Part of Fairfax County, there are plenty of walking trails, recreation centers, tennis/volleyball courts, community pools,and even a shopping center (that includes World Market, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Shoppers, Regal Cinemas, various restaurants, etc.). Those who are really health-conscious will appreciate the little work-out stations on the walking trails, where you can work out your legs, arms, and abs :P There is a residential association where they offer various announcements, community events, recycling information, and even free 'clubs' that you can join (such as playing bridge, chess, etc.). The place is continuing to expand with more development in the retail shops and more homes. Getting to Kingstowne is pretty convenient, with the Van Dorn and the Springfield-Franconia Metro stops nearby. The streets are also getting a major facelift, so no more potholes! Make sure you are driving the speed limit, as there are many pedestrians and multiple stops on school days of students getting picked-up/dropped-off by the bus.

I'm not a fan of this system or this government or this way of doing things - considering this is traditionally a country that people came to to take refuge and be free, and they're trying to twist it around now so that it's just a haven for the rich and powerful, supported by the people who do low-pay and under-table jobs, who don't get to stick around permanently or have rights or become citizens. But my personal experience was slightly better than my overall opinion of them. They did a good job processing me thanks to my lawyer and it was a lot less painless than I thought it would be. It's still not a very professional service and at the actual border the guards have been nothing short of abusive and racist and extremely psychotic - I was blatantly sexually abused by one of them a few years back - however for my actual citizenship process they did a good job and personally I am grateful that it's over.

Basically was told to keep on waiting. They also said their delivery drivers mess up a lot and mark it as delivered before it's delivered (sometimes days in advance.) If this problem is so common, how about some better training? This is hands down the WORST postal office I've ever used. They don't even tell me where my package is...just "Wait another business day." Absolutely ridiculous. *Update* I ordered a second package. The site said "Delivered at or in mailbox. But 7 hours later it's not at, in around or anywhere near my mailbox. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. After a formal investigation of the first package we found it a day later. They scanned it a day early. The high ceilings and windows make it special. Additionally they have regularly scheduled activities for individuals of all ages, passport services, a decent amount of computers with printing, puzzles, a children's area w/ books and toys and a newspaper/magazine room. Staff is generally pleasant. However, you will need NOISE CANCELLING headphones. There are children screaming and running around, unhoused individuals snoring, elderly people speaking loudly and inconsiderate people also making noise -often on the phone (whether on speakerphone, facetime or zoom calls). If you ask personnel to tell someone to be more quiet, they are prompt though. However, that individual will likely continue once they're gone. It also is problematic how despite this library having a childrens section towards the front, they host events in the back of the library where many are working quietly..... Reservable rooms and more considerate hosting would resolve these issues. I have noticed many of us are students/professionals working/studying intensely and more consideration in preserving a serene environment would make this place more appealing.

The interior is clean, bright lit, huge with tall ceilings, books stocked and neatly organized on shelves, areas for newsletters and flyers, clean bathrooms, a separate kids area, computers for Internet access, a lovely very green courtyard, comfortable arm chairs, and a lot of seating. Anyone who lives, works, owns property, owns a business or attends school in Alexandria is entitled to a free library card and allowed full use of the facilities, plus those who live in Arlington, Charles, District of Columbia, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Prince William.

This library is a grand two levels and is open on Sundays which makes this a great way to spend a rainy day weekend. The librarians are SO friendly and their selection of new children's books and graphic novels is vast. My family and I are avid bookstore goers and library visitors but for some reason we always find new things to read here. They have several study rooms and conference rooms available. We had a Girl Scout meeting that involved a bunch of printing and research needs -- their online reservation system made it so easy to book. It's prime Fairfax City location makes this a great place to run a bunch of errands at once. I recommend grabbing a book and reading at the Layered cafe next door for the ultimate cozy day treat.
