Review of C & O Masonry Contractor (Manu) - Driveway Replacement, August 2025…read moreAfter receiving several proposals for replacing my badly cracked asphalt driveway, I selected C & O Masonry Contractor. Their quote was competitive--not the highest, not the lowest--but what really set them apart was their professionalism. I had been warned by several of my local advisors that many concrete contractors in the area are known for demanding large sums upfront, only to delay work or disappear entirely. Thankfully, C & O proved to be the complete opposite. Initial Impressions:The owner, Manu, first contacted me via text and promptly scheduled a site visit for 2 PM the following day. True to his word, he arrived a few minutes early, presented his business card, and reviewed the project scope, which included removing the existing asphalt and installing a new 4-inch-thick concrete driveway with a border around my carport. One of my first impressions was the respectful and collaborative relationship between Manu and his son, who accompanied him. It was clear this was a man teaching his son the value of honest work--a detail that really resonated with me. Work Process & Execution:On August 20, Manu and his son arrived at 8 AM to begin work. (Unbeknownst to me, the excavator had already arrived the previous evening.) Over the course of three days, the crew removed the old asphalt, hauled it away in a dumpster, formed the new layout, and laid wire mesh. I later requested a minor upgrade to fiberglass rebar, which Manu handled with professionalism and ease--listening carefully and making the change without issue. On August 26, a full crew of at least 12 workers arrived along with a pump truck and two loads of concrete. In less than four hours, they poured over 22 yards of concrete, completing the job efficiently and with great attention to detail. While work was underway, three men dressed in casual business attire appeared and introduced themselves as union representatives or inspectors. They stood on my lawn and observed the project for about an hour, which only further reassured me that everything was being done to standard. Results:The finished product--driveway and walkway--is clean, precise, and has a beautifully sealed "wet look." I contracted Manu to seal the concrete right after the pour, and I'm very happy with that decision. My neighbors have since commented on how great it looks and how professional the crew was throughout the process. Final Thoughts:If you're wondering whether I would recommend C & O Masonry Contractor, the answer is a firm yes. In fact, more than just a recommendation, they will be my first call for any future concrete work. -- Louis from Kaneohe, August 2025

She was great with communicating and was a big reason we ended up going with Menora over other contractors. The project included excavation, building a CMU wall, extending a driveway, and building a patio. I really appreciate your efforts and dedication to finishing my family yard. Suli's team were able to complete this large project all before we had family visit during the holidays. It's truly a blessing to know and work with this small family business, especially Maka and his team, they did such an amazing job! You can tell he takes pride in his work. I look forward to working with him in the near future and can't wait to show his talents to friends and family. Thank you so much!

Time: How long does it take to find and interview a…read moredependable masonry contractor? After a two-week search, I selected Menora Masonry from four bids for my December 2024 retaining wall and drainage project. Suli, the owner, ran the mini excavator and ensured efficient teamwork during excavator operations Sione was pure strength. He did a lot of the excavating and put up new posts and gates. A lot was accomplished because he had a good work ethic and was trustworthy in every way. Younger Sione, Suli's nephew, executed precise bricklaying while others managed cement mixing. He rebuilt the failing wall sections and also a leaning column with great precision. Task on December 11, 2024: To replace the weak sections of my retaining wall that held the terraced front area of my property. Then run 80 feet of perforated PVC pipe underground along it to relieve the pressure of excess water into an adjoining swale easement. In addition, water in my back garden area, weathered by mauka wind and rain, would pool and seep beneath the slab of my house. Menora jackhammered part of the old walkway and created slope for the water to empty into the same swale easement and away from the foundation. They also built a raised cement barrier along the house. Communication: An area of improvement could have been reviewing our understanding of the planned work in intervals. While communication could improve with mid-project checkpoints (especially during garden water mitigation), post-work cleanup with Suli's son, Suli Jr., revealed excellent attention to detail. The January 2025 storm validated their work - both wall stability and drainage performed flawlessly under heavy wind and rain. I had complete peace of mind for my neighbors below that the wall would hold and not cause damage; and that the garden-side rain would not pool towards the house. I truly appreciate the hard work and effort on the part of Menora Masonry and highly recommend them!
