First time here! I came here because they have valley oak saplings in stock but there is so much more to discover. I had a Boxer dog with me who was a little excited to see others so I had to make my first experience, short & sweet. Struck by the eclectic selection of statuary and garden related art. Always fun to wander through a nursery. Fair Oaks Boulevard Nursery has a nice selection of garden decor and plants. I thought the prices were a bit high, but I'm experiencing sticker shock everywhere these days, so...maybe on par with other nurseries, I'm not sure. I was surprised to find that they also have a gift store with all sorts of items such as wind chimes, Christmas ornaments, candy, books, candles, lotions and more. I wandered the gift store for a while before seeing any staff, but I didn't need help so it didn't matter for this visit. read more

I had been searching online for a variegated pink lemon tree and most of the nurseries that had them were out of state and would not ship to CA. I emailed Fair Oaks Boulevard Nursery and they responded really quickly-within a day. They said they did not have any in stock but had some on order-I asked to be emailed when they came in as I was really interested in the pink fleshed lemons. The trees came in a few days and we rushed over the next day and picked up the plant. I was surprised that it was in a 5 gallon pot, not a 1 gallon and was a lot less expensive than some of the ones advertised online. We love our little tree and have high hopes of drinking pink lemonade in the near future-lol. Nice people and really great communication. read more

Fair Oaks Boulevard Nursery is small but mighty and packed full of so much good stuff. Independent and family operated since 1949. Located on its present site since 1997. It has staying power for sure! A staple of the "hood" providing an alternative to the big box gardening conglomerates. If you are looking for that unique gift or something unusual for your own indoor/outdoor decor stop in for a look! Holidays are especially fun here. It will definitely get you in the spirit. Another bad experience at Fair Oaks Nursery. Their plants, policies and treatment of customers is at an all time low! They do not stand behind any purchase, even for a hanging coco lined basket that has their hand written price tag still attached, which was purchased for me as a gift. Which BTW was $37.99 at Fair Oaks Nursery and I found the correct size which was much larger and was only $19.99 at Lowe's. I try to support small business and have spent thousands here over the years, but the treatment I received today was so out of line that I will never return to this business. Any other garden supply business is better than this one! I bought a chemical product to treat my trees upon the advise of thier employee and was led to believe I could return it if it wasn't right for my application. Then, I talked to the U.C. Davis Cooperatve Extension for advise and they advised me not to use this product for my particular application. So, I went back to the nursery the very next day to return the product unopened and I was refused a refund. The manager (an elderly woman) was very rude to me when I old her my reason for requesting a refund, saying she didn't have to give a refund to a customer for any reason. Then she went on and leveled a personal attack on me when I question her no exceptions/no return policy. This is a poor way to conduct business and I wouldn't recommend shopping here if you want to deal with personnel that values their customers and wants their repeat business. Unless you know exactly what you want, I wouldn't recommend that you rely on their advice and expect fairness if your purchases don't meet your needs or expectations. read more

