I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly, and there were a couple email and text message reminders that came through. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist was super friendly and upfront about my insurance coverage and extra charges I may encounter. I really appreciated the transparency. My hygienist also explained some of the areas my insurance wouldn't cover and let me know the cost if I wanted to pay extra for the services, such as oral cancer screening and use of fluoride. She was fantastic and had me walking out feeling clean and refreshed. The whole appointment I felt comfortable (they gave me a blanket to keep me warm and sunglasses to protect my eyes from the light). I had frequent check-ins to make sure I was still feeling alright throughout the appointment. Great service, and I loved the transparency from the staff. There were definitely some opportunities where someone could have recommended upcharge services, which Dr. Lawson mentioned, but he then he was honest when he said I wouldn't need them. Having an honest dentist with a staff that provides excellent service goes far, and Smiles of Bellevue has definitely won over my business!

The day of my appointment I was treated with the upmost care by all of the staff here. Dr. Jiwon examined my teeth and could not have been more friendly. He was also very personable and for someone who hates going to the dentist, it was a painless process. I was able to get a teeth cleaning and exam for an hour and a half where I walked out with some free goodies, which was not provided at my last dental office. At my visit to Issaquah Premier Dental, they took extremely high-resolution photos of my mouth along with standard X-rays. I was then told I had nine cavities, which came as a complete shock. In my entire dental history, I've occasionally been told there were areas to "keep an eye on," but I've never had a dentist abruptly diagnose anything close to that number. During this explanation, I was shown an AI-based tool that had flagged the supposed cavities on the images. The diagnosis appeared to be heavily based on what the software identified, rather than a careful, conservative explanation from the dentist themselves. That made me uncomfortable. I'm not going to a dentist to have a piece of software tell me I need irreversible procedures done to my teeth -- I'm going to a medical professional for their judgment. Immediately after this diagnosis, I was encouraged to enter a payment plan and schedule a series of appointments to address the cavities in batches. The speed and pressure around committing to treatment raised additional red flags for me, so I declined. I recently went to another dentist -- someone with decades of experience whom I trust -- and after a full exam and X-rays, I was told I have zero cavities. That contrast is deeply troubling. If I had followed Issaquah Premier Dental's recommendation, I would have had nine irreversible procedures performed on healthy teeth. Dentistry permanently alters your body, and patients depend on providers to be cautious, conservative, and human-led in their decision-making -- especially when new technology is involved. My periodontist called the office and sent me upstairs to have the filling fixed bc (he said it was not well done) I was still numb from my periodontal procedure so better to fix it now. Dr Wu refused to fix the filling (asked me how I knocked out my own filling-- excuse me, fillings should last more than 3 months and I'm very careful with my teeth) and said she would have preferred to have done the numbing herself. What? Instead I had to take myself and my numb face to another nearby dental clinic to get it fixed so my periodontist could resume the procedure. As someone in a public facing role I was extremely disappointed at the lack of responsibility taken by the office for a poor quality filling.

Bluntly I found Newcastle Dentistry warm and cold. Dr. Rosanna and her dental assistant were the warm aspects. I thought they were great for the little time they saw me. I was a bit surprised to find their x-ray machine was a bit inadequate. The last office I went to was able to x-ray all my teeth. This one's machine was unable to. The dental hygienist was cold. At first she was friendly, even complimented my teeth, but then seemed to become very irritated when I told her I rarely flossed. She went from friendly conversation to being very short and snappish. I also didn't care for the layout. It basically is the assembly line format - a line of chairs separated by dividers. I could hear everything going on around me, all the drilling, all the motors whirling. It did not comfort me. Upon checking out I was reminded how much I missed my old dental office's office staff. They weren't great at anything else but I always left with a cheery goodbye. The receptionist here barely said two words and it was enough that I opted not to schedule a follow up appointment.

I discussed my issues with Dr.Neha (she's awesome btw and great bedside manners) and she was quick, to the point and outlined various treatment options I could choose from. Part that I was impressed with the most was, the flexibility with which the staff and dentist modified the plan of action then and there to fit my need and treated me, instead of cleaning which is what I went in for originally.
