I've been a member since May 2023, and despite paying over $1,500 for a full year, I only attended one class. When my AMEX card expired after that year, I didn't bother updating my payment information, assuming it would be obvious to the gym that with such minimal usage, they might either cancel my membership or reach out to me personally. Instead, they sent automated emails and phone calls, asking for payment updates.
I was shocked to get a call from debt collections about a gym membership. When I reached out to the gym, I fully expected them to use common sense and logic, recognizing that they had collected a full year's payment from me without issue, and that I had only attended one class. WRONG. Instead of acknowledging the situation, they pushed back, reminding me that I signed a contract, and then offered to 'work with me' by breaking up the payments for the additional months--yes, we're talking about year 2 here--so I could pay it back.
While I understand the importance of honoring agreements, I believe a truly community-driven organization would recognize the need for a bit of common sense and flexibility in situations like this. Unfortunately, this gym seems more focused on rigidly enforcing contracts than on genuinely supporting their members.
