Unacceptable experience in the pro shop trying to check in... The golf shop attendant (female) was rude and unprofessional, and the head pro was no better - accusatory, arrogant, and dismissive. Do not waste your money here. Go somewhere where you will be appreciated and treated with respect and where you will enjoy the experience. Combative people are not where I want to spend my time or money!!!!! read more

For having lived here 12 years, it's a wonder to have never played here. Only 17 mins from my House. The Fairways of Canton is an appreciated course. I like the fact that it's nestled in a rolling hilly layout with some really interesting tee shots. I particularly liked two, one was a rather steep high tee box reaching to a 198 yard par three. The other was a long par 5 dog leg right that cradles the water and the first shot off the tee is a rather blind shot. The damage was for 55 dollars for an 11 am tee time on weds is not too bad. It usually goes up to 10-15 dollars more on the weekend. Cart is included, however the cart is monitored via satellite and make sure you pay attention because one erroneous turn on what you would think a 90 degree fairway turn has become a cart path only and your cart is locked down. Stuck and unable to move until either you put it in reverse or wait one long dreadful minute. To allow you to return to the cart path. That was the worse part of it. I dislike this because some people who never played there before certainly have a common sense approach to playing golf, not to mention they have fairway Marshalls or starters to oversee and support others. GRRR. I would return here to ask more questions about which holes are limited to drive on. read more

I hate giving bad reviews, but I can't justify a higher rating here than 2 stars. First of all, some positives. FOC is a very friendly club, from the pro shop folks to the restaurant staff, the cart girl and also home team members we were playing against as part of a local seniors team event. I learnt afterwards while speaking to our opponents, that the club has a very healthy membership in addition to its public play customers, with lots of internal events taking place each week. As far as course condition goes, I would call it average by the standards of your typical non-private club - nothing particularly great or terrible. Finally, there are some absolutely stunning views at various places around the course. Now for the bad news! From my perspective, the layout of the course is a bit of a disaster. Firstly, even for a "short-knocker" like me, it is very short in nature. That can be absolutely fine of course, but in this case, there were so many holes where it was practically impossible to determine where to hit the ball off the tee. There was one hole for example, where the appropriate shot was something like a 7 iron off the tee to the apex of a dog leg, followed by a utility club up to an elevated green. There was another hole that somehow registered as a Par-5 but measured well under 400 yards from the white tees. Another Par-5 on the back nine involved playing a series of irons around a fairway in the shape of a semi circle. You get the picture. I'm a big supporter of affordable, public golf courses and I believe, have very reasonable expectations when stepping away from some of the nicer private tracks I am incredibly lucky to play most weeks. In this case though, I'm afraid the nature of the course's layout is such that I likely won't return. read more

