Great selection of books and very great value. It does seem heavy on the fiction, but there is a rich variety and it is left-leaning. I was like a kid in a candy store! Staff was friendly but didn't go out of their way to help like they do in most bookstores. Great stop for a visitor that likes non-mainstream, academic sources. It's also a great location for a nice, cozy, well-stocked and well-organized store. They care about the Missoula community and for that this is an obviously valuable resource. This is a fantastic small bookstore in downtown Missoula. We bought a few books from here, along with a few stickers that caught my eye..."Ban the Fascists, Save the Books". Staff was helpful with locating the books we asked for. They have plenty of books marked with various socially inclusive topics. Would definitely recommend this bookstore! read more

As other reviewers have stated, the staff in here is rude and unfriendly and that became apparent on my first time stepping foot in here. For a small, local bookstore I would hope for more but that just is not the case here. The first time I ever visited this store, I had an unpleasant experience. There were a man and woman sitting down behind a small counter each looking down at their cell phones, and never once did they say hello or even give a smile. Instead, I was met with the words "Did you need some help?" in a hasty tone of voice by the woman who was there. The entire experience was awkward and she seemed to be bothered by the fact that I was even in there. Let's just say I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The man never seemed to look up from his phone and as soon as I was handed my receipt, the first thing the woman did was get back on her phone. My second time going in here was pretty much the same thing. The same woman was working when I went in and just as before, she was rude and unpleasant. I'm not sure if she is the owner or not but if she is, she needs a serious lesson in how to treat customers and how to present herself. I wish I could go on and on about great this local little bookstore is but that would not set right in my conscience. The store is small and didn't seem to have much variety, but I'm sure you could easily order what you need. Local or not, I'm sticking with Barnes and Noble. At least there, they know the meaning of customer service and friendliness. read more

An absolute amazing local book store right in the heart of downtown Missoula! We are book junkies and love visiting the local ones when we can find them. Fact & Fiction doesn't disappoint. They have a big section up front of local and near local authors to browse through. Being native midwesterners, we don't know all of the interesting and seldom-told stories of the mountain west. Fact & Fiction's collection of Montana authors helps to shed a light on some of these tales and tell the stories that aren't in the history books (but should be!). Satisfyingly so, they also have a pretty good selection of national best sellers and other "popular" books on their shelves. Their children's section is also well stocked and has plenty for your little ones to chose from. Additionally, they have lots of other literary themed items and whatnots around. Found a great Poe coffee mug that's totally cool! Designed with all of his famous quotes from many of his works. They also had one for Austin, Twain, and others! We happened to be there in a night when they hosted an author reading/visit, which was a great even to attend! A quaint little gathering of fellow book nerds; and a fun time to visit with a local author and talk about her new book! We love this store and would certainly return if/when we pass through town again!! read more

This review is a response to the review from "Don l" below, from Clinton, MT, on 10/09/2020. Yelp doesn't allow for comments on reviews so I am writing a new one. His review is full of falsehoods about how the interaction went down. I am the employee he interacted with, and I am not the owner. Fact & Fiction has many Black Lives Matter posters and BIPOC literature front and center. However, there are no signs about defunding the police. Don and I didn't even speak beyond the greeting we exchange with pretty much all of our customers when they pass our desks. I did not comment on his Trump hat. I did not comment on the slogan he was wearing on his t-shirt. In fact, I didn't comment at all until he started ranting about how "Black Lives Matter is a terrorist organization!" That is when I pointed out that I, as an Indigenous person, feel they are doing great work on behalf of all BIPOC people. Don kept ranting on his way out the door and I asked that he not come back. Since then he has made several crank calls asking for nonexistent books such as, "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" about RBG. He has sent us at least one card, unsigned and with no return address, full of racist propaganda. At Fact & Fiction we are proud of our stance as a safe space for everyone. Don too, but he has to be respectful. He has not shown us any respect, and if his harassment continues it will not be without consequences. read more

Adorable place with vast selection of Fiction and Nonfiction- of all genres. One of my favorite parts about this indie book nook, was the large local representation, highlighting authors from Missoula and around Montana! It narrowed my decision for sure; because when in town, support the locals (right?!). I picked up "The Flood Girls" by Richard Fifield. Really excited to read it when it comes up in my queue. read more

It's an all right bookstore with a great selection of local authors. With that said, if you want to deal with über feminists smugly gossiping in circles while complaining about how someone admittedly didn't mean to offend them yet how that individual (an author) still should apologize more sincerely about their "offensive" stance rather than their intent then well... this the book store for you! I love bookstores where they provide staff recommendations. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to talk to people who've read a book, liked it, and want to tell me why. Amazon can't compare. Fact y Fiction is one of the first bookstores I found when I moved to Missoula, and they keep getting better with age. Today I was in and picked up three new fiction finds as well as a coffee table book about Montana schools. Couldn't be happier. FF is a great mixture of a few classics, lots of new fiction and non-fiction, and little to no used selection--these types of booksellers have typically been the first to shut their doors, so I'm happy to see this place still in the biz. We are always on the lookout for good, independent bookstores. We like the different titles and authors that are displayed, as well as the staff recommendations. This store also had a wide selection of local books (about the area or by local authors). It is not huge, but it has a good selection. If you like book stores, you should definitely stop in. read more
