I've been coming to this spot for almost a year now. they were initially very good as i recall and the guys who work here are pretty chill too, but as time went on, they started going a downward spiral. My most recent experience was nothing but a disappointment and a TOTAL NIGHTMARE. 1. I went in to get my usual haircut after i got off from work. waited for almost 2 hours only to find out that the barber i was waiting for had at least 4 people waiting before me. Seriously, THERE SHOULD BE A BETTER SYSTEM of informing clients how far along they are on the waiting list so they have a clear point idea of how long they will be catered to! 2. Also, I'm not saying all of them have BAD PROFESSIONAL ETHICS, but a number of the barbers here take phone calls while they are doing their client's haircut. I could really care less if they just do an amazing job, but from personal experience, i have had to come back to this place and drive at least 10miles total (back and forth) just to have because the barber who hooked me up f'd up my hair. My sides were way off and uneven and i literally looked i just did my haircut myself. My barber was cool enough to take me again and correct the mess he made, but still, it was much HASSLE on my end to have to driven back to get my hair done again when it SHOULD'VE BEEN DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! 3. I pay $20 + $5 tip each time i get a haircut so I EXPECT NOTHING BUT THE BEST SERVICE. Seriously, there's more competition in this area for cheaper so when people come here they expect to get their MONEY'S WORTH! 4. I also noticed not a lot of barbers here don't PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE QUALITY OF WORK that they put in! Word of advice, always make sure that each client goes out of your shop feeling nothing but sharp and confident like they just had their best haircut! No exaggeration! 5. More recently, I had to go back to get my haircut redone because the end result of my initial haircut looked really odd and I had gotten bad comments about it when my friends saw me. So i drove back to get it redone the same day. To make the long story short, I HAD TO PAY TWICE just to get it right. I could care less about the money i spent if the service was stellar, but unfortunately, it isn't! THERE WAS NO EFFIN WAY I'M GOING TO WALK AROUND LOOKING LIKE THAT ESPECIALLY AT WORK, SO I DIDN'T MIND REPAYING TO GET IT RIGHT THE SECOND TIME THE SAME DAY! BOTTOM LINE, this place use to be a dope spot. To think that i would drive out of my way to get to this place from where i live. Very disappointed and disheartened. I've been giving this place a whole year of chances, but it just didn't get better. Hopefully, management can see my review and make improvements. Went into this place when I first moved to Sherman Oaks because, being from Chicago, I was looking for a traditional, authentic barbershop experience/environment. I thought this place would be good even though the reviews were bad. Was I in for a shock. Like other reviewers said, no acknowledgment when I entered the shop. After waiting about 5 minutes for a barber to come from the back, I told the gentleman who came up front that I needed a cut. He preceded to get a chair ready while asking what I needed. I told him I only needed a razor lining on my beard and he looked at me like he was disappointed. He then went to the back and sent another barber up front to cut me, who spent all his time talking to a chick that was loitering in their lobby. Went in there 09/24/16 cause my regular barber was slammed. Got my cut and when I handed over my Amex...dude tells me it's cash only. I walk next door to withdraw some money from a bank that's not mine so I get hit with that fee just to walk back and notice they have All the credit card logos on their door. Not to mention the $25 charge to buzz my already bald head but hey...if that's what you charge then that's what you charge but don't tell me you take cash only. I'm not even Asian, but I felt bad for a guy who came in for a cut. All talk about the "white man" stops and everything gets quiet. As soon as I walked in, it took a minute or two to get acknowledged with 4 people sitting around. Anyhow, I called prior to coming in and was told cuts are 15$ for students. I was like great, on my way. Got there, I asked if card is accepted, they said I had to go get cash from an ATM. So, got my hair cut. Loved the job. The guy who cut my hair did an AMAZING JOB! However, when it came to paying, I was just going to give an entire 20 seeing as how the 5$ left over would be a great tip. But, my barber said there isn't student discounts. I was like ok, that's fine. Then I told him I only took a 20 from the bank so I can't give him a tip. He was like, oh we can take card. -____- same guy who said I had to go to an ATM. (He was using a square card reader, so they made me go to the bank in order to save themselves from the 2.25% fee -__- It was really inconvenient and not proper customer service. ) Not only that, the process was a little shady because there was a supposed dollar fee for using card. When in actuality they just added that to cover the 2.25% square charges to use the card reader. I work at an electronic retailer and know how that works. So I paid 26$ to have the sides of my hair cut. Never going there again. read more

The most worst place I ever f.. Been too .. He cut my hair .. I can't even explain how ugly and unprofessional it was .. I could've done it better myself .. Tightest Barber Shop in the Valley, Fab and Mike the Barber are great barbers. No matter what type of cut you're looking for, tight-fade, clean up your 'fro, mohawk, design... you name it, these guys are artists. What is best is that they remember who you are, and how you like your hair cut so you never worry every time you sit in their chair that you're going to get the cut you want. FK earned this review some time ago, but I'm just now getting around to it. Here goes... As a relatively new transplant to the west coast, I needed to find a barber that could replace my guy from back home. I tried a place that sounds like the Glade, but they are unorganized, way too busy, and the cuts aren't very good in all honesty. I even once tried a place that sounds like Smotherhood but those dudes are rude, unprofessional, and adept at driving customers away. Then there is Fab Kutz. Remember when Calvin Candy told Dr. King-Shultz the top 5 qualities of a great Mandingo fighter were winning, winning, winning, winning, and winning? At Fab Kutz they take care of the first five elements of any decent barbershop with ease - good cuts, good cuts, good cuts, good cuts, and good cuts. Basically, unlike the Glade, you don't ever have to worry about a sloppy cut. Here are the ratings for the other aspects of the shop: - Professionalism = A If you set an appointment, you will be seen at that time. They believe in this thing called punctuality. The staff is respectful and knows how to interact appropriately with every customer. - Atmosphere = A The place has cool decor, a pool table, TVs, and beverages. While the vibe may come off as a shop targeting a younger demographic, this is definitely a family friendly location (see professionalism above). - Location = A This shop is centrally located in a nice part of the Valley, and be honest, you know you were looking hard for a black barbershop in the valley. Parking can be a bit awkward with the spaces in back, but it's not a real complaint. - Prices = A - Cuts are in the 20s. Given the quality of the cuts and quality of the shop in comparison to their nearest 'competitors', prices are VERY good. - Barbers = A+ One thing I HATE about trying new barbers or some barbers in general is their complete lack of chair-side manner. Some will be cliqued up with the other staff or the shop regulars, can't make a decent conversation, or fail to include you in the shop culture (which is a form of shop culture if you think about it). At Fab Kutz, everyone is made to feel welcome, everyone gets great conversation of varying topics (music, politics, culture, sports, or whatever...), and the vibe is totally relaxed. I normally get a cut from Fab or the seasoned gentleman with the Bernard Hopkins swag from the east coast (Mike, I think).
