The best part is that the strong family atmosphere I have always appreciated and enjoyed is still present--a direct result of the positive culture Matt has prioritized building over the years. So, if you're looking for a top-notch strength and conditioning program that produces results and fosters a community where members truly encourage and motivate each other, I highly encourage you to check it out!

I was first introduced to Matthew Cather by my 17-year-old son 11 years ago, and at the time, I thought it was the toughest workout I had ever attempted. I started training with Matthew twice a week, and now I train five times a week--growing not just physically stronger but also mentally resilient. As a 52-year-old, I firmly believe that the key to longevity is a combination of weight training, strength, mobility, and conditioning--all of which are seamlessly incorporated into our program at Cozmosize. The dedication, expertise, and sense of community here make every session both challenging and rewarding. I feel truly blessed to be part of the Cozmo family, and I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to elevate their fitness journey!

Finally found my niche between heavy lifting at a typical gym, and doing my cardio outdoors. But recently, I needed that extra ooomph to push me harder than I was pushing myself. Now if you've ever been to a Crossfit gym, you know how hardcore that workout is. And not all Crossfit gyms are created equally. I wanted to try something different and maybe something that wouldn't burn me out so much that I couldn't continue the heavy lifting I was still doing. Enter Training Day Fitness. I liked the class structure. Kept me on a good schedule. And the classes were never ever too big. Another plus. The workouts were a great mixture of strength, core, cardio, and lots of movement. Something I was lacking in my own workouts. The results were amazing within the first couple of months. I completely blasted through y heavy weight plateaus. I was more energetic. I moved faster. Just all around healthier. And there was never a point where I felt that I was overdoing it to dangerous levels. The workouts were so scalable that no matter where you were in your fitness and what your goals were, everyone could workout together. And because it's a small gym, it feels like a family where everyone supports and encourages each other in their fitness journey. Price-wise, it may seem expensive when comparing to just a normal gym membership. But you have to keep in mind that every session is a personal training session. So when you break it down, the savings over a personal trainer at your Globo-Gym is great. And trust me on this one, having known personal trainers personally (haha) and seeing the training sessions at the gyms, I'd pass on those. Being that TDF actually trains young athletes from local schools, it's a great place for an average joe like me to get access to the kind of training that varsity athletes get.

If you want to be encouraged to strive for excellence, come be a part of our family! There are coaches here who actually teach and inspire you to get better at your form and improve upon your weaknesses. Yes, modifications are possible and they will scale the workouts for you if you have an injury, or you're learning a new skill, but as an athlete, you're encouraged to push yourself a little harder if you can. And you read that right, I said athlete. When I walked into this facility nearly two years ago, it was mainly due to a challenge set by a group of mom friends who wanted to lose fifteen pounds. Losing weight wasn't my ultimate goal. I just wanted to get stronger and lift things easily into old age. I was always intimidated by CrossFit, having only heard about how intense the workouts were and how people got badly injured. The idea of sweating with other people grossed me out, too. You'd be amazed what a little peer pressure from a group of moms will do for you, though! The first week was grueling and my body felt like I had been run over by a semi-truck. A friend who had been doing CrossFit for years told me to stick with it, and to take a rest day every three days or so. So bit by bit, with encouragement from total strangers who later became good friends and coaches who patiently taught me some skills, I stuck with it. Well fast forward to about a year into my fitness journey and Covid-19 struck the entire world. Winning Edge closed its doors early, way before the quarantine lockdown was enforced in LA County. This didn't stop us from working out together as a group, however. Management allowed us to take gym equipment home on a first-come, first-served basis, without charging any additional fees. This enabled us to continue working out from home via Zoom, which was adopted early on by our coaches. Instead of gaining weight during Covid, I actually got fitter. We even had fitness challenges and Zoom happy hours to keep us feeling inspired and connected. Winning Edge continued to make things better when we were finally allowed to get back to the gym but, surprise, we had to work out outdoors. We had an amazing canopy set up and an outdoor rig. A reservation system was put in place so we could limit the number of people coming and going. When it got too hot indoors, the powers-that-be had enormous industrial-sized fans installed. Basically, the members are spoiled at this gym. I mean, I do remember a time when we had towels for our use, but with Covid-19 that never made a comeback and understandably so! I didn't mean to write an entire essay on my love for all things Winning Edge, but what it comes down to is the people that make up this place. When you walk into this gym, know that you will become part of a community that celebrates the first and last person finishing a workout. You face the grueling workout together and enjoy the reward together. It's even ok to sweat next to these peeps. Just bring your own towel.

