I never think to do a review because F&M fabrics has been around since the dawn of time for me. My cousin and I would play with the loose button box as our mom's shopped. This was the first place we went to in highschool when shopping for cosplay. This is a very nostalgic place for me. If you don't know. This is huge store with bolts and bolts and bolts of fabric. The service here is great, they have multiple people walking around and asking what you need. I came in the other day for velvet and lace and he gave me options and cut what I needed. The woman at the register is also always so sweet. I just adore her! They also have a sales aisle in the back and various sales in the front. When I say they have everything for every fabric based project. I'm saying you can make sundresses for the kids on one side and reupholster your furniture on the other side, paired with matching curtains and make blankets as well. I went to pick up an online order... . This place is huge! They had my order ready at the counter... great pick up service. The selection is better than some places in the LA Fashion district. Trims and notions galore. Most of the prices are significantly better than many of the online fabric sources. Definitely going back! read more

Ask a question and I get the shortest rudest answers. He tries to mansplain fabric to me. Went in to get some fabric cut and I nicely asked for help told me to get in line there was no one else there. So I will play your game and move two feet to the right for help. I can't believe I haven't written a review for my favorite fabric store in all of Bakersfield, the great great F&M Fabrics. I have been coming here since I was a little girl this is my moms spot! They have great prices and all the fabrics you could dream of like glitter to your favorite sport's teams. The people are very helpful and the owner is super nice! Not to mention this place is. amazing and resilient all the business around have come and gone and this one remains so, it makes me nostalgic when I walk in always good memories. I remember coming here with my mom after school and it meant my mom was going to make me a new dress, pj's, or a blanket. After a few years of attempting to explore this place, I finally had the chance to visit while planning what to wear for Halloween. This is a huge fabric store compared to some stores in Bakersfield. They have a wide variety of fabrics and all sewing accessories that you can think off. If you can't find anything in their showroom, check the fabrics by the window. Those were the fabrics that were in the back storage because they don't have space in the show room. They also have sequined stuff that are on sale but you have to be patient to dig through things. I'm not sure if their prices are reasonable, but so far they have not exceeded my budget. If you're into sewing, this place is definitely worth your visit and you'll be like me- "a kid in a candy store"! read more

I absolutely love this fabric store. It's perfect for people who are creative and want to explore the possibilities of fabric. There is some limitation on what's available in terms of things that are new or they might not necessarily have a color that you want, but the staff is extremely knowledgeable and there is so much to choose from at really manageable prices! I go here because it's the biggest fabric place in town. It always feels like the place needs to be dusted. They don't have a lot of other items to choose from, such as thread, scissors, needles, buttons, and such and what they do have seems as if they were leftovers from the 1970s. When walking around the store I get the feeling as if some of the items have been in the place since day one. They don't seem offer deals or coupons (I check every now and then) The staff could be a bit more friendly, the women always seem to be angry. read more

I have been waiting for my order for an entire week already. When I called and spoke to "Martha" she was of no help whatsoever. I was explaining to her that I hope they have the product I PURCHASED since it was such a delay on my order and she seemed to not care at all and would not let me speak and rudely kept speaking over me. This business is unacceptable of how they treat their PAYING CUSTOMERS. So disappointed and will never shop here again! Worst customer service! After a few MORE days of not receiving a call to confirm my order was ready I called to cancel them. They started telling me "Oh no we can have it ready for you by today, can you come pick it up?" My mother, the Super Homemaker suggested to check out this fabric store. I'm having a DIY wedding and plan to make my own table runners. I walked in and wasn't sure where to go. They had an overwhelming amount of fabric, row after row. They don't have anything labeled, such as style of fabric, cotton, flannel, chiffon, which makes you go around the store a few times to somewhat know where to look for your fabric. Not one employee greeted me or asked if i needed help with anything. When i asked for help they pointed in a direction and stated two aisles for the style i was looking for. Then when i was attempting to get a better look at the fabrics, i realized that i would have to Pry the roll of fabric, okay not a huge deal, but still no help. I then decided i wanted a polyester fabric that was not accessible, the associate said, "did you look all around for it?" I had and I'd like the polyester fabric. She walked away and said someone will help me soon. They also didn't want to help. I decided to just get a swatch, leave and come back if i decided that would fit the best for my table runners. I'm all about customer service when I go into a store. Until yesterday, I was unable to write this positive review about the staff. Usually, the staff says nothing and looks right through me (except one lady. She never smiles but she's helpful). Anthony was a joy. He is the first staff member to greet me with a smile and ask me if I needed help. Thanks Anthony! I was shocked. Actually, the guys are far more helpful than the women at this store. However, the cashier is always pleasant. So why do I returning to this store even when the staff is usually unhelpful? Because the selection can't be beat and neither can the prices! This is the best fabric store hands down in Bakersfield! Well worth the sometimes rude and often unhelpful staff. The wide variety of fabric supercedes Joann's and Beverly's. This is not a craft store, it's a fabric store. They do have notions but don't expect to find wooden crafts, pictures frames, or scrapbooks. They do have patterns but not many. I would advise anyone to go to this store if they have a special project that requires any type of fabric. From upholstery fabric to tulle. They have fabrics that are $2.99 per yard and up. I've been going here for well over 10 years and the fabrics and most of the employees have been great to me. But I would warn against using cash here. Just in the past month I was given change that they later deemed counterfeit when I tried to use it again (it was just an older bill) and another occasion when I was short changed by about $10 and didn't realize right away. read more

A great find in Bakersfield. But only go if you want a deal, know your fabrics, have time and patience. Whatever you do, don't let the measurement stickers become dislodge from your cut fabric, they'll kick you out of line and make you hunt it down.
