Very dive-y, if that's your thing. Everyone working here was laid back and friendly. I arrived on a Monday night after 8 pm, walked in and was immediately greeted by the bartender. Attempted to order food at the counter, but they were out of almost everything. In the end, I just got some popcorn chicken (with Cajun spices, if I recall), which was good. Got an Urban South on draught from the bar and sat peacefully along the wall. The vibe was good.

We didn't try the food. Friendly service. An old establishment. Many Beer choices. Happy hour okay, $5 for selected choices. A neighborhood bar ambiance. Windows open with a nice breeze.

Avenue Pub was my go to when I lived in the area and we decided to go check out their new brunch offerings. I got the breakfast burrito and it was pretty large and came with eggs, pulled pork, tater tots, bbq sauce and American cheese. I think it could have used more bbq sauce but it was good and filling. We also got a side of the cheesy grits that were great. Service at the bar was quick for my spicy Bloody Mary and the food came pretty quickly after ordering at the food window. Overall their brunch is enjoyable and I hope they expand it a bit.

I was feeling lucky, stopped in to try a new beer! This place never lets me down when I'm looking for a new dessert stout. Every bartender I've encountered thus far knows beer well and doesn't mind answering my list of questions before choosing my beer.

We stayed at the Worldmark and found this place on a walk. Good music, good beer, great burgers and friendly service. Ended up stopping by multiple times!

The portions are generous and made for great leftovers for days afterwards. Brussel sprouts were the best of the three. Pork belly is good if you like fat. If you don't, stay away. It's tasty bar food. Service was nice.

Very cute corner restaurant/bar. Delicious food, cute patio upstairs bar and little slot game room.

We arrived late in town and stumbled into this pub for dinner and it was delicious! The popcorn chicken and the fish tacos were fresh and flavorful and the drinks were pretty good as well. We sat inside and you could either order from your phone or go up to the bar to place your order. Ambiance is good and it's very lively.

    Awesome like a possum.

This is one of those bars that has a community. Loyal customers. Great menu, fun place. I ordered pulled pork and my wife had an amazing salad. The food was delish. Someone felt it needed to be said it is a gay bar. I found it ALL people friendly and inclusive. My wife and I felt like a regular by the friendly inclusive welcome of the local regulars. Note: Balcony seating for the regulars over St. CHARLES ST during the parades and private parties, but entry restricted because of COVID for inside, for the Mardi Gras parade. At the door a full food and bar menu for take-out. Streets totally lined with people waiting for the 3-hour float parade. Get there at least 1 hour before the parade starts. Magnificent. To avoid crowd surge, sit on the median if you can find seating. And bring something to sit on.

    Pick a beer on tap!

They were open late but it was so loud inside with lots of sport TVs blaring, we walked out just because of that.

Good food and service. A great neighborhood spot to tuck in and watch the game with a good sandwich. Top 3 frozen Irish coffee in town.

The black garlic chicken caesar wrap and the hot chicken sandwich were so good. Lots of beers on tap. Great atmosphere. :)

The menu was limited, but the food was decent. Beer selection was ok. A couple of tvs to watch the game, but not real a sports bar.

Ask the Community - The Avenue Pub

Is this bar still open 24hrs?

Yes this is still open, but no longer a "pub". Now more of a sit down restaurant.

Is this a safe place for tourists at 1 am?

Definitely! I sent you a PM of other places about town.

My friends picked a spot, and we went - and we had no regrets. There was one man running the whole kitchen the night we came in, and he was doing great, although he was very busy. Food came out great, my friends had the "Badass Burger" which they all praised, especially the fresh fries. I personally had the Hot 8 Sampler and a simple Bacon Quesadilla - and those were no slouch either. If I had anything to complain about, it's that the price is a little high for the food you get. Though, that's to be expected so close to the convention center in a dive like this. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience - and we'd all be happy to come back.

We saw this guy LaTrez and his openers were really funny too. The drinks here were super cheap, only like $6 and damn near everybody in the audience was black, which I prefer because there's so many Caucasian Americans in the bay area these days and sometimes the comedy there can reflect that but the comedy here felt relatable. My top recommendation would be to come a little bit earlier if you wanna get a good seat, but honestly, even the seats in the back weren't bad because it's not a large venue. I would definitely return for a comedy show while I'm in town and would hit up Ernst Cafe for their Creole nachos after.