Fairways of Canton is a gem of a course located in Canton, Georgia, about a 45-minute drive northwest from Atlanta. It's situated in the North Georgia mountains (or at least, in the foothills) so there are several scenic holes with breathtaking views and dramatic elevation changes. It's a beautiful course, better than my playing partners and I expected, and the course conditioning is excellent too. I recommend any avid golfer in metro Atlanta give it a try. It's one of the better public courses I've played in the state to date. And the value is one of the best around. The course opened in 2007, right before the Great Recession. Unlike some courses, which went downhill after the recession, Fairways of Canton looks to have been well-maintained and is in good to great shape, from the sizable clubhouse to the course itself. Even the lawn in front of the clubhouse looks like a nicely manicured fairway. Now this place isn't perfect -- the driving range hitting stations consist of more dirt than grass, the practice bunker needs an overhaul, and the tee boxes and fairways aren't completely devoid of crabgrass (weeds). However, for the price you pay, this place is tremendous value. At the time of writing this review, the highest posted rate to play, on weekends and holidays before 1pm, is $48 plus tax. My buddies and I played here on a Sunday morning for a total of only $39.75 (taxes and fees included) per person. I booked our tee time directly through Fairways of Canton's website at http://fairwaysofcanton.com/. I found the course's website to have the best rate. If I had booked through GolfNow, the price would have been $42.24 (taxes and fees included) per person. No tee times were available on TeeOff.com. Both Fairways of Canton and GolfNow required a small amount due upfront. For us, that amount was $1.99 per person (included in the $39.75 above; we paid the remaining balance at the course). $40 on a weekend morning for a course of this caliber is a deal. Many lower-quality courses in metro Atlanta charge $50 and up. Really, the only downside to Fairways of Canton is its location. It's far for a lot of people. The driving range consists of roughly 20 hitting stations. You hit downhill. I believe the yardages shown on the signs in the distance are adjusted. The practice putting green is nice and big with plenty of slope. That slope is needed because 14 of the course's 18 greens have at least two tiers. There's a practice short game area with two greens and a bunker. The course has five sets of tees. From the tips (blacks), the course is 6,301 yards long with a rating/slope of 72.5/135. From the middle tees (whites), where I normally play from, the course measures only 5,494 yards with a 68.1/123 rating/slope. I would consider this course's difficulty to be moderate. It's fun for all skill levels as long as everyone is honest with their abilities and plays from the appropriate tees. The course par is 72 or 73 depending on which tees you play from. The back nine always plays to par 37 (three par-5s). It's the front nine that varies - either par 35 or 36. The scorecard is helpful because it has a page, back and front, dedicated to hole layouts and pin positions. The sketches for the greens even show tier demarcations. Greens 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, and 18 have two tiers. Green 8 is a special three-tier green. While a lot of the greens are large, landing your approach shot on the correct tier is essential to shooting a good score on this course. The course is located in a nice, large subdivision called Laurel Canyon. Most of the fairways are tree-lined though some have their fair share of houses too. I can see why this place is named Fairways of Canton because the course consists mostly of fairways with, I'd venture to guess, much less bunkers than the average course. Also, only two bodies of water (small ponds) come into play. Reading this, you'd probably think this is a boring course, but it's actually not. The holes are surprisingly diverse and interesting thanks in large part to the natural terrain. It's quite hilly in these parts. Therefore, you're treated to some high-elevation tee boxes and greens with terrific, sweeping vistas. In this sense, this course reminds me of another course nearby, Callahan Golf Links in Waleska, less than a 10-minute drive north. I like Callahan too, but Fairways of Canton is the superior of the two, especially in terms of scenery. The most memorable holes to me are Nos. 14 and 18. No. 14 is a mid-range par-3 with a significant elevation drop (about 2-3 clubs I'd say). No. 18 is the same, except it's a par-5, dogleg left back to the clubhouse. The views from 17 green and 18 tee, among the highest points on the course elevation-wise, are simply spectacular. Course conditions, for the most part, are fantastic from tee to green. The Yahama gas-powered golf carts appear fairly new and are fantastic quality. Service is great. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

Played here last weekend for the first time in a couple years. A bit disappointed in condition of greens and fairways. Lots of crabgrass, fungus on greens. One green, 16, had lines of ants marching across in trenches. The restrooms on the course aka portapotties, were horrible. My wife opened one and said ones at the end of the Kentucky Derby with 150,000 people were better. The carts did have nice pep and comfy seats. I thought with all the new housing they would keep up the Course. Not sure who the management company is but it needs to step it up or they won't get the rounds in to keep it up. They keep advertising the restaurant which seemed Nice, but I am there for golf since I don't live there. Maybe residents don't care if the major amenity of the development is sliding downhill but if it becomes a cow pasture they might. read more

This is a pretty nice layout. The people in the pro shop and restaurant are very nice. Nice improvement! The course has a driving range, chipping area and putting greens. The course plays well for being on the mountain with nice fairways and greens. The Tee boxes are hard as a rock. Use plastic tees! Greens are good and the experience, over all, is very good! read more

First time out, although 70 for a weekend is a little high for this course, IMO. The views are outstanding and made a wonderful relaxing Saturday morning golf trip . I enjoyed the lunch afterwards also . Good bar food ... burgers, wings fish and chips . Tee boxes are a little hard but overall this place is an excellent choice . Thanks read more