Right now they have fresh Christmas Trees it smells like the Holidays here. Be sure to walk out back it's amazing the amount of trees they have! Price is waaaaaay too high for the lack of quality. More than half of these plants show visible roots. Add some dirt! Seriously. You can afford to make your plants look good. 100% I should have taken photos just so I can share how poor more than half these looked. I'll be sure to come back and do so because people should know. Katrina was nice, helpful, the cashier lady was pretty nice. The random younger people working there are a bit strange, but alas, that's not the issue here. The point is that the quality is not there for being well overpriced. Half their plants are verrrrry unhappy. Roots showing on the top. Burnt tips. Poor health. I'd rather go to Green Acres if they had what I was looking for! Annie's is now gone, so there's that. Limited now. Also, what's up with the refund policy? Too bad. I really hate seeing negative feedback on a small business that is an exceptional staple in the community. So I wanted to chime in and leave my opinions on this nursery and some of the reviews I've read. This is my favorite nursery in the area! The only nursery that has David Austin roses that I've found and many other plants that you can't get anywhere else in the area. Some of the negative reviews I've read seem very unfair to me. Complaints of half-dead plants, yet the buyer still CHOOSES to purchase at full price and leaves negative feedback. Did you not have a choice? ‍ As far as the reviews about bringing home unwanted pests on a plant, at what point will we, the buyer, take responsibility for inspecting a plant before we decide to buy it and bring it home? It really isn't that difficult. Nurseries have hundreds and thousands of plants OUTSIDE where bugs WILL find them. You can't possibly expect every single plant to be inspected, it takes a few extra seconds to check the plant that you want yourself. As far as prices, you can tell just pulling into the parking lot, this is more of a high-end boutique nursery, if you want Wal-mart prices, go to the Wal-mart garden center. Quit leaving a bad review over a price that you think is "too high" but YOU STILL BUY IT. The expectations and entitlement from some people are completely ridiculous. The staff here has always been friendly and very helpful. I hope readers aren't swayed by the negative reviews, this is an extremely wonderful place to visit and shop at and whether you are new to gardening or a pro you will definitely find magic here. read more

My daughter lives nearby and over the years she and I have made many purchases there. We never had a problem till I bought several items for her birthday recently and one of the items wasn't the right size. We thought no problem just exchange it for something else. Not only did they refuse to exchange it but they also personally insulted my daughter. Bad customer service! We will never go back! read more

love this place!! i was amazed by the selection of plants they had- everything from passion fruit trees, to Japanese maple trees, to cara cara orange trees, to a plethora indoor plants! The employee Oliver was a great help and showed me around and pointed out all of the standout plants that this nursery carries! the vibes of this place are great, feels like a very small mom & pop nursery with friendly people :) i also loved all of the locally made gift items/garden accessories that are inside by the register. don't listen to all of the negative reviews, this place is amazing! definitely coming back here soon! read more

I came here the day after my father died to hopefully find a plant to brighten my dark mood. It didnt work but I loved the selection of plants at this nursery. A bit more pricey than Green Acres but the ground are well taken care of. The staff did not interact much and did not go above to stand out in any way. I'd like to reply to the owners false statements about my visit to the nursery. For one thing, the root ball was very small on this 15 gallon avocado tree. It was about the size of an orange, which was a very young tree and should've been in a small 5 gallon container. My landscaper explained this is how some nurseries make money- by putting younger trees in bigger containers and charging more. This is obviously what happened. The roots were definitely not damaged and not jostled about in my car or by my landscaper, as the owner suggested. My landscaper also has 30 years of experience with landscaping and knows how to gently handle young fruit trees. In addition, her comments about me taking one hour to choose my avocado tree are completely false. I had the man working there pull out 3 trees, and I chose the best of three with his advice. He seemed to be a very nice man and knowledgeable. We had a nice conversation. This whole selection included talking about the avocado's care and took all of 15 minutes! I was in and out of the nursery in 30 minutes. Even if that statement was true about taking an hour, so what? People should be free to take an hour in a nursery to make selections! As an owner, it is appalling to hear a comment like that about a customer taking too long to select something. I have friends doing complete landscaping jobs spending a lot of money on their plants and trees. Although I enjoy referring people to a great business, I will never recommend this nursery. I love this place. They have plants you won't see anywhere else, from wholesale nurseries you won't see anywhere else. Some say it's "small" but it's jammed with all kinds of stuff! Maybe they don't always answer their phone - you can tell they're short-staffed, like everywhere else - but they always reply to emails within a day. I asked if they had an uncommon type of citrus, they emailed that they didnt at the moment but they'd keep me in mind. Three months later, they remembered me and let me know that some just came in. There is an employee that wears a giant straw hat, has a beard, and a scowl on his face. In the handful of times I've been here, I have never been greeted by him, even though it's usually not busy and I've passed by him several times, sometimes smiling and trying to be friendly. Today, he passed by my sister and I and ignored us, but then he immediately greeted other customers. One other time, I thought I might have backed into him and I said "oh, I'm sorry." He continued walking not even saying "you're good." Or "that's ok." Not. A. Word. I don't believe it's something personal against me, but unfortunately I feel so unwelcome there that I will never go back. Most of the employees are generally nice, and the plants are of fine quality. I'd probably give it 4 stars if not for the bad customer service. read more

