An informal referral was made at the behest of Ratney to manage my issue and receive more immediate advanced care for my issue. I'd give ten stars if I could! Dr.Ryan is an INCREDIBLY skilled dentist. I've had a lot of horrible dental experiences in the past that resulted in some severe trauma & anxiety. I've been to EIGHT different dentists in my adult life and none came even remotely close to Dr.Ryan's level of care - both in terms of patient comfort and skill. Between my husband and I, we've seen him many, many times for some quite complex procedures ranging from multi-appointment crown replacements to fixing other dentist's botched jobs, to wisdom tooth extraction, and everything in between. Here are a few reasons why he's the best of the best: (1) He takes his time and will never rush through a procedure - you'll never have to doubt the integrity of his work. His dedication to patient care in this respect is so above and beyond. On more than one occasion he stayed way late because a procedure was more complex than anticipated, so he just kept at it regardless - because otherwise the results would've been subpar and he wouldn't accept anything less than perfect. I was so grateful for his perseverance and attention to detail. (2) He really listens to you and will patiently answer all your 500+ questions if it helps to alleviate your anxiety & concerns. He'll explain things to you in great detail, tell you about all the ways a procedure can work and try to find the one that you feel most comfortable with. I've never had a dentist spend SO much time talking to me about my concerns! It really makes you feel cared for / cared about. You can tell he's really passionate about what he does and has a wealth of knowledge. (3) All of the procedures I've had with him have been incredibly "comfortable." He's very skilled when it comes to giving the numbing shots. He goes really slow and has little tricks to lessen / distract from the discomfort. He's the first dentist I've been to where there's little to no pain during the shots - every single time! Additionally, I really like that he talks you through each procedure step by step and will tell you how much longer it will be. Also, this might be a dumb thing to rave about, but I personally love it - he is really chatty during his procedures and he's funny AF! It really distracts you from what's happening and helps you to relax. It makes everything seem to go by quicker. Finally, I love it that he's always checking in with you to make sure you're still doing ok. It's all these little things put together that go a long way towards alleviating dental anxiety and making the experience as pleasant as possible. (4) I really like it that he's all about preventative care. He'll spend a lot of time talking to you about this and giving you tips/advice. It's a really refreshing perspective and one that I haven't encountered before in a dentist. This aligns with my overall healthcare goals, so it's an added bonus that I wasn't expecting! (5) Lastly, I like that he's very upfront and transparent about his pricing/costs. As he's recommending a treatment, he'll tell you if it'll be a little more and explain to you why it costs more (it's more complex, they have to do an additional thing, etc.). I never once felt like he was up-charging or price gouging. All of his pricing practices make total sense especially given how much time/effort/care he puts into his procedures. I never thought I'd be someone who'd joyfully walk into a dental office, but Dr.Ryan has pretty much helped eradicate all my dental anxiety. At its worst, I had to take heavy sedatives prior to appointments - otherwise they would result in severe panic attacks. So I've come a long way and I owe it all to Dr.Ryan. As a patient for the past 13+ years, there's never been an instance where I've dreaded visiting Dr. Chiang for my routine (every 6 months) cleaning, wisdom teeth removal and cavity maintenance. Major kudos to all the staff for their professionalism and high quality care leveraging some of the latest technology including those implemented during the pandemic. There's been instances where I've been very impressed with the none to minimal pain experienced during and post wisdom teeth removal as well as not needing any local anesthesia when getting a smaller cavity refilled. I believe that speaks volumes with Dr. Chiang's expertise and communication as he verbally shared what action was being performed each step of the way to ensure his patient remained comfortable throughout the process. It's a plus when he shares the same values such as being proactive and taking care of any potential issues before they become a larger one. There is a 48-hour cancellation notice requirement to avoid any charges, which makes sense. There is a decent sized parking lot conveniently right in front. The location was super convenient previously when I worked in the office, but even as a remote employee, I still very much look forward to driving ~ 30 miles total round-trip just for my dental appointments. There's a super strict 48 hour rescheduling or cancellation policy. Even when you call in to reschedule an appointment when you are sick, $100 will be charged. Overrated and just ok based on multiple visits. Dr. Ryan's arrogance and billing practices made me switch