NO ONE CALLED TO ALERT ME. I had waited TWO WEEKS & now I have to find another doctor and try to reschedule, when appts are impossible to get this time of year. He listened, encouraged questions, cared and came up w/ a plan that did not initially involve injections. He prescribed 2 medications and they have made a world of difference in my neck - I can hardly belive that it could feel so normal again. In addition to being an experienced and caring doctor, his breath and depth of knowledge is remarkable and his personality is exceptional. He made me feel so comfortable, encouraged questions and never made me feel rushed. Seven months ago I woke up w/ a neck problem so extreme that I could barely take a step without feeling severe pain. My PCP prescribed a medication that was too strong for me - it got rid of the pain AND my memory. Flash forward 7 months. During the 7 months of neck pain I met with a Physical Therapist who has helped me w/ exercises for various aches and pains over the years. This time w/ the exercises giving no relief and the neck pain so severe, I gave up and decided I would probably need cortocosteroid injections. I had an MRI and made an appointment w/ an Orthopedic Surgeon my PCP recommended. I had a folder with the recent cervical MRI and all the doctor's notes and reports from visits to previous doctors. The Orthopedic Surgeon had me take additional Xrays in his office. He immediately recommended I see a doctor for cortocosterioid injections in my neck. He didn't spend more than 7 minutes in the examining room and most of the time with his BACK to me -it was an odd experience. I tried to see the doctor he recommended but her staff made so many mistakes in making the appointment, telling me I had an appt on March 31, then after receiving many confirmation requests from them, when I called to ask a question, was told I didnt have an appt till April 7. I called again to ask about get injections and was told I did have a March 31 appt. It was all more than I wanted to deal with and canceled with her. I feel so fortunate that I got to quickly see Dr. John F. Dombrowski at the Washington Pain Center on New Mexico Ave, in NW DC . He was AMAZING. Without even looking at the MRI report and the Xrays, he told me exactly what the MRI report would say and what the Xrays would show - he is that experienced. AND best of all, Instead of getting an injection, he suggested I first try some medications. After taking one pill yesterday and one today, my neck already feels better. I can actually turn my head without wincing in pain. There was another patient who came in after me. Before Dr. Dombrowski saw him, he came to me to ask me a "favor"- would I mind if he saw the other patient before me as Dr. D. knew it would be a short appointment with the other patient. How many doctors would ask for your permission to do that or would they just do what they want? I have been kept waiting such long times at some offices, with no explanation being given from anyone, that I have walked out. The office waiting room is inviting and comfortable AND the receptionists are the nicest I have ever met. They both were so kind. I especially appreciated Kate helping me use the Ipad to fill out the forms and telling me I did not need to rush. IMHO, the people at the front desk can create a positive or negative feeling from the moment you walk into an office. For me, if the first people you meet in an office are too busy to look up and welcome you, that is not a good sign. Kate and the other receptionist created a very positive environment. I am thankful I found Dr. Dombrowski and his team. Am looking forward to returning in a couple weeks for a checkup!!

First, Dr. Unger replaced the right knee, giving me a 'good leg to stand on'. After healing from this surgery, a total reconstruction of the left hip was completed. I was introduced to Dr. Possner by a good friend. There are not enough words to describe how…read morethankful I am for this introduction. From the first meeting I had with Dr. Possner, I knew things would be vastly different and that I had found someone that would have a profound impact on my health. My first appointment was the longest time I had ever spent with a doctor. My appointment was 2 hours and Dr. Possner had fully reviewed my medical records and engaged me in thoughtful conversation about my medical history. I left my initial appointment with a feeling of empowerment over my health that I had never really felt before. Little did I know that the impact of having Dr. Possner as my doctor would happen so quickly. I was on vacation and had an acute UTI. It was after business hours, but I was able to call the office and get the on call doctor that happen to be Dr. Possner. I walked him through my symptoms and he immediately called in a prescription for me. Because he had such knowledge of my history it was easy for us to communicate and talk through my symptoms. He checked on me via email through the client portal several times over the next couple of days to ensure I was ok. The fact that I was in a remote part of a different state and I was able to call and speak with the doctor saved me stress and the hassle of finding an urgent care to go to. He has made several recommendations to other specialists and doctors, all of whom have turned out to be amazing. His referral goes a long way with each specialist I have scheduled an appointment with. I can't recommend Dr. Possner enough; he's a great listener, thoughtful, caring, kind and you can tell he truly loves what he is doing. His follow through is simply amazing.

You should just bend it. Come on now." (He proceeded to drop the leg, as a test.) Or heard of one using similarly rough to a woman with spine issues. Is this his norm? Both are black women who required extensive surgeries/care, which were delayed by his poor recognition of clear issues and lack of ...something. There are many other doctors to use, don't let your insurance or time constraints make you feel forced to utilize his services. You will regret it. Avoid if at all possible.