I love to support local small businesses, so was very excited to find this nursery near my home. It's very cute and quant looking. The prices are a little higher than Green Acres, Home Depot or Lowes, but I understand that they may have to do that as a small business. Last year, I purchased 2 berry plants and they took nicely. This year I purchased two more. One took, no problem. The other died within the week. All berry plants are in the same area and planted the same. No different variable. I was going to exchange the dead plant for another, then noticed that the receipt said, "all sales final". I was not aware of this policy while I was shopping there. All other competing nurseries guarantee their plants for some sort of time. I assumed Fair Oaks did too. I called to explain the situation and was told they have no problems with their plants and it if died, "it was on me." (Direct quote). When I mentioned that it feels like a gamble to shop with them and that I may not be a returning customer, she said, "ok." (Another direct quote). I am sad that this beautiful local business cares so little about their customer satisfaction. Buyers beware, Fair Oaks Nursery doesn't guarantee their plants at all and really doesn't care if you come back. Bummer. read more

Fair Oaks Nursery has lost a customer they have sold to for decades due to the treatment I experienced over a small purchase! In July I brought back 3 Mexican sunflowers I bought there. I have planted these plants every year but as these particular ones matured, they looked funny. I googled them and then contacted a plant specialist in Davis. All information seemed to indicate that these were not rotundifolia but an invasive type, Tithonia diversifolia. I explained the concern to the manager and a man named Terry. The manager just walked away but Terry was concerned and said he would contact the seller. Despite me having my receipt and bringing them three healthy, but possibly misidentified plants, they had me leave my plants there. I unhappily walked away with no plants, no store credit nor refund. Terry later called me and said, "the nursery will plant the plants I brought in and if they have yellow flowers, they are the invasive and if they are orange, they are the good ones." I never heard from them again. I normally shop there for all my summer annuals but due to the way they handled this issue, I didn't spend a dime there. I went back in October and saw Terry again. He said the plants turned out to be ok, the non-invasive ones. I explained how I gave them the plants, again showed him my receipt but wasn't offered a store credit or refund. Terry said he would recommend the manager call me. I never heard from them. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars there over the years. Now, I will never shop there, nor recommend them ever again. read more

TL DR: plant is half dead, they don't offer discounts on half dead plants, has mealy bugs, lady at the front is a snob, they don't answer the phone, some plants are RIDICULOUSLY over priced. By like $60. Bought this triostar even though it was half dead. These pics are taken after I got it home. Half the leaves were brown and crispy and the other half had brown and crispy spots. It looked terrible, but I thought i could nurse it back to health, as I've been wanting one, and haven't seen one in our area. When I asked the lady at the front if she would give a discount because it was half dead, she replied "they're plants, they have good days and bad days", then scoffed like it was a stupid question. Pretty sure this plant is not going to be having a good day for while. (That was also the same lady I've heard say to a co-worker "I'm not answering that", referring to the ringing phone, as if doing her job is beneath her. So don't expect to get an answer when you call.) When I got this plant home, I noticed it was infested with mealybugs. And not just on the leaves, it's down in the stems, so every time a new leaf unfurls, it's full of mealy bugs. The last month of neem hasn't been doing anything. Pretty much ready to throw this plant away. If you get anything from this nursery, make sure you check it real well and quarantine before putting with the rest of your plants! Also, last time I was there, they were selling a philodendron birkin for $80. You can by this plant (yes, same size) for $18 on Etsy. Make sure you know the market or do your research so you don't get screwed over! I wanted to support a small business during Covid, but there are other local stores that are cheaper, except returns, admit fault, and aren't rude. read more