to another Bellevue dentist that I've been happier with. I wanted to share my honest review to counterpoint all the 5 star reviews that I really don't understand. The main reasons why I switched from this practice: - Dr. Ryan displayed an arrogant attitude during my multiple visits but he's at best average compared to the many dentists I've been to. - Dr. Ryan sometimes engages in non professional talk that's unwanted. It's ok to ask about a patient's family or job, but if they don't respond, respect that they may not want your advice about non dental subjects. - Non industry standard billing. I'm not sure why, but Bellevue dental arts insists on an extra $10 charge that insurance doesn't cover and no previous dentists I've been to or my new Bellevue dentist has charged. $10 isn't relatively a lot of money, but when I asked about the charge and whether I could skip the extra spray it's apparently for, the staff got defensive about it. I honestly just don't like the feeling that this office is trying to shill people out of extra money. read more

I come here every six months for a teeth cleaning and the staff are all very polite and kind people. The dental hygienists are very thorough when cleaning your teeth, but they are also conscientious about your mouth while doing so. Both Dr. Chiang's are very knowledgeable with their craft, and Dr. Ryan Chiang helped me discover that I needed orthodontic work for functional purposes. This has been helping me relieve a lot of the neck pain I was experiencing in the past due to overexerting my jaw muscles while chewing. Top dentist with artistic style and golden heart! A team that is truly caring! I broke two front teeth after falling hard on the concrete ground. I found Dr. Chiang's 5 star Yelp Review. Front desk sounded really concerned and checked with Dr. Chiang to see the possibility of seeing me the same day which I didn't expect given how well reviewed they are on Yelp. One to two weeks was my guess. To my pleasant surprise and relief, Dr. Chiang made an effort to see me in the afternoon. I was pretty upset with myself - the careless rush in the rain caused a hard fall that broke my teeth, never thought it would happen to me. From the first phone call, to walking into the office, to being checked in by Dr. Chiang's assistant Meagan, I felt that everyone is so caring and that calms me down. Sitting there, I was drawn right away to the incredible photography Dr. Chiang created. He is such a great artist: his landscape work is art! I firmly believe the artwork reveals the soul of the creator. He has such a fine taste of color and is a master of light. Seeing his work soothes one's heart. Dr. Chiang came in to see me, he give me a concise assessment and recommended the immediate action plan and long term view. He had a full schedule day, but he said this to me: "I wanted to treat you just like how I would like to be treated if it happened to me". He is fully booked 2-3 months in advance! I could not believe that my broken teeth can be fixed today. At the end of his work day, as everyone was leaving, Dr. Chiang and Meagan started working to rebuild by teeth. He communicated at every step, clear and concise, making me feel very comfortable. He was discussing with Meagan on how he can overcome some obstacles to make the teeth look perfect: as natural as possible. Two hours later, my two broken front teeth were restored perfectly just like nothing happened. Sitting there, I could not express my gratitude enough, and could not believe how quickly Dr. Chiang helped me. After I returned home, 7pm, Dr. Chiang called me from his personal phone to check on me - he has such a kind heart! If you want to seek a top dentist who values his work, cares about his client, and has a likewise team, look no further than Bellevue Dental Arts, Dr. Ryan Chiang. I've been Dr Ryan Chiang's patient for over 5 years. My first encounter was due to a bad toothache and his staff went above and beyond to fit me in as a new patient despite a very busy schedule. My care has been outstanding through all of these years. I have a poor dental background, and Dr Chiang has always offered the best and necessary treatment, without trying to treat every single imperfection for financial benefit. His model is to have you as a patient for many years and provide his medical expertise so you can make the decision that that fits your current needs and priorities. It's worth to mention that Dr Chiang takes time to educate you on current research, risks and treatment options, so you don't feel lost in dental terms and procedures. He continues to learn and advance despite being so skillful already. The same applies to his staff. After so many years I feel like I know every employee since they are happy at BDA and choose to stay with this practice for many years. Same high standards apply to them and they frequently attend trainings and conferences to stay up to date with forever evolving science. I feel lucky to be a patient at BDA and have always been treated like family (so are other patients since you can hear Dr Chiang's charming bedside manner with others in the dental chair next door). I have been coming here since I can remember, when it was just Dr. Norman. I had Lisa as my dental hygienist for as long as I can remember, but from what I