This place wasn't packed, even on a weekend night. We stopped by this place taking one of the local ghost tours at night. What you will notice is the thing that is most exciting about this place isn't the ghost stories, not the drinks, not the staff, but it is the bathroom door. Yep, the bathroom door. Here it is, and it looks like a bookshelf. You can see about the 3rd row down, there is a space where you can see a stick figure sideways, and that is the handle to the bathroom. Pretty cute. It might be divey but it's clean, the bartenders are good and friendly and the drinks are cheap (at least for this PNW babe!) Definitely be back for those $5 Stella bottles. Went to Toulouse on 1/17 in the afternoon as it was recommended as a metal bar with a pool table. Paid to play metal songs available in the classic jukebox only to have the bartender skip all of them because I was "killing the vibe." Pool sticks were jenky & need replaced. Won't return. read more

To us, this was your basic dive bar with a bartender that didn't want to be there. She served us drinks and all that but was definitely not friendly and welcoming. She probably got the vibe that we were tourists and didn't want anything to be a part of it. They did have a pool table but we just weren't enticed to stay. A one and done for us. read more

I thought my days of dive bars were actually over and then I crossed the threshold of Toulouse Dive Bar and now I'm not so sure that's accurate. They had me at Prosecco. A dive bar that has perfectly cold, decently dry Prosecco? Yeah, I can hang. The vibe in here is very old school French Quarter dive. You'd think there were tons of them, but actually many have been closing over the years and as much as I love me a bougie wine bar, you can't have the FQ w/o dives. You just can't. They are the old standard, with their no nonsense but typically friendly bartenders behind the stick and decent music blaring from the jukebox. You're compelled to sit at the bar and be a part of whatever is going on (not the usual for me, but you get where I'm going with this). The only reason I don't give Toulouse Dive is 5 stars is that horror show of a bathroom. They get an A for concept (hidden behind a bookcase to keep the Bourbon Street drunks from parading in just to use it), but it's a damn hell hole. I actually couldn't bring myself to use it when I saw a puddle surrounding a filthy toilet. That's when I run kicking and screaming out of a dive bar. read more

So I typically only visit this bar during Carnival time. Its like a hidden gem less than a few yards off of Bourbon Street. Rarely is it busting at the seams with tourist even though it is soo close. Might be because its kinda sketchy looking. Maybe its the jukebox selection. Pretty much only metal. Maybe its because the bathrooms are hidden behind a bookcase and the new folks walk out in embarrassment? Either way it s my go to on Lundi Gras for a few quick drinks with friends. Great for people watching too. The bartenders, I have only seen two, are cool chicks. I look forward to chatting with either one. I know they aren't the easiest to talk too in the beginning but that is my talent. Climbing the personality wall and making someone laugh. The crowd is metalish type locals. Visited this bar first during our Labor Day/my bday weekend trip. Realized quickly how strong NOLA drinks are. I loved the jukebox and song selections. The bartender (Zoey?) was really sweet and hooked us up with a dinner suggestion which ended up being awesome. (Follow me on Yelp, and you'll see which one) The bar used to be apart of The Dungeon but they decided to seperate them into 2 bars. This one was nice, it wasnt very busy. Literally the most disrespectful, irrational, and dishonest bartender I have ever met, and I managed 5 bars for 7.5 years. I was at Toulouse the night of 2/12/23 (so the owners know who I am talking about, because she is losing you money). This could be a cool fun place, great potential, but when your bartender is charging $17/well drink and the bar is empty while your neighbors bars are full, there is a poison that y'all are just going to have to cut out. I saw more arguments in the 15 minutes I was in your bar than I have ever seen in all my years visiting NOLA combined, and they were all your bartender yelling at patrons. read more

We visited this establishment on 8.26.23 with intentions to see the library bathroom this place is known for. Turns out the bathroom was out of order with a sign reading "Out of Order. See Bartender." Totally fine! We were not upset (how could you be?). We decided to stay and have a drink. I was curious to know the story behind this library bathroom and when I asked the bartender, she screamed at me stating "can't you read the sign?" The screaming continued for a good minute and the whole bar was staring at me. To say I was humiliated is a complete understatement. I come from 10 years of experience in the restaurant industry and would NEVER treat a patron this way. What a great little place!! Stumbled in after walking around the Vieux Carre, needing to just sit and relax. Don't let the wall of scull mirrors deter you. Embrace it and take a seat at the bar next to the open window, order a Bloody Mary (one of the best I've ever had!) and watch the people stroll by. Also one of the few places that still allow smoking inside. They do not serve food, FYI. Our bartender Ainsley always took GREAT care of us, seemed like she was there a lot! Lol. Toulouse definitely fits the description of what a dive bar is suppose to look like and offer. The whole unglamorous hole in a wall type of vibe yeah they give that but with a twist. I thought the whole décor of being in like an old style home/library was kind of neat. While bar hopping in the French Quarters my friends and I stopped in on a Friday night and it was actually packed. The great thing about this place was that we really didn't have to wait very long for service at the bar. Like most of the dive bars they priced the drinks appropriately for the location I would say. But then again I wasn't all that sober so the prices were never an issue.. until you log in the next morning to your bank account lol which is another story.
