I'm a local New Orleans resident, for the last 6 years or so, and I intend to stay. I work as a bartender. I've been to Fahy's a few times for drinks and pool with local friends in the last year or two. Generally great prices and people. However, I came by last night, Sunday, April 26th, 2026, for pool on my own for the first time as a lone woman, around dusk. The earlier bartender when I arrived was a nice, attentive gentleman I've seen before who knew his stuff and handled things! I warmed up on the pool table, and then played my first pool game with a man who, unfortunately, got very aggressive in his speech with me, suggesting things like "women need to bend to men like good females should on the pool table", accused me of cheating, and then uncomfortably questioned me about dating unrelated men I did not know there who were playing on the second pool table. The hostility disturbed me, but I finished our pool game, in which I lost in fairness, and then he refused to shake hands, be cordial, and continued to cause a scene interpersonally around the tables. I would love for problems to have ended there. But... I left the pool tables concerned after this encounter, while he lingered, and I tried to talk with the new bartender who started the late shift a bit after, a young woman with long dark hair, who started bartending around 8 or 9pm. I tried to tell her, at the edge of the bar alone, as I ordered another drink, that there might be an aggressive man over by the tables, and I just wanted to say that, in my own words to her-- to the bartender in charge, on record PRIVATELY, woman to woman , in case he kept being aggressive with me-- that this might continue to be a problem, and that I hoped he wouldn't keep being weird with me, because I wanted to stay and keep drinking and playing pool with others respectfully. The bartender did not listen to my concern about a what happened with any basic neutrality or professionalism. She cut me off loudly at first, and yelled, "DO YOU WANT ME TO CALL YOU A CAB???" -- with zero awareness, as if I was some dumb drunk tourist lost from Jazz Fest, and despite me being a local resident with my own transportation, and with a bar tab still open. What's worse, at this same time, there was a man sitting at the bar next to me, who was more of a regular at Fahy's than me apparently, who overheard my one-on-one disclosure to the bartender. This second man interjected on my private conversation, and condescendingly accused me of lying as a woman making up a "problems" at "his bar". The bartender uncritically accepted this intrusion on my conversation. She further encouraged more of this "local" customer group to gang up on me, belittle me, and to physically get in my face as a lone woman for attempting to privately complain about unacceptable male behavior, while the bartender claimed, "that's my regulars", suggesting that I was the problem and that I needed to leave. I did not want any further attention from others over the issue, and yet she unprofessionally encouraged other patrons to interact with me when I was concerned. Are bartenders supposed to escalate violent "mob mentality" behavior with their customers to protect one creepy drunk? Is this an appropriate standard for a bar, and as if New Orleans businesses should function as high school popularity contests with a teenage level of maturity while intoxicated? Again, as a bartender and professional myself, I know how to handle and mediate a private complaint, and Fahy's staff this last Sunday night showed the absolute worst way such a situation could have been handled. The bartender in the later hours had absolutely no professionalism nor discretion with my concern for misogynistic behavior that concerned me as a woman, and which I tried to keep private, and in which I wanted to not disturb her bar in general. I really hope other bartenders here don't handle patrons' concerns in such a dangerously dismissive manner. The point is, bars with pool tables will attract problems. It's up to a bar's management if they're capable of being responsible for it and maintaining a respectful culture for all. As a local who used to recommend friends to swing by Fahy's as a rare, relatable, and reliable dive bar in the quarter, I will not do so again. Why would I spend my hard earned money again, or tell others to, in such an unsafe, rude environment? Fahy's needs to get its bartenders and security tight because what I experienced as a female local pool lover and drinker was NOT OKAY. read more

This is NOT an Irish Pub be any sort of standard. Wife and I stopped here for a drink. The place is run down. Ordered two mixed drinks. Both were flat with no carbonation. Told the waitress. She said she would look at it after serving 6 people that came in. We sat there for some time. We watched as she rubbed all over a dog then grabbed a can of beer and popped the top without washing her hands. After another 15 minutes my wife and I left, bill paid, no offer of any kind made. If you want a dingy bar, unclean bartender, and flat drinks, this is the place for you. read more

This is a little pub selling a good selection of beers. I don't think there is food so eat before you arrive. Make sure you have your drinking goggles on. If you're in the mood for a game of stick (pool) then you'll enjoy a fairly fast table with some of the rubbishy of sticks on the market. You just have to be better than the table! read more

St. Patrick's Day at Fahy's Irish Pub seemed to be more than fate. It was fun. On an annual date destined for day drinking, we celebrated finding Fahy's with a few local draft beers and a couple shots of Jameson ,,, which are just $5 every day, all day, 365 days a year at Fahy's. Top o' the afternoon to ya! The fun was enhanced by drinking the legendary Irish whiskey from shot glasses attached to bright green strands of beads around our necks AND cool shamrock shades over our baby-green eyes. If this wasn't a New Orleans tradition for St. Patrick's Day, it is now. Reminds me of that old Irish saying: "May you have all the whiskey and luck that a cup can hold and at the end of your rainbows may you find a pot of beads." Fay's Irish Pub is a cozy neighborhood dive bar. It's not a place to order cocktails. You order drinks ... and then casually drink them while eagerly joining in (or quietly ignoring) conversations of nearby drinkers around the bar. Huh. I'm surprised that I don't already have review for this mostly locals bar in the FQ. I've met friends here many times over the years. And it's a chill place to hang out with friends and relax and have a few beers or whatever. This is not the place to order a fancy cocktail but their basic mixed drinks are strong and you'll live. There is a pool table. Do not sit on it. Also do not put your drink on the edge. You will get fussed at. Don't annoy the bartenders. And you'll have fun. read more