remember, she wasn't the most empathetic or considerate, in my opinion. When I asked my mom (as a kid) if I could see someone else, she told me no. But I will say, that when I was 18, Lisa was the one who discovered a lump in my neck, and later, discovered I had a tumor! Without her thoroughness, I don't know when I would have noticed. But when I was able to make my own decisions (YAY) I switched hygienists to Jill, and I love her!! She's super sweet, and we just chat about life. But as time went on, my teeth somehow decayed at a surprisingly high rate. As of now, I probably have like 15 fillings (!!) and recently got my first crown :( ALSO, I have special toothpaste ($20 per tube) to use after my regular brushes!!! Let me just say, I never knew how much fillings costed until I had to start paying myself! I have gotten many fillings with Dr. Norman, and since I had nothing to compare to, I just went along with the pain. Over the past couple years, Norman's son, Ryan, has been slowly taking over the business, and personally, he's easier to talk to and ask questions about my teeth, albeit, with our sarcastic banter, but I come out of my appointments knowing what I need to do moving forward. When it came to fillings, I'm not sure what is done differently, but they're not as painful with Ryan. He There was one day where I was the only patient left in the office with the staff, and we turned on a Disney station and just had a mini karaoke sesh in the office! The delivery guy that walked in was confused haha. Scheduling is now easy, with text reminders, and you can always email their front desk, which makes things easy for me when I'm at work. read more

Dr. Ryan Chiang is easily the best dentist I've ever had. Even better, his entire team is knowledgeable, kind, and prone to a sort of quirky humor that really puts me at ease. I'm not joking when I say I would think long and hard about leaving Seattle, just because it would mean I'd be leaving behind Bellevue Dental Arts. I should preface the details of this review with a couple of facts: (1) I had a really frightening dental experience as a child: think creepy dentist from a 1970s exploitation horror flick. As an adult, I'm mentally over that, but my body isn't. Every dental appointment is a physically exhausting event for me. While it happens less often now that I go to BDA, it still isn't too unusual for me to have to go home and crash after an appointment. (2) I have the worst genes. One side of the family is absurdly prone to cavities, the other to teeth breakage. I've experienced a life of both. (Thanks so much, evolution.) I have enough fillings, root canals, and crowns that I am basically a walking testament to modern science. One hundred or so years ago, I would have been toothless at 28, no doubt about it. In other words, I'm maybe not a run-of-the-mill patient. With that in mind... =============== DR. CHIANG & CO. =============== There are technically two Dr. Chiangs at BDA -- Dr. Norman (father) and Dr. Ryan (son) -- but Dr. Ryan is who you're most likely to see nowadays, I believe. The torch doesn't always get passed down well between generations, but you can tell it has here. Dr. Ryan obviously loves what he does, from dealing with patients, to continuing his education and coming up with creative solutions for weird and complex dental problems. If you want to know more about the science of dentistry and what the hell is being done to your mouth, he's always happy to share. You can tell he nerds out on this stuff, which I personally find comforting. I'm probably far from a "normal" patient, but this is never held against me at BDA, as it has been in some dental offices; no one acts like flossing, which I already do, and a mouth rinse, which I already use, will miraculously solve my problems. Dr. Ryan and his team are conscious of my prior history, accept what they must, and do what they can to keep my teeth from falling out of my head. There is a whole action plan. You really get the feeling that no one is a lost cause here, and the best job will be done, no matter what the job entails. Everyone at BDA is a perfectionist who cares about the little things, like how natural a new filling or crown feels when you bite down on it. Some past dental work that I paid dearly for left me feeling as though my teeth were a cobbled-together mess, but everything done at BDA feels like a better version of my real teeth. If you're looking for a "gentle" experience, this is where you need to go. As an adult, I've sought out dentists who promise to be gentle, but some have obviously thought a little too highly of themselves and have not made good on that promise. Dr. Ryan takes everything slowly and does all he can to make anything unpleasant more bearable (e.g., he counts down how long a shot will take and tells you when you'll "feel a pinch" -- I'm always impressed by this!). He's the only dentist I've been to where, once I got to know him, I no longer felt the need to use nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") during a procedure. This is big for me, as in the past I've needed nitrous even for routine cleanings. I'm no cool cucumber, even with Dr. Ryan, but dental work is not quite so physically exhausting for me thanks to BDA. =============== PRICING =============== I've been to relatively inexpensive rural dentists and top-of-the-line dentists in cities. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and other times, you get something better or worse than you expected. I would call Dr. Chiang's pricing quite reasonable for the area and certainly for the quality of work. He is not the cheapest, but I definitely wouldn't call him the most expensive, either. I have paid more for dental work, and gotten less for my dollars, in the past. It's worth mentioning that BDA has payment plans and an in-house insurance plan. For $400/yr (plus $300/yr for each family member), you get two cleanings, annual X-rays, and a percentage off each bill. (BDA's website doesn't seem to mention this anymore, so you may need to ask about it.) This is valuable for those who have many dental concerns, but poor dental insurance, and those who, like me, are self-employed scum who pay for nearly everything out of pocket. =============== TL;DR =============== BDA is very, very good. From my first cleaning to my dreaded wisdom teeth removal, everything has always exceeded my expectations. Due to a change in insurance, I recently switched dentists and due to MANY recommendations, I decided to give Bellevue Dental Arts a try and boy, am I glad I did! I cannot say enough great things about both doctors, the practice, and their staff. The Doctors / hygienists: My first visit was with Ryan Chiang and from the moment I sat in the chair I knew I was in good hands. He really took the time to not only get to know my teeth and my past dental history but also took the time to get to know me and my lifestyle. I mention to Dr. Chiang what my past dentist had suggested and he very kindly explained why those suggestions may not suite me the best. Which made me feel like Dr. Chiang really does have my best interests in mind and wasn't just looking to make extra money. I mentioned suffering from tension headaches and he was able to suggest multiple different solutions to that issue as was not going to give up until he found something that best worked for me. Visit number two was with Dr. Norman Chiang. He was kind, efficient , and a blast to visit with. I had the pleasure of having Jill as my hygienist for both visits. I LOVE Jill! She is FAST, gentle and does a great job. Due to pregnancy, my gums were a little extra sensitive on my last visit and she did a GREAT job. I always leave with clean and sparkling teeth! The Practice: While the office is in an older business park, you would have NO IDEA once you got inside. The office is modern, clean, comfortable, and has the best magazine selection! Totally agree with every positive thing that everyone said in other feedback posts about how intelligent, talented Dr. Ryan Chiang is and how pleasant it is to deal with him and his staff. I cringe at the thought of a dental office visit. A friend who works in the dental industry and does business with Dr. Ryan recommended him to me to have a pit of wisdom teeth extracted. When I met Dr. Ryan I immediately felt comfortable and at ease; he didn't give off a vibe like I'm just another customer that he's trying to close a deal and sell every option in the process. Him and his staff are very friendly, personable and easy to work with. The procedure was difficult with my impacted teeth and he handled it like a pro! I've been a patient of Dr. Chiang's my whole life and I've never had a cavity which is a huge testament to his practice given the copious amounts of junk food and pop I consumed growing up. I'm really pleased with this dental office. My sons first dental experience was actually awful. At a DIFFERENT dentist when he was only 2 he ended up with a horrible mouth infection, high fever and several rounds of antibiotics. Fast forward he is now 4 1/2 and he came to Bellevue dental arts for his second exam, no surprise after that long he had 8 cavities . Naturally I was very nervous to take him to another dentist. The Dr. and hygienists are so knowledgeable and wonderful with my son. He is not scared or nervous at all and they explain things to him on his level. They have a tv there so he can watch cartoons while he is being worked on. They gave me great tips on caring for his teeth as well. The other staff worked so well with me and helped me with a payment plan as I have to pay out of pocket for all 8 they were helpful and kind. Really personable. Dr. Ryan is a wonderful dentist who works well with the entire family. He treats my 81 year old father, myself, my husband and my teen. He recently removed my son's wisdom teeth and my son had a good experience. Dr. Ryan specifically reached out to my husband and myself about how to make my son's healing a good process but also openly addressed the recent debate about the overuse of dental prescriptions of opoids. He stays up on the latest medical information and treats more than just our teeth. The office looks for mouth cancers, gum disease, and check for your overall health. This is a great place to have your dental work done. I got Jr. and he was fantastic. He also had s bit of humor to make the visit as easy as possible. He did great! Very nice people, funny and able to cope with the remnants of me trying to extract my own tooth without Novocain. They explained every aspect of the procedures and made me feel like family.
