I can't believe it took me this long to visit The Secret Garden! I've driven past it countless times on the freeway since moving to Elk Grove, but this was my first time stopping in, and I was genuinely impressed. My daughter's uncle, his fiancée, and I brought her here after lunch to celebrate her birthday, and they let her pick out a couple of plants to take home. It turned out to be such a fun experience. The nursery has a huge selection of plants, flowers, pots, and garden décor, and it was easy to spend way more time browsing than we had planned. Everything was well organized, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Whether you're an experienced gardener or just looking for your first houseplant, there's something for everyone here. My daughter was especially excited about the plants she chose. I'm honestly a little sad that I'm moving away because I know this would have become one of my regular spots. The Secret Garden is a not-so-secret nursery that isn't your average nursery. I've seen it when it was a secret, with just a tiny wooden sign on the back road by the freeway and tucked at the end of a residential neighborhood. Over the years, they grew in popularity and I saw the new neon signage go up and am always excited to see their next new landscaping and added features. This is a split between gardening supplies and plants. They don't have trees like your average nursery, but more of succulents, cactus, herbs, and decorative flora. They sell tons of giants pots and has an indoor shop with cute gardening knick knacks. I've purchased many cute household plants from them. I love that the space itself is decorated to give you ideas for your next project. It's a nice stroll thru paths, gazebos, and ponds/water structures. There is an annual butterfly event when the butterflies migrate and stop by the Secret Garden's many passionfruit vines. During their summer events, there's rotating vendors. I actually found my favorite coffee from a pop-up here, which now they have a brick and mortar shop downtown, Burnside Coffee. Whether you're looking for ideas or cute plants, the Secret Garden has it. Sometimes it's just nice to stroll around their grounds. I'm hoping they expand more in the future and add more gardens and structures. Hopefully they can set up a picnic area and have more events. read more

What an amazing place!!! I really love how they throw themed events 2 make it fun 4 the whole family!!!! 2day was Butterfly day & they had face painting, a food cart, etc. we were greeted right away by a worker walking by. We enjoyed looking @ the different types of plants & flowers, picking which color we liked best!!! Love all the random garden decor they have laying all around. I actually bought 1 (a tin man) 4 my dad, love buying him garden decor as he keeps a wonderful garden!!! This place is the cutest little plant nursery in the area! They have affordable succulents, plants, pots, and more. I got a couple succulents for my son and daughter. My 5 year old was most excited about their stones/rocks. You fill a bag for $7ish. He got to pick every stone/rock that he wanted and filled the bag. The Secret Garden is such a cute shop with an amazing selection of plants, and their gift shop is absolutely adorable. I went to one of their workshops and made a botanical cloche (pictured), and it was SO fun. It really lets everyone get creative, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful the whole time. The shop itself is full of beautiful, handmade, creative items, and it's just a really lovely place to spend time in. This nursery has a huge assortment of ornamental plants. Prices are much higher than other stores. The location is in the middle of a residential area. There is a decent selection of aquatic plants. Our yearly holiday tradition now includes purchasing our Christmas tree from The Secret Garden, a small family owned local shop. Prices are comparable and even cheaper than those cold parking lot pop ups. Each tree is stored in water to ensure it remains fresh and lasts all season. They will trim it, give it a fresh cut, wrap it and even help you load it. The special part is how each tree is individually named based on their personality. This is part of the family fun is finding a name that vibes with you. The back of the tag shows the price so there is no secret about the bargain you are getting. The secret garden is an eclectic independently owned garden nursery that offers a vast selection of indoor and outdoor plants, water fountains, statuary, glazed ceramic and terracotta pottery, pavers and stepping stones, soil, DG, artisan curated pressed flowers, macrame plant hangers, plant pics & so much more. Theres an entire "teaching and learning" aspect the Secret Garden offers to its shopping community. All their classes are posted on their monthly calendar, which is on the webpage And you can sign up online and pay to reserve your spot. This is exactly what I did when I received an invitation for their Valentine's Day teaching and learning craft and shop day, They had two crafting stations, light hors d'oeuvres were served with champagne or tea, and each guest got the opportunity to spin a wheel and win an instant discount coupon that could be used right then and there if you decided to shop their fabulous gift shop after finishing up at one or both crafting stations. The two crafting stations were the copper wire plant pick with wider wrapped tumbled crystal or natural crystals, and the pressed flower crafting station where you got to select from secret Gardens, curated pressed flowers and make your own mini window frame that you could hang up. Two of my friends and I did the copper plant pick with the wire wrapped crystals and one of my friends did the pressed flowers craft station. And I must say the results were simply gorgeous. This was a super fun and relaxing event and we had such a great time. I will most definitely be checking out the Secret Gardens spring class calendar for their up-and-coming classes. read more