Don't get faulked by Dr. Faulks and his residents!…read more I went into the GW Hospital ER with a broken tibia and fibula. On the first visit, I apparently didn't meet with any orthopedics and recieved the worst fiberglass splint. The guy who put it on went all the way up above my knee, and he used 6 ace bandages and really stretched them really tight. I was discharged and just hours later my entire leg was in excrutiating pain. I returned to the ER, 2nd visit, 2nd copay, 2nd time they get to bill my insurance and I have to pay a $150 copay. Enter the orthopedic residents. They removed the old splint and admitted it was the wrong type and too tight. They left my leg unsplinted for a while, and the pain went away on its own, but it didn't happen quickly. They put on a new plaster splint that fit great, and they said if I stayed overnight as an inpatient, Dr. Faulks could operate the next day. I stayed the night, my surgery wasn't their highest priority over some of their other cases and it got pushed until around 5pm. I waited in relative comfort in my room, I fasted for 17 hours by the time I went into the OR. This was my first time meeting Dr. Faulks, it seems he has his residents meet with patients before/after surgery. He had never seen my leg, and he didn't bother to examine it before ordering general anesthesia. Next thing I knew, I was waking up, and for some reason already had a sense something was wrong. There was swelling and fracture blisters that made it not possible to operate. Had he examined the leg ahead of time, it would have been apparent. I had a new cast on and I was told the blisters were removed and bandaged. They wheeled me back to my room, and the residents met me there. At this point, I already knew something was wrong. My smallest toe was caught in the cast and I was being crushed, in addition, the cast was applying some amount of pressure to keep my foot at 90°, but rather than applying it across my foot, all the pressure was on the joint below my smallest toe. It seemed like perhaps they started the cast there and pulled everything against it. First it was tingling, then numb, and then painful. When I told the residents they gave me the same dismissive response that should be the motto of the orthopedics team there "it's a broken ankle so it's going to hurt". This is toxic because it completely ignores the fact that the pain isn't in my ankle, it's my toe, and it shifts the blame from them to me. I don't let doctors push me around though and explained that the pain wasn't in my ankle. One of the residents said he needed to go into the OR but would return with a saw to loosen the cast. He was gone for hours and the pain became maddening. The nurse injected painkillers and gave me oxycodone, but it didn't really provide any relieve to this ongoing trauma. I finally took matters into my own hands and used a knife to free my toe from the cast. The nurse seemed kind of nervous about it at first, but then after she saw how it was wrapped in the incompetence of Dr. Faulks and his team, she began assisting and between the two of us we freed it. Nearly 5 hours later the resident returned with a saw. He was not happy about the modifications to the cast. He cut both sides of it open to relieve pressure in general, but with no benefit to the area that was in pain. He refused to give me a new cast despite how poorly it fit. This region is surrounded by talented award winning orthopedic surgeons from top universities. Dr. Faulks is not one of them. He graduated from the University of Nowhere and the certificate he got from it was probably the peak of his career. He's not on any of the Top Orthopedics in DC lists for good reason, he's not one of them. Unless you're interested in smug surgeons who are too busy to care about your surgery only to needlessly deliver recreational anesthesia, look elsewhere. You can't swing a dead cat in this city without hitting a top notch orthopedic. The only reason anyone would go to this guy is if they didn't do any research and took the easy option like I did, and let me tell you, it's not worth it. I'm still imprisoned in this terrible cast that probably some resident who just got out of medical school did her best on, and I've now got to find a new surgeon to clean up his mess. The next time you're looking for an orthopedic surgeon, don't get faulked by Dr. Faulks.

My initial appointment was a frightening time for me and although the condition that brought me there didn't turn out to be serious, Dr. Kurzrok took it seriously. I found him via the Washingtonian magazine's best list, which has always done me right. He has several locations and I went to the Providence hospital one. At one point, he wasn't sure what was going on and referred me to someone he felt was a better doctor. I've since come back to Dr Kurzrok because of his personality. He challenged me to be healthier as a means of avoiding further incidents and while I can see how that might come off as abrasive to some people, it was just what I needed.

We traveled from Bethesda to Washington Hospital Center specifically for those appointments. After we arrived, we were told that only my appointment existed. The staff then informed my wife that she had supposedly been removed from the practice because of an unspecified incident from about 10 years ago. No one could explain what had happened or why she had never been informed before we made the trip. I questioned why this had not been addressed before we drove into Washington and why no one could provide a clear explanation. Instead of trying to resolve the situation or apologizing for the confusion, the response became even more troubling. Although I had a scheduled appointment, Dr. Kruzrok came out personally and told me that he would not be seeing me either. From my perspective, my appointment was canceled because I respectfully stood up for my wife and questioned how we had been treated. Whatever happened to the Hippocratic Oath? Rather than provide the medical care I had traveled there to receive, Dr. Kruzrok chose not to see me. That decision was deeply disappointing and, in my opinion, inconsistent with the professionalism and compassion patients should expect from a physician. The issue here is bigger than one doctor. It reflects a culture of poor communication, lack of accountability, and disregard for patients' time. We rearranged our day, traveled into Washington, D.C., and left without either of us receiving the care we had scheduled. I found Dr. Kruzrok's demeanor to be smug and self-righteous, and his handling of this situation fell far short of what I expect from a physician. Based on this experience, I have no confidence in either Dr. Kruzrok or MedStar Health, and I cannot recommend either.