Cute nursery. Items are somewhat overpriced compared to Green Acres. Came across some Persian shield that wasn't looking very fresh or happy. Crispy leaves and so on. I asked the cashier if she had any others and she directed me to 3 others, 2 of which were in worse shape and double the price. The price of the plant was $8 in a 3 inch pot. Not outrageous if it was in better shape but I wasn't paying that much for one that was going to need to be trimmed significantly. There were several plants I was contemplating but after being dismissed so quickly. I opted to get my plants elsewhere. Typically they would offer a discount at other nurseries I've shopped at to take a less than perfect one off their hands. This place is really pretty whenever I'm out in Sacramento I try to stop by. it is a bit more on the expensive side for what I've seen plants priced and the pots are alright priced. I would have hoped for more budget bonsai pots, but they are definitely worth it. the first time I was here they had a really big selection of air plants on a wire wall which was really cool and a small selection of carnivorous plants :) but my favorite area of this nursery is the bonsai area it has really nice pines and conifers for bonsai and some okay starter plants but just the variety of conifers and pots was great. The workers here are always really nice too and they have a restroom which is a plus too :) read more

Probably the worst customer service ever. I wanted to help a small buss during this difficult time but the lady (probably the owner) said "I don't have a good feeling about this" after I said I wanted an itemize receipt and to hold my order until the weekend. She wanted me to pay in full during our phone conversation but of course I was hesitant after not receiving a receipt and after her rude comment. She also said other rude stuff over the phone and unfortunately I will not or my family be giving business to this company. I'm kind of confused by some negative reviews. First of all if you buy a half dead plant that's your fault. Some stores get credits for unsold/ bad items. So selling them at a discount is actually losing money (not sure if that's the case here). I do agree that prices are a bit high, but most independent nurseries do have higher prices. Also, look at the location. I'm not sure there's anything cheap around there. That being said I've been here probably 5 or 6 times. And I've always been treated well. If you take the time to look outside they actually do have a lot of cool houseplants you don't see super often. They have some cool cactuses and succulents. I really like the environment here. Even though it's not my favorite nursery I love to look around here. I could spend an hour outside. read more

I have been to Fair Oaks Blvd. Nursery several time, usually spending $100+ on stuff I don't need. Occasionally I buy some plants. I prefer supporting small local businesses. The past two times I've arrived has been about 15-20 minutes prior to closing. As I walked in, a woman came up to me and said, "Is there anything I can helping you with because we're getting ready to close." Twice this happened to me. The first time I let it go. Yesterday I said to this woman that each time I come, I am treated very rudely. Apparently, FOBN doesn't really need my business or my money. Her response: "Works for me.". There is a cost to acquire business. it's called advertising and marketing. There is also a cost to keeping the clients and customers you have. There are courteous ways of reaching the end of your day with customers. This is not the way. The employer and employees don't see any reason to be respectful. Obviously, I won't return. read more

The woman that owns and operates this place is a nut, not to mention the gift shop is like a war zone. I don't know anyone that could navigate it, s$&t everywhere!! Then there's the prices she is asking for things, when I asked why everything was so much she got an attitude and began a lecture about how they're the ONLY ones who carry x, y or z in the area. Yet, what I was looking for at were lantana and trust me you'd see them for sale at Home Depot for half. I'm all about supporting local businesses but it's well managed ones that get my money. The reason I wrote this review is because when I was checking out there, the woman, Debbie was her name begins some rant about how if Trump got elected again she would find the Trump supporters and vandalize their house and cars. Spring is in full effect. If you're looking for some local pond plants you've found the place! I bought (6) water hyacinth this season. It's always a challenge finding a local place that sells them early on in the season before they take off and produce like crazy, especially with so many businesses closing due to COVID/recession. $5 each plant. I sure hope this place stays in business. A bit pricey for most things, but they keep a clean lot, and have a ton of different plant species. The variety is good. They even have an indoor store that hosts many unique gifts for the plant lovers. read more