This little out of the way bar was delightful. The barmaid was awesome. There are pool tables and darts and TV and everyone was having a good time. I asked for a cup of coffee with a shot of Bailey. She said no problem and brewed a fresh pot of coffee and before I knew it I had a mug in front of me and it was great. Just like I was in Ireland. I was able to relax and dread our trip home tomorrow. Prices were exceptional! This was a typical neighborhood bar that was very comfortable and inviting. read more

Nice little bar that we stopped in before heading home. What a treat. I say treat because it made me think of 'Cheers'; not many places like that still exist. The lady at the door cards everyone, old, young, tall, short, red, blue, pink and the like. I ordered an IRISH CAR BOMB, but was told this wasn't available. I questioned why & the bartender said it was offensive; he made a correlation to ordering a TWIN TOWERS in New York sooooo I apologized then asked him to make me something good. In New Orleans more than any other city, appearances are deceiving. This city is an old city with some buildings dating back to the early 1800's. What looks like an unappealing building may in fact be a refuge for one's soul. Fahy's is such a place. It is non-descript and unassuming from the exterior but once you venture inside it is a place where you will end up spending a few hours without even noticing the time. The walls and ceiling are decorated and have cool items such as trophies on the wall and posters on the ceiling. I also like the Christmas lights all over the bar. This isn't one of them modern fru fru bars. This is a classic bar that doesn't change much (if at all) through the years. The pool tables that are here will still be here 10 yrs from now. The cheap drinks will still be cheap when I am 60 yrs old sitting at the bar. Yup, this is a bar with staying power. You will always find more regulars here than tourists even though it is only two blocks from Bourbon Street. Pretty doesn't last. Try keeping that shiny new car looking like new (believe me I've tried hard with every vehicle I have ever owned). You can probably keep it up for a few months or even a yr or two but eventually the dreaded ding or scratch happens. After that you lose hope with trying to keep it perfect. Fahy's is like our cars after 5 yrs of use. It is still steady and reliable and now you have an emotional attachment to it that you didn't have when you first got her. Fahy's is a bar that I feel attached to. I love it here moreso now that when I first came here. It is a place where memories are made! read more

I don't understand out-of-towners' ideas about dive bars. This is New Orleans, so everything's a little older, and covered with a layer of, er, nostalgia that passes as dirt elsewhere. If you're looking around Fahy's and you think it's a dive bar, that's because your over-achieving midwestern work ethic is kicked into high gear, and you're listening to the grandpa in your mind saying, "these people should get out that broom and be productive." They are productive. They're working on keeping the French Quarter Pool League trophy at home. And working on making sure the Guinness is served most properly. And working on getting ready for the Saints game. They're planning their costumes for the next festival or parade. You can't judge Fahy's by Des Moines standards. It's really not a dive bar - it's a local bar in a historic district, like Cheers. Especially for dogs. read more

Its most definitely not your typical bar in the neighborhood, but that's what makes it so awesome! The bartender was a transplant from Cali, so I got to talk Cali talk with him. That was nice! I drank MInd Erasers with one of the owners, she can definitely hold those down, like no other lady I've ever met! A locals bar, that was low key, chill and not snobby! On Friday nights it doubles as a gay bar and the vibe can change on a moments notice. The drinks are good, the beer is cold and they have cider on draft which is a plus for me. Often, tourists will ask me where to get the best bloody mary in the Quarter. Until a few months ago, I didn't really know. Then, one day I wandered into Fahy's, where my usual drink is the $2.25 draft, and asked Katie, the bartender/owner, how her bloodies were. She proceeded to show me. Now, when asked that question, I can answer definitively, "Fahy's, dude!" As Katie has pointed out to me on a couple of occasions since, she personally doesn't even care much for bloody marys. No matter, because she sure can make them. As many here have noted, the clientele is mostly local 30/40somethings that have long since outgrown the Bourbon St. mania, and just want to have drinks with old friends. Those shouldn't be hard for most of them to find, as the same people are usually in here day in & day out. (Don't these people work?) While some of the more adventurous tourists occassionally find their way here, the low-key ambience makes sure that this bar will not be taken over by fishbowl-toting frat types anytime soon. This is also my favorite bar for sitting in a corner watching tennis on the TVs as they always accomodate me. The bartenders have all been here for years and are fantastic at what they do and very friendly. If you want to make fast friends with Robert, ask him to recommend some Irish whiskeys. He'll keep you entertained for hours. On a sad note, Katie recently informed me that Gleason, the beloved canine mascot, has retired. However, there are usually still plenty of puppies on the premises, which I love. If I lived about a mile closer to this bar, I'd probably be in here far too much with my dogs. If I ever achieve my hope of opening a dog-friendly bar in the back of the Marigny, this bar will be my primary model. read more

Although I would like to not think of myself as a tourist in New Orleans the cold hard fact is that I am. How many times have you walked into a bar in a city that was not yours, or for that matter in your city and sat quietly unwelcomed. Fahey's is not that bar. Katie, beautiful Katie...what a great host. She is lovely, friendly and generous a great and congenial bar owner who is so happy to have you there.
