It's a dive bar - if you like that vibe, great. I struggled to find a decent, validating piece of this bar. Yet, it seems quite popular with locals and was fairly full for a Tuesday Trivia Night. I ordered a Pimm's cup since Pimm's was on the shelf - the bartender looked confused and told me they don't have any of the ingredients to make one. I changed my order to a flavored vodka - they don't stock any. I ended up ordering a Vodka & 7, but received a Vodka Soda. Were the drinks cheap? Not so much. Was the service friendly? Not so much. I ordered food hoping this was the redeeming feature of the bar. I ordered a steak sandwich at $18 - the service time was quick but the sandwich didn't have much flavor - it was a dry, difficult to bite through thin steak with not much flavor to speak of. The tater tots were crispy and hot and I loved the Brussel Sprouts; they were doused excessively in the dressing but I liked it. There is a nice patio out back - they had fans in this area which is always appreciated. This bar just didn't have the stock and amenities that many other bars in the area do have . Very dive-y, if that's your thing. Everyone working here was laid back and friendly. I arrived on a Monday night after 8 pm, walked in and was immediately greeted by the bartender. Avenue Pub was my go to when I lived in the area and we decided to go check out their new brunch offerings. I got the breakfast burrito and it was pretty large and came with eggs, pulled pork, tater tots, bbq sauce and American cheese. I think it could have used more bbq sauce but it was good and filling. We also got a side of the cheesy grits that were great. Service at the bar was quick for my spicy Bloody Mary and the food came pretty quickly after ordering at the food window. I want to like this place, but service is inconsistent here. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's the rudest bartender. I do like the street car that circles the ceiling in the main room. This is one of those bars that has a community. Loyal customers. Great menu, fun place. I ordered pulled pork and my wife had an amazing salad. The food was delish. Someone felt it needed to be said it is a gay bar. I found it ALL people friendly and inclusive. My wife and I felt like a regular by the friendly inclusive welcome of the local regulars. Note: Balcony seating for the regulars over St. CHARLES ST during the parades and private parties, but entry restricted because of COVID for inside, for the Mardi Gras parade. At the door a full food and bar menu for take-out. Streets totally lined with people waiting for the 3-hour float parade. Get there at least 1 hour before the parade starts. Magnificent. To avoid crowd surge, sit on the median if you can find seating. And bring something to sit on. read more

I just want to give a big old shout out to these lovely people for making a terrible night a bit less terrible. On Thursday evening, I missed a concert I had really been looking forward to. Went all the way to the venue and discovered it had actually been on Wednesday and I've never felt so abysmally stupid and disheartened. So I wandered back to my neighborhood, sobbing the whole way. I've been really depressed and had spent a lot of money on the tickets, so this was the absolute last straw and I was really spiraling. Anyway, the kind woman at the door told me to come in and have a drink so I did and they treated me to a frozen strawberry ginger lemonade, and this thing was delicious. Could barely taste the vodka but it was definitely there because it took the edge off and I was able to stop crying. Even found a new friend to chat with. I had to run off home earlier than I wanted because drinking on an empty stomach can be tricky, but I had a nice time, and I owe the folks here at the pub a huge debt of gratitude. Unbelieveable During the busiest time of the year, when the streets were overflowing with people, the staff at The Avenue were absolutely on top of EVERYTHING! Bar service was fast even though there were four and sometimes 5 lines. The food service was extremely fast under the circumstances and the food was great. I can't imagine how much better it would be if the place was not literally overwhelmed. If I could give zero stars I would. Went in to have a drink after work and was ignored by bartender. It was only me and another group of people at the bar. I sat patiently and waited while the bartender helped everyone around me while never greeting me. I was the only POC in the bar besides another lady who was with two white men. I went to the kitchen to ask if the bar was closed because I was being ignored and got told I was being passive aggressive. I work in the restaurant industry in New Orleans and this was by far the worse experience ever. Don't go here if you are a POC unless you bring your fair skinned friends with you. Holy disappointment. The Belgian influenced menu looked inviting but the execution was lacking. I understand we are coming out of COVID and kitchens and staff are stretched but this was our poorest dining experience during our NOLA stay. Some highlights: -Toast aux Champions. How could you go wrong with sauteed mushrooms and onions in a cognac cream sauce over toast. Rich. Decadent. Sauce worthy to spoon it up and lick the bowl. -Croque Madam Hearty and a perfect balance of rich, tangy, and creamy. The misses: -Dump truck fries aka Frites Lourdes. Dry pulled pork and a bechamel sauce that was incredibly grainy. How could the same sauce be great on the Croque Madam but not this? -The house burger. Dry, thick, and rather tasteless. I ordered it medium rare but I expected a lot more from a dry aged burger. Our server was fine along with the beer and liquor selection. Unfortunately, our food didn't match. In a city full of amazing food, this would be a hard pass for me in the future. read more

This is a straight-up 24/7, craft beer-focused, dive bar with what you might call gourmet food (for a dive bar) with undeniably stinky bathrooms. We went while vacationing in Nov 2020, it was super easy to navigate to and from Canal/French Quarter. It's definitely a neighborhood spot, with mainly locals and other service industry people from what I could tell. We sat out back on the patio, and had a great time to ourselves sipping beers and goofing off. First and foremost, they have a great bottle selection. The 2 best words for it are: rare and interesting. I think it must be the best variety of sours I have ever seen. As the 20 page beer menu indicates, the cellared items need chilling, but just plan accordingly and order cellared items with your first round. They have limited draft options available during those late 2020 COVID times, but the selection was still well curated. We had overall good service, but it's a pub - so relax, and if you need something, yell or wave. The back patio was quaint. The dump truck fries and mushroom toast that we tried were both great snacks. For adventurous tourist and seekers of obscure beer, this is a great detour from the typical New Orleans tourist cuisine and atmosphere. I liked coming here because it is a place I would go to if I was at home, and not on vacation. I wouldn't go to the bathroom if I lived locally, but I would gladly drink their beer. read more