I've stopped in a few times now during different seasons, my favorite is when the passionfruit vines are in bloom and there are butterflies everywhere. They have a wide variety of plants both growing there, more for display and inspiration, as well as for sale for your garden or for gifts. When you walk through, they've done a great job of having different sections for different types of plants, displays and supplies. They tend to have a large variety of pots available and if you follow them on Instagram you can see when they have different sales. They also have special events here throughout the year where they'll partner with other local businesses for different activities or special times of the year. Keep an eye on their website and social media for these too. All the plants I've bought here have done really well. I have an amazing passion fruit vine from here that has been growing so well for the last year or so. What a hidden gem! I was looking for a place to pick up some succulents, and was hoping for something a little more interesting than your average big box hardware and garden stores. I am so glad I stumbled upon this one! You could spend hours here wandering around, even if you aren't planning on getting any plants! They have a fantastic selection of succulents and other plants, as well as a gift shop and bonsai trees. I spent way too much money here, but the selection is so much fun, and they provide enough information about the plants that I felt confident that I was buying the right type of plant for each area in my yard. It was raining when we got there so when we were walking out of the store one of the sales girls told us that she moved the employees only sign to give us a more direct path to our car. I really appreciated that. I didn't get to check out the plants because of the rain but they had some stones that we liked. I attended the Herbal Craft Tea Workshop taught by Jennifer. It was a fantastic experience. She was prepared, on time and a very warm and engaging personality. We were provided with materials to take home for future use, items made during the class and a nice discount for shopping after class which I used on a fairly priced cute tea cup and saucer planter to display in my tea garden. The class included herb blending instruction, we made a silky salve of calendula and our choice of herbs and 6 piece incense nubs. From the parking lot, Secret Garden may not seem like much. But, once you step inside, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the selection of plants, pots, and speciality items. This is my favorite store in Elk Grove! I just went there today. I hadn't been there in a long time, but now I realize I must make a routine of it. Not only do I find things for my home, but I see great gift items for my family members. Today I bought tiny, life- like songbirds to put up on my mantle. They have gorgeous plants, statuary, pottery, decorative items for your home and patio. It is a great store for people who love nature. It is a relaxing place to stop and just wander around the grounds. There is so much to look at, you will need to take your time. The Secret Garden is conveniently located along Highway 99, just off the Sheldon exit. I highly recommend this local small business. It is a much needed unique shop in a sea of big box, generic stores in Elk Grove. I wish we had more like it. read more

Not so secret to those who regularly take the 99 between EG and Sac (like me) and routinely see this shop from the freeway ehehehe. I finally got around to visiting this garden shop after wanting some mini succulents as part of a housewarming gift. Let me tell you that this place is *the* place for succulents! Like 1/3 of the shop is dedicated to them (the rest of the shop being for huge ceramic pots and a collective mix of other plants). So many succulents of various shapes, colors, and sizes. No slim pickings of each type either! Very much appreciative that the succulents are organized by their sunlight requirement (I lingered in the section of indoor/shade-loving succulents for a long time). Aside from small greenhouses areas, the shop is primarily outdoors (go early in the day during the summer!). The ground has a lot of loose dirt so don't be like me and wear flip flops lol. Friendly staff here. The shop overall has small-community vibes (I mean, can't beat these community vibes when the shop is located right across a neighborhood). I arrived here just 15 minutes before closing and wish I had allowed more time! The Secret Garden is packed full of healthy succulents, beautiful statues and garden decor and a wide selection of garden plants. I ended up purchasing a mosaic tile mushroom-they caught my eye right away and it was hard to choose which one I wanted! I recently visited Secret Garden with high hopes, but I was deeply disappointed by the state of many of the plants. Unfortunately, it seems that several of them have been neglected, showing signs of severe distress. Many leaves were brown, dry, and withered, indicating a lack of proper care and watering. It's disheartening to see such beautiful plants being poorly maintained.A garden should be a place of beauty and vitality, but these uncared-for plants really took away from the overall experience. I hope the management addresses this issue soon because it truly affects the ambiance and the quality of what could be a lovely place. read more

Such a great place for plant lovers! Secret Garden has a wide selection of plants ranging from succulents, outdoor plants, to tropical indoor plants. All of their plants seem to be in great condition too! Check their indoor section as they have a lot of great items, like wind chimes, sun catchers, enamel pins, etc. Most of their plants are in the pricier side, however. I worked here last summer and noticed some concerning practices. After closing, the owners often left their dog outside in extreme heat--even on days when temperatures exceeded 100°F. Additionally, while the gift shop has some cute items, they're all made in China. It's disappointing, as this could have been a great opportunity for a small, local business to support local artisans instead. read more

Don't let the view from the freeway deter you from visiting this gem! It's so much bigger than it looks and designed uniquely in highlighting each type of plant. The staff is super helpful, and you can bring your trained and behaved doggies. The staff is a great help if your a beginner or expert plant enthusiast. They advise and give suggestions based upon your vision of home plant paradise. You will find a great selection of pots for your plant babies. They have colorful designed pots to the classic fired color. You can even pick up predesigned potted succulents for your office. They have water fountains for your yard or office. I'm not a plant person but I love walking through the plants with our puppy. It is peaceful and rejuvenating. Even if you don't want to dive deep into the plant world you should stop by for a visit. I love how their succulents are organized in different areas showing whether they need full sun, partial sun, etc. plenty of succulents to choose from with many varieties; including rare succulents. I was on a hunt for the Hoya heart vine and they so happen to have it in their store. I sent a message via Instagram at 7:30 am and ask for the plant to be put on hold although the store doesn't open until 10, I got a response immediately. They couldn't hold the plant because for me but I was blown away by their responsiveness. Staff there are so friendly and helpful.
