when you consider how much smaller than a typical Home Depot it is. If you need it for your yard, garage, or farm, they probably have it here. If my parents lived closer to Indiana, I can guarantee you my dad would have bought many more things from here than he has the three or four times we've visited. If you ever find yourself in Northern Indiana with nothing to do, you should check out Yoder's Shipshewana Hardware, along with other businesses in the Yoder's empire (although Yoder is a fairly common surname among Anabaptists, so they might be owned by different Yoders, but those Yoders are all probably related not too far back).

I'm generally in there 2-4 times a week...sometimes several times a day. For a year...I have walked in...greeted people...they know me by name...grabbed a shopping cart...and a 20 cent Charleston chew. I joke with the cashier... "My shopping snack." Or... "I'll be back in a few!" Then...I shop. A lot. Then...I bring my purchases to the cashier...and my empty wrapper. I PAY FOR EVERYTHING...EVERY-TIME! This has been the routine for a year! Today...I picked up my special order...shopped...and ate a Charleston chew. As I was in the parking lot...almost to my car when the "owner" came out to chastise me and verbally assault me. I was so embarrassed and belittled. He said he wasn't accusing me of stealing the Charleston chew...but...there's a store policy about paying first. Okay. I can understand that. Not a problem. But why not just politely tell me...it's been a year!!! I said to him... "You realize I'm in this store every week?" He says... "Yea?" Not... T "Thank you for your loyalty." Just a dismissive..."Yea?" I'm a just a thief. That's fine. I would never chase a loyal customer out into the parking lot...never. If I had been asked politely.... "Can you pay for that before you shop?" Not a problem. Just not a hill to die on. Good luck yoders. You'll be successful because of your location and awesome employees. We heard lots of good things about Longstreet and decided to visit ourselves…read more We recently ordered a living room set from another store and have been waiting months for it to arrive. After multiple delays, we decided to see what other options were out there. Enter Longstreet Living. We were politely greeted several times by every employee that passed by. Every one made sure we were taken care of. We were pleasantly surprised to find a living room outfit we liked better than the one we ordered. The style, the fabric, the quality and the price, were all perfect. After waiting months for our previously ordered living room set, we thought this new set was worth asking a out . Our salesman understood our dilemma and was willing to sell us the display model to help our situation. Luckily enough there was a second set still boxed up in the back. We opted to have the furniture delivered the following week for a small additional fee. After completing the paperwork, we headed for home. Along the way we discussed what we needed to do to cancel the previous order from the chain store. We hadn't made it halfway home when we got a call from Longstreet. Our salesman wondered if we were heading straight home and offered to deliver the furniture today. He actually said he thought I might like to watch the game this weekend on my new couch, and wondered if we would be around for the delivery!! After waiting months for our previously ordered set, with no delivery in sight, this was a huge surprise. The way all the other stores were delaying deliveries, we never expected to have furniture for a while. Longstreet made new friends that day. I'm definitely going back for a bedroom outfit.
