DIY gone wrong. I tried to switch out the water mixing cartridge in a shower and due to some…read morecalcium build up, it wouldn't budge. I put it back together, but the water would no longer turn off so we had to keep the water to the entire house turned off. I called Ray's and they were not able to come out that night. The next day they were there within an hour of calling them. An hour later they had it fixed completely. The competition came out the night before and talked about putting valves in the basement, tearing out a bedroom wall to get to the back of the plumbing, and cutting through the shower wall! I knew this was not required because Ray's had switched out the other cartridge just a few months prior to this incident. The competition told me the cartridge was stuck and he may not be able to get a part since it was 8 p.m. He looked up the part and said it would be about $500 for the part and around the same for labor. I told him I'd call another plumber and deal with the mess in the morning. The competition charged me $189 to do nothing. Ray's charged me a total of $200 for parts and labor. I will never attempt plumbing DIY again and I will never use another plumbing service!

He made it clear that we would need a dedicated line installed and that extra parts might be needed. He received an estimate and agreed to the potential installation. Unfortunately, the work could not be completed, and we received a bill higher than the original estimate. I'm still unclear how no work is now more expensive than actual work due to drive time when the company offers free quotes after visiting a home. However, I don't make their policies. I called to question the bill and the man I spoke with from the company proceeded to tell me a fascinating nonsensical story pertaining to what my husband told him; this contractor did not realize I had caught my husband's side of the call to their business on our home cameras. Granted, my husband isn't much of a phone person, and for all I know, the phone may have cut out. Perhaps this is a more insidious and expensive revival of "who's on first". However, what I can say is that some companies you pay to perform a service, others you pay to avoid weaponized incompetence and to take their performance elsewhere. They ran into some issues with tree limbs blocking the lines and had to bring in special piece of equipment to resolve the issue.