Beautiful views from this course and by most standards, pretty reasonable. The cafe on the property is not bad and apparently undergoing renovations. The panoramic views offer a majestic view of the mountains so I'm really looking forward to visiting again when the leaves change. Drinks and food are simple and on the cheap so if you are golfing on a budget, or just want to eat at a decent place with a gorgeous view without the hefty blow to your wallet, go here! They offer trivia night on Thursday's and reservations for this event are required (ie, lots of locals show up for this) but it is a much older crowd, so I felt like a spring chicken again! read more

Fairways of Canton holds a special place in my heart because it holds my late brother's annual golf tournament for our charity called the Bend You Knees Foundation in honor of Collins. I am forever grateful for the staff and management there. But that aside this course is breathtaking, challenging, and world class. It's always in pristine condition and the clubhouse restaurant takes extra good care of you, the tee time prices are very reasonable for the quality course you get to perform on. read more

My review of this golf course is directed at the golf pro (Derek Sauser). Derek is great to work with and very encouraging when providing golf lessons. Derek provides a common sense approach to the golf swing. He breaks down the golf swing to make it simple and make it repeatable. Dereks approach to the golf swing fixed flaws that have existed in my golf stroke for years in just a few lessons. I still have a lot work to do but I'm already more consistent. In addition I have a pain free swing for the first time in my game. I cant recommend Derek enough. read more

My buddies and I went to this golf course for a birthday get together, unfortunately, this was the worst golf course I have ever been to and absolutely do not recommend to anyone. The people in front of us were slow, which we did not mind, however the group behind us was very rude and made multiple calls to the club house complaining. Not to mention cursing at as during our backswings. After being confronted by the club house management and reasonably complying, they proceeded to follow and linger as we played the rest of our game. I 100% do not recommend anyone go to this course. The owner (management) is unreasonably rude and not worth the money. If I could have given a 0 out of 5 review I would read more

They named this course poorly. You shouldn't name your business after one of the poor points of your course. Their fairways weren't fairways. Pasture would have served a better purpose. The 'fairways' never had even grass, many dead spots, gravel, and was as hard as rock. The greens were inconsistent as well. One would be smooth as glass, and packed with sand, and others were slow, and seemed as if they hadn't been groomed. I only give this course two stars because the views here are actually pretty legit. This course has a lot of potential. They really need to spend the money required on fairways and maintaining greens. Also the starter was a bit of pain because he basically tried to reteach us the rules of golf. read more

Played this course for the first time today. I could not believe, for this time of year, the great condition the fairways and especially the greens were in . Played from the white tees as a senior golfer and found the course very fair but sometimes challenging in a good way. Like I even managed a second shot 3 wood across a pond on the 3rd hole and felt like a pro. The 9th hole was fun playing over water instead of playing safe and off to the side. Playing the 18th was spectacular in the evening sun. The vistas from some of the tee boxes are amazing. Will be a repeat player on this course for sure. read more

Saturday, October 29th, 2016 The Starter and Ranger are supposed to make a round of golf more enjoyable and timely; unfortunately, Fairways of Canton has missed the mark. On our day of play, Saturday, October 29, 2016, there was no Starter visible. After waiting 10 minutes beyond our 1:10pm tee time, our foursome decided to begin. Another group arrived behind us, saying they were late for their 12:45 tee time. We allowed them to play first and began our round at 1:20pm. Another foursome was right behind us and immediately began play. There was a delay on each hole based on the group in front of us. The Ranger was quite visible and helped us retrieve both a putter and a wedge. When we reached the 15th hole, the Ranger appeared and said, "I thought I was done with you people. There are 5 open holes in front of you. If you do not speed up, I am going to ask you to leave. You are holding up everyone one the course!" This was not only uncalled for, but totally unprofessional. In reviewing pace of play for this course, it states 4 hours and 5 minutes; our play was 4 hours and 10 minutes - pretty much on pace given the rocky start and delays of the team in front of us! Your patronage is not appreciated (nor welcomed) at Fairways of Canton. We recommend you find another course to play. read more
