Interesting gym. I needed a couple gyms to go to off of ClassPass in La Jolla, San Diego, CA. I found a yoga gym and the F45 gym. I think that is a good combination. Here, I did their version of HIIT circuit training. They have their own equipment. I asked if it was custom made and she said that F45 is a franchise. You run the franchise and they provide the equipment, which includes kettlebells, dumbbells, and whatever else. I have done most of these exercises training in SF. I think it is a good workout. You still need to get some cardio in by swimming or running. Challenge yourself with various weights. It's circuit definitely and you look at a video screen with the exercise stations. It would be hard to remember. They give you a run through at the beginning. It's 45 minutes, but that feels like a long time. I had to leave early to get out to the cove for kayaking today. Jason was helpful and it's worth it off ClassPass. It's in La Jolla, so it's more polished.

On May 1st I walked into a new gym with the mindset that I needed something different to get me back into shape. What I found was much more! F45 La Jolla has changed both my body and mind. I'm down 45 pounds and today I just won the F45 8 Week Challenge! Down 6% body fat in the last 8 weeks and gained muscle in the process. Thank You to everyone in the F45 La Jolla Family!

I feel the confidence thanks to F45!

I'm truly grateful to have found a functional fitness gym that complements my marathon training and is helping me rebuild after taking two years off heavy weight training. The classes are super structured and always well explained, with built-in modifications if needed. One thing I love is that each station has a TV screen showing the movements, so even if you forget, you always have a visual reference. The programming is intentional--it keeps you from getting overly fatigued or risking injury, while still challenging you to push hard when it's your turn. The rotating group format includes rest blocks that give you just enough time to recover and hit the next set strong. I love that part so much! The mix of cardio and functional strength is solid--it never feels like too much of either, and the balance is thoughtfully spread out throughout the week. And the best part? It's a real community. Everyone is genuinely supportive and here to help each other hit personal goals. Parking is super easy, too! There's a convenient lot behind the building shared with Harry's Diner, plus plenty of neighborhood parking nearby, so I've never had trouble finding a spot--even in La Jolla. The facility itself is insanely clean, well-stocked with PT and mobility tools, and clearly designed with so much intention. I don't even live in La Jolla, and I still make the commute--it's 100% worth it.

If you've ever dragged yourself out of a warm bed at 5:45am, looked in the mirror, and thought "today's the day I stop being a before picture" -- these trainers will meet you there. And that's the honest truth. The training at Fitstop La Jolla is the real deal. Classes start on time. They're efficient. The energy's positive. Nobody makes you feel like a sack of laundry for not deadlifting a Buick. The trainers are the whole reason this place works -- encouraging, locked in, they meet you exactly where you are. A few of them are flat-out spectacular. They pay attention. They actually care. As a guy showing up to 6am classes trying to turn things around and start crushing life, I felt supported every single morning. No notes. That part earned five stars. Couple small things, and I'm barely complaining. The music gets... lyrically adventurous. If you've ever done burpees at 6:15am while a grown man on the speakers describes things you wouldn't want said about your daughter -- you might train at Fitstop. But hey, they want it edgy. Who cares. Not my hill to die on. Here's my hill. I tried to leave. And here's the kicker -- I did it right. I gave the exact 28-day written notice their own contract spells out, in writing, by the book. You'd think that'd be the easy part. You'd be wrong. Instead of "got it, here's your last day," I got the runaround. By my read they're billing me nearly a month past what their own contract says I owe -- a 28-day notice somehow turned into a final date that doesn't line up with 28 days from anything. And when I pointed out the math, the answer was basically "no discrepancy," with no real explanation of how the dates work. Upton Sinclair said it best: it's hard to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on not understanding it. And let me be real clear, because this is the part that matters. This is NOT a "read the fine print" review. I read the fine print. I followed the fine print. The problem isn't the fine print -- the problem is they don't honor what's in it. If you've ever followed a contract to the letter and watched a company wave off the math with "no discrepancy" -- you might be cancelling a Fitstop membership. And that's the shame of it. I liked these people. The fitness side deserved a way better review than this. But it doesn't matter how good you feel at 6am if you walk out the door at the end feeling like you got worked over. You can build all that goodwill at sunrise and torch it at the billing desk. Honor your own contract and this is easily four stars. Great trainers. Just know that when it's time to leave, that's where the workout really starts.