F45 is a cardio/resistance training blend. For an intro offer of $25 for 5 classes, I decided to see if this place would kick my butt, too. I met one of the instructors, Cara, who was very helpful and showed me around the place. There's a Pilates class in the back room and a sauna that you can use if you join for the F45 membership, plus an extra fee. Cara explained that the screens would show the movements we were to mirror, but she also told me to go at my own pace and helped me with my form during several of the stations. I went around the room 3 times (15 minutes total, 45 seconds at each station plus 15 seconds to transition to the next station) to get in a very sweaty 45-minute workout. I used to think I was in decent shape. F45 training laughed in my face as I prayed for the 45-second exercise to end, so I could transition to another 45-second exercise that I also wished were over. Somehow, I made it through the workout, humbled. This place is high energy and definitely challenges you mentally and physically. I look forward to continuing my F45 training journey!

There are two main reasons why I give F45 Training a Five Star rating…read more The first reason: these workouts aren't boring. That's super important because most exercise bores me. And if it's boring, I'm not going to want to do it. But that's never an issue at F45. I've found every session to be different enough that I never get bored. The classes are really well-designed. You know when you sign up what the focus of your class will be. There are usually 10 stations that you complete in 45 minutes, but the exercises at each station are different every class. Each station has two different exercises, typically one for the upper body, one for the lower body. You can choose to do either or both. The second, and most important, reason I give this gym a Five Star Rating is the trainers that work here. Especially the early morning staff, Josie, Lauren and Sarah. There are usually at least two trainers working every class. They continuously circulate around the room, so you never have to wait long for one to come by and check to see if your form is correct or if you need a modification. If you have difficulty doing an exercise, a trainer will instantly modify it or give you an alternative exercise. And that's another reason F45 gets 5 stars from me. See, I can actually do very few of the exercises as demonstrated. I need modifications at almost every station. But I know that in less than a minute a trainer will pass by and quickly modify the activity into something I can actually do. So, I always get a great workout here. F45 Training really is a great place to workout. The trainers that work here are incredibly supportive. There is a really positive, high energy, vibe here. Sessions often end with people high-fiving each other. I love that! Mikey C says: I highly recommend F45 Training!

The truth is, keeping up at 51 has been a challenge. Up until about three months ago, I was fighting what I call the 'dad bod life'--adding a few pounds here and there, year after year. It's been almost three months since I joined a mind, body, and soul program, and I've started to feel a real sense of community, or a culture if you will, created by the founder, Jason. Just last week, I found myself with walking pneumonia, and I was laid out for a couple of days--I mean, laid out. After looking into B12 shots, liquid IVs, and cryo chambers, I sent Jason a message and asked, 'Does the infrared sauna really work? I'm feeling pretty drained and need a quick solution.' Since my family and I are members (my wife, my 12-year-old son, and me--don't ask me to repeat my age again, lol), he said, 'I'll put you down for an appointment and give you a quick intro.' The rest is history. After two sessions, and just two days later, I was feeling a lot more like myself. Now, this was after already consulting with western medicine--seeing a doctor and taking medication. The infrared sauna helped me regain my strength in just two days. I found myself looking at my wife, saying, 'Can you believe this?' The point is, the infrared sauna doesn't just help flush out impurities--it also brings back your energy. But more importantly, I'm so grateful to Jason for allowing our family to be part of this community! If you're reading this, I highly recommend you get off the couch and message Jason ASAP!"
