Well you can imagine my happiness while at a Yelp event in Oak Park I saw next door there was an amazing looking nursery-I just knew I would have to make a return visit-well when I finally had the time,we headed to The Plant Foundry located at 3500 Broadway in Oak Park. This place is so cute-I haven't been to a ton of nurseries as I've generally picked up my cactus plants at random spots like a midtown market or a Trader Joe's or as gifts from people but I will say this was one of the cuter nurseries I've been to. When we arrived I walked around a bit to check out what they had to offer-what was in season and wondering where the cactus plants were. I liked this little sign they had in the middle of their nursery which advised everyone what was in season and what should be planted at this time of year-for a newbie green thumb person like myself-information like that is very helpful. After walking around a bit I decided on the cutest little cactus to add to my collection at home and it cost me $7.99,so cheap and my daughter decided to get a snow peas plant($7.49). In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Oak Park area and want to check out the cutest little nursery-I would 100% recommend The Plant Foundry for all your gardening needs-they have a really awesome business running out there-I like em and will be back.

This nursery is on the smaller size and not as overwhelming as some of the others in the area, and all the plants we've picked up here have been happy and have been great additions to our garden. I like that we've found consistent seasonal offerings as well as have been surprised with some fun plants we haven't seen elsewhere. The store inside is also fun to browse with both garden accessories, as well as gifts, fun items, and local things that someone with an interest in gardening would also enjoy. The staff is friendly and helpful and there's even sometimes a cute and friendly cat that's wondering around to greet guests. A great spot to browse while visiting Oak Park and a great spot to pick up seasonal plants or more longterm additions to your garden.

Over the years, they grew in popularity and I saw the new neon signage go up and am always excited to see their next new landscaping and added features. This is a split between gardening supplies and plants. They don't have trees like your average nursery, but more of succulents, cactus, herbs, and decorative flora. They sell tons of giants pots and has an indoor shop with cute gardening knick knacks. I've purchased many cute household plants from them. I love that the space itself is decorated to give you ideas for your next project. It's a nice stroll thru paths, gazebos, and ponds/water structures. There is an annual butterfly event when the butterflies migrate and stop by the Secret Garden's many passionfruit vines. During their summer events, there's rotating vendors. I actually found my favorite coffee from a pop-up here, which now they have a brick and mortar shop downtown, Burnside Coffee. Whether you're looking for ideas or cute plants, the Secret Garden has it. Sometimes it's just nice to stroll around their grounds. I'm hoping they expand more in the future and add more gardens and structures. Hopefully they can set up a picnic area and have more events.

Her husband and her have a farm and me and mine occasionally join them since we live down the street from the nursery. The staff there are so so friendly and knowledgeable. We want to plant fruit trees and start a veggie garden, eventually. Between the staff and my best friends I feel very comfortable learning how to have a green thumb. As far as price goes, since this is my first time there and not really buying plants aside from the seasonal flower to indoor plants I'm not too familiar with it being good value. But I do believe they are as my best friends always come back and the constantly have fliers for sales. They also give notice to upcoming community events. Our last visit we realized that they also sell beef cuts, tallow, jams and honey. We decided to purchase the honey and we just tried it with tea and by itself, and we will be repurchasing! We're excited to get our beef there too. But amazing place, heavily believe in supporting local nurseries it's worth it.

So, it's that time in our lives that we are looking to start the money pit aka kitchen renovation…read more We've been in our house for a few years now, we're finally settled, paid off our cars so we have a few extra bucks. IKEA was the first place we thought of for inspiration. We were surprised at the color scheme we looked at and liked. We were attracted to the blue cabinets or the olive green cabinets as they would look good with our dark floors. An ask for countertops, I don't want lament as it won't hold it's shape. I like the glass composite countertops as they look more sturdy. We were surprised that they sell stoves, ovens, and microwaves. We thought they would be dummy's like the TVs are. I question the quality and longevity of IKEAs kitchens. They mostly show the lament kitchen tops. It's much cheaper then the composite glass, but I doubt they will last as long. I found the sink style I like. We have water outflow issues with our sink and facet, so I found a set in sink that I liked, no lip that goes over the countertops. With the countertops questionable longevity, now I question the cupboards quality and longevity. You have to give them props for being reusable price, I just don't want it to wear out. In the end we are thinking that the cost will be around $15,000 including instulation. I'm thinking more like $20,000 as things always cost more than you expect them to. Our next stop will be local hardware stores to check out their offerings. We really like IKEA's set up and displays. They are so realistic with the walls and all, it makes you feel like you are walking into a real kitchen unlike the hardware stores where you are just looking at the counties tops and cupboards. One things we observed with IKEA is they have lots of stark white cabinets. They brighten the room, but stark white against dark brown floors woudld be doo much of a contrast. And reminds me of the black and white high contrast baby books they make for tummy time. A little too contrasty for me. So, here we are looking at an investment as ours is still functional so there really isn't a rush. My husband has a point, let's spread out our large purchases over the years and not do everything at once. This year will possibly be the kitchen. Next year will be painting the house. And there is a good possibility of doing the ac and heating units. Last month was the fridge. And a few years back it was the washer and a few months after that it was the dryer. So in the end everything is pretty much spread out. Oh, don't forget the dishwasher and around 5 years ago it was the dishwasher and hot tub. The good news we're not in debt.
