Surprise, surprise. Now I don't mind paying for personal training or classes but they wanted a total of $699 up front as a "bet" that I would potentially get back if I lost, in my case, 5% of my body weight within the six weeks. First, pretty sure this joint doesn't have a gambling license. Second, they don't let you choose your personal goal or the amount you want to bet. This amount is ludicrous for a six week class and most people can't exactly afford to risk to lose that amount or even forfeit it for an amount of time. I didn't get to try the gym as my common sense had me walk out of that "orientation" but from what I saw it looked pretty dead and empty. They definitely have some shady business practices and need to be more up front in their ads.

The members here are just excited about working out as you are, which actually makes working out enjoyable. Can you say that about your current routine? The owners are constantly putting in overtime to make sure the space meets and exceeds the needs of their members. Almost every time I go to class they've ordered something new for us to play with, or organized an area of the gym that needed some extra love. For example, the old office was recently demolished to make room for additional lifting platforms so that the growing Strength class would have more room to spread out. SBCF is fully involved in the community, whether they're hosting a weightlifting meet or firing up the grill and breaking out the beer pong during a tailgate party. They have a super informative (and amusing) blog, and they also keep their Facebook and Twitter pages updated regularly with upcoming events, closures, and funny pictures and videos (I like that kind of stuff). The positive results I've seen in myself, both physically and mentally, make all the hard work completely worth it. I've worked out on my own in the past and have never had such amazing results. I've only been doing Crossfit for three months, but my friends are constantly commenting on how fit I look. They'll even make me flex my arms now and again. Oh, and ladies? If you've ever wanted to lift weights without feeling intimidated, this is absolutely the place to do it. No, you won't get bulky, but be warned: you may get into the best shape of your life.

It's hard to find good gyms that challenge you, but Reflex is a great starting point for beginners and challenging enough for athletes looking to get back in the swing of things. I love the opportunities to go at your own pace and still hold yourself accountable. There's a good balance & the community built adds to it all. Every trainer knows what they're doing so you'll always have a great workout, and being able to use equipment while classes aren't going on is a plus. There's also a second floor with equipment and a sauna! As long as I'm in Maryland, this will be my gym home.

My form on all of my lifts (squat, deadlift, overhead press, and bench press) improved dramatically as a result of Emily's coaching. She pointed out corrections that I would have never noticed on my own. Her guidance gave me the knowledge and confidence to add some serious weight to my lifts and now I'm stronger than I have ever been in my life. The owner will threaten you verbally and physically and try to wheel and deal you into cancelling their membership. They double charge sometimes and randomly. They are not a good business and they will take your money and make it impossible to cancel. They have multiple emails and multiple processes and multiple scripts on how to cancel your membership. You would think by telling and emailing the owner that you want to cancel would suffice, but that is far from the truth. This place is a sham and because of all these other horror stories I have read, I'm glad I escaped when I did. This is the first time I read the reviews and I was a member for years. the owner talks about this freely about not caring about the members and has no problem sending his members to collections because he knows he cons people into signing shoddy contracts that are impossible to get out of. This place deserves less than a star and it's sad because you can get a decent sweat here, but the owner is a horrible person.

I had two doctors notes for broken bones/injuries and I was charged for those months. I finally got an email response which was obvious that they hadn't read my previous emails. When I moved out of the area, I followed my contract to cancel. I unfortunately have been charged 3 months out and have had to dispute with my bank. I cannot in good faith recommend this gym given my experience and other reviews, which is a shame because there's so much potential within the neighborhood.