I've tried all the new circuit classes from Revel Fit, Renegade, OTF, F45, and I guarantee that no one will program or kick your a$$ like Bryan at Versatile Fitness! This is a no-frills, old boxing gym vibe (think OG Rocky) where you come to WORK! Bryan's programming, exercise acumen, and super sets will challenge you, but also be some of the most effective and productive workouts. He has almost every piece of equipment I've seen in a gym from rowers, ropes, barbells, curl bars, pulley systems, sleds, water weights, benches, kettlebells, free weights, Terra core, TRX, bands, discs, and the list goes on. I have attended about 10 classes and I have yet to repeat a workout. It's insane the quality of training and programming you would get through this gym for the price. Anywhere else, it would cost thousands for this level of programming, so anyone who attends these classes is getting a steal of a deal for this type of workout! Classes are 45min, with several stations per class. Each day has a target focus such as pull, push, leg, abs, and/or cardio, depending on the day. The target is there, but you are always getting a decent total body workout. Each station has 2-3 exercises that you do 2 sets per station. You have around 3 people per station, and then you rotate. Bryan goes around to demo each exercise as you move stations, and also has the workouts written on a whiteboard at the front of the room. Bryan will also provide quick corrections, as needed. Please note, in large group class settings, rarely will get you get alot of correction or instruction. It's not feasible to have that much personalized focus in these types of classes. Each class starts with a short warm-up, and a quick cooldown at the end. I have only taken class with Bryan, as he is the staple of this gym. He also has an extensive background with over 20yr of experience and he also offers some nutrition and personalized coaching programs for fat shredding and other fitness goals. This gym is a hidden gem and morning classes are usually full. I am literally perplexed how the afternoon classes are not exploding with members because I have yet to see anyone have the stellar exercise programming and versatility that Versatile Fitness provides. I've seen so many different trainers and attended many gyms, and Bryan's programming is the most innovative and BRUTAL (in the best way), that I've experienced. Before the main room with all the machines, you'll find lockers, bathrooms, and water fountains. We stowed our stuff and once doors opened, we quickly went in to claim our spots. If it's your first time, make sure you come early so there's enough time for the instructor to go over the equipment and how the class works. Instead of weights, the equipment relied on tension and it might not seem hard but the workflows have a lot of holding that tension so you really feel the burn. The beginning started off with a lot of abs exercises and then switched to lower body with some upper body stuff. By the end, I could really feel it in my abs and slightly in my legs. I used to work at a fitness studio when I was in college (not as an instructor though LOL) and she is everything you could want in an instructor. She is kind, welcoming, explained everything very well to me, always demonstrates or helps me when I need it, and she's super fit and gorge~ Side note, this is probably the place with THE most fit people I've ever seen! At work-out classes I've tried in the past, I tend to see a lot of people who aren't so fit, or maybe there are some older people in there. But in the few classes I've taken here, everyone is really fit! Maybe because this location is in a college area so the demographic has more fit people? But either way, I think it speaks to the classes' effectiveness and the people nor class were intimidating so I think everyone should try it! The class is a little fast-paced and there's a lot of moves going on, but just copy whatever your neighbor is doing and since you are kind of doing them autonomously, you can go at your own pace and take breaks when needed. I also HATE running, but so far they've been in short bursts (30 seconds or 1 minute) so it is much more palatable. And their equipment is really cool! I've never used the air runner before but it is sick! Things they could work on: 1. The website is absolute trash for new customers, whoever is in charge of the site should definitely be reconsidered LOL. If you want to book at this particular location, you will face a few glitches but I think try booking it under the "UTC schedule" and hopefully you won't run into problems there. 2. The outside is very discreet so you might miss it, it looks like a vacant space...there isn't even a sign that says Renegade - there is just a subtle small "R." And they do not utilize their front space (not sure the story there...they should really take advantage of that sq footage!), so it looks like an empty warehouse. I honestly thought the place was closed when I got there.

I will say that I was most disappointed with the sense of community here. People don't even seem happy to work out with each other. No one smiles and says hi. Are they not happy to be here? The timing can be kind of convenient, but the vibe was really offputting. Also, do y'all do the same workout Saturday and Sunday? Seems weird.

Admittedly, it's a vibe. However, these concepts have you starting on the tread and switching off to the bench anywhere from 2-3 times. I feel like you do not get the ultimate benefit of either. The weight segment is also super ineffective, incorporating "compound" moves for basically everything with upwards of 5-7 different exercises for a max of MAYBE 2 sets. I get why people love this concept because it's hard to stay motivated with the same boring workout. Plus, these workouts will undoubtedly have you feeling sore, this feedback being what people thrive off of, because sore muscles=growth, right? WRONG, as you absolutely SHOULD NOT feel sore after every single workout. In terms of progress, you will quickly flat line with the lack of consistency due to all the randomness. However, people have different goals and exercise is better than none, I mean, if you can afford it!

The studio is spacious and has treadmills + benches with weights and bands in each space plus extra weights along the wall you can grab for heavier lifting. Another thing I really love about the treads is the ability to do sled pulls and parachute runs...haven't found another studio in SD that has them! The trainers are motivating, the music playlists are curated to really pump you up and the workouts are 50 min - it's effective, efficient and you get a total full body workout and a balance of strength training and cardio w/ the option to double up on weights. I took advantage of the special they had for March for $196/month for unlimited classes (normally $300/month). The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The workouts are never boring and designed to build on each other so that you can meet whatever goal you set for yourself. I've worked out at other gyms that focus on making the workouts as intense as possible. While P360 doesn't lack intensity, it is much more focused on quality than quantity. Instead of doing 100 deadlifts, you will slow it down and work towards your personal max over the course of weeks. The coaches are also extremely available to the members and will work with you on injuries or when you need more instruction. I came in knowing nothing about Olympic lifts. Not only do I feel comfortable with all of them, I've never injured myself in the process.
