Fado has the warm, welcoming look and feel of a great Irish pub. The staff were all amazing and a delight to talk with. The manager even summoned us back in from the rain when we were ready to leave and welcomed us to sit back down until the downpour passed. The food was absolutely amazing! The shepherds pie was honestly the best I've ever had with its rich, thick meat filling and hearty mashed potatoes. My husband and our friends each ordered the fish and chips and finished their plates. My very favorite bite though was the smoked salmon appetizers. We were looking for a casual spot for a late lunch and decided to check out Fado. Fado turned out to be more of a bar/pub than a bar/restaurant, but Fado delivered great food and drinks. Everyone left happy! We had fish and chips, a salmon bowl, and a raspberry cocktail and a couple of local tap beers. Service was laid back but professional and prompt. The bar and dining area are pretty much one in the same but that was no problem. The fish and chips were not greasy and portions were big, and the salmon was nicely done. Tasty and not over or under cooked. As Goldilocks would say, "Just right!" Like I said this seems more like a pub than a restaurant, but that fits the bill if you want a laid-back, low-key, lunch or dinner. I'd happily return to Fado when in the area! read more

I came here for happy hour on a Friday. It was easy to get a table and there was plenty of room at the bar. Our server was wonderful at the table. He was prompt and attentive. We ordered the corned beef rolls, stuffed cheese puffs, smoked salmon bites, burger, boxty with cheese, and the bread pudding. Everything tasted amazing. I love how their menu is unique from other bars. Definitely don't sleep on the boxty as it's so hard to find at a pub here in Chicago. 1st time-Stopped in Saturday around 6pm with a friend for football food and beer. Clare was our waitress and she was fantastic. Very friendly attentive and thorough. I like when Yelp asks me, "Do you recommend this business?" It's a pub, what do you think my answer is going to be? Here's a tip: it will never be, "Aw, geez, they had too much beer there for me." I stopped into this nice corner pub on a weekday evening while I was walking from my convention hotel to the hotel where I was staying. I like to try out pubs, and this one was no disappointment. They had Smiddicks on tap, so you can't go wrong there. I sat at the bar and it was not too crowded. Maybe the big crowd comes out later in downtown. I had some bar food and it was good. The server was excellent and engaged with everyone who wanted to talk. He gave great advice to people who asked about other places and was very inviting. Inside, this was a great, classic, Irish Pub. In regards to Irish cuisine, there are a few guiding principles I follow: 1) an Irish breakfast (or full English) is the best way to start the day. 2) the only thing that beats a crisp, cold pint of Guinness... is a pint of Jameson. Came to Fado to watch some good old fashioned footy (six nations is going on). It's your CLASSIC Irish bar. Having been here before, I knew the Irish coffee was good so I got a glass. By god that drink does coffee justice. The head on it is so thicccc I almost caught feelings. I also had the full Irish breakfast. I generally consider Colombian sausage to be the best in the world, however the little sausages they served me were absolutely delicious. Black pudding in general isn't necessarily my fancy (I prefer my oats without blood), but the seasoning was PHENOMENAL. I appreciate the staff letting me hang out to watch rugby all morning. I intend on coming back for more games, and may bring my teammates. I'll probably be eating more Irish food in general too. Hopefully it'll make me as handsome as Cilian Murphy. read more

She had the corned beef and cabbage, said the corned beef was very tasty, the cabbage, potatoes and carrots, were a bit undercooked. Comes with a Guinness mustard sauce that was tasty. A good sized portion was served. I had the short rib ragu that could have been much warmer, and the carrots cooked a bit longer. Thus the 3 stars. It had good flavor and the portion was plentiful. They were playing a rugby and football game so it was very lively and fun environment. I had a couple bloody Mary's (which were on special for 10 bucks if I'm not mistaken). My friend had old fashions, and my husband went with Moscow mules. All delicious and well made. I got the corned beef hash and damnnnnn was it good. VERY filling and rich, and perfectly shareable. By friend got the breakfast sandwich which he loved and hubs got the chicken tenders. All super hot and great. We sat at the bar, and some bartenders were definitely more attentive than others lol but overall I can not complain. I didn't take any pictures of food bc I got distracted lol. It's your typical Irish pub with a dive bar vibe, but I was disappointed to sit at the bar for about 10-15 minutes without being acknowledged. Having fond memories from years past, I returned to Fadó for dinner and a beer. I ordered the shepherds pie. It was served to me cold. When I brought it to the waiter's attention, after several minutes, he eventually picked it up and took it back. When it was returned to me, the dish had been thrown in the oven and baked to a crisp. After about two bites, I gave up. The beer was flat. I paid the bill in full (no discount for the incompetence) and gave a 1% tip. I will not eat/drink there again. read more

I came to Fado to watch a Copa America game on a Monday night. The atmosphere was pretty exciting and it's clear that this is a good soccer bar. The service was slow at times but I understand it was pretty crowded, especially for a Monday in July. The drink prices were alright. We stopped here for quick drinks before heading to a show across town since it was steps from our hotel. the inside is a really neat space. We were told to seat ourselves upon entering and we went to the upstairs bar in hopes it would be less busy. It was, but at the cost of b-team bartenders lol. It was quite the ordeal trying to figure out if they had Jäegermeister and then they had to confer on how to make a jäegerbomb. My mule tasted like something was rancid. Luckily, my friend's whiskey and coke was normal because that's as easy as it gets. I'm told this was an off experience because my friend's dad comes here often and enjoys himself. Love Fado's! Watching soccer matches at Fados is unbeatable. The atmosphere is electric with many fans supporting their teams in their jerseys and other merch. There are two places I'd ever watch the world cup, one is at home in France somewhere at a local pub or right here at Fado in towndown Chicago. Fado means business when it comes to footall/soccer. They not only open up earlier than the times indicated on Google and yelp for special matches, but they have the greatest game day atmosphere outside of an in-stadium experience. Staff is family, drinks are decently priced with a great on tap collection and food...i will come back to you on that. But they have food to soak up that Guinness on tap don't you worry - it's just been my personal preference to stay dehydrated and unfed while drinking Guinness. So if you want a fun time, good drinks and likely decent food on a game day (or non game day), head to Fado. If you wanna have a terrible time, bad drinks and subpar food, don't go there. Truly get so homesick during the world cup and a huge shout-out to this bar for making up for 4000-plus-miles that seperate me and my home atmosphere. Tip: Make sure to come well in advance any big soccer matches or events or call ahead to ask for a suggested time of arrival. They get to capacity quickly and will not let you in of so. read more
