My sister enjoyed a plate of chicken wings which was enjoyed. Only things lacking were the celery and blue cheese dip which are normally a part an order of wings. There was a $2 surcharge if you desired these condiments. The pub itself was showing its 100 year old comfort, very clean with a spectacular view of the ocean. Staff was friendly and attentive. We will certainly be back!

The ocean view is still as great as ever in this popular local which manages to attract both young and old. Pretty much the usual suspects for beer with a rotating tap that can be a bit of a crap shoot. At times, I've lucked out and had Powell River's Townsite Brewing IPA or Saanichton's Category 12's Vivid Data IPA, while more often than not it has been the ubiquitous but still very good Fat Tug IPA. Apart from that, it's the usual suspects. Food is mainly decent, the pulled pork sandwich and tacos, house fries, homemade soups, and burgers all being quite good. Prices are average, so be sure to check out the daily specials. Monday night's cheeseburger special for around $10 has never disappointed, especially with the rotating tap on special, too, for about $4. A recent Tuesday visit for their taco specials was pedestrian at best; they had sold out of the pulled pork tacos, so we settled for the okay chicken tacos and terrible ground beef tacos. On another occasion, the chicken burger special had been slathered in a sauce that made a knife and fork mandatory - not really what I'm looking for in a burger. Nothing fancy, just decent hot pub food, cold bevies, friendly attentive service that can be slow during the dinner rush, and reasonable prices. Definitely an old school pub with a special charm of its own.

Great food... but apparently "Social House" doesn't mean socialize…read more We visited Browns Socialhouse Nanaimo on Saturday, September 5 for our anniversary dinner. We'd made a reservation through Yelp and requested a booth. When we arrived, the hostess told us, "Oh, it looks like someone was seated at your reservation." So instead of the nice, darker corner booth we were expecting for an anniversary dinner, we were seated right at the bright front window with a romantic view of... a car. And can we talk about those front chairs? I'm a size 16 woman and could barely get my ass comfortably into one. Bigger gals, consider this your warning. Maybe that's the business strategy: tiny chairs = eat faster = table turnover. Thankfully, the FOOD was excellent. Seriously, 5. Everything tasted delicious, and our server was great throughout the meal. Then we finished eating. Apparently that activated the GET OUT sequence. We ordered a second round of drinks. My cocktail arrived, and literally about a minute later--while it was still completely full--we were asked if we wanted the bill. Shortly after that, the bill and debit machine arrived. My husband was in the washroom and I was asked whether she needed to wait for him. Nope, I paid. Meanwhile, I still hadn't even taken a sip of the drink I'd JUST ordered. Once I'd paid, I felt like our anniversary dinner was officially over whether we were ready or not. Maybe give people five minutes to actually enjoy the cocktail they just bought? I might even have ordered another one! A simple "Whenever you're ready, no rush" would have made a huge difference. And then there's the parking lot. If you drive a truck, good luck. Between the tiny spaces and all the 15-minute, 30-minute, Starbucks-only, Noodlebox-only, Little Caesars-only spots, apparently you need to arrive in a Smart car. Food: Service while eating: Service once finished eating: Ambience: Noise level: LOUD So our takeaway from Browns Socialhouse: bring a small car, a small ass, and apparently don't plan on doing too much socializing over a couple of drinks. The food was fantastic. Unfortunately, the overall experience made for a pretty shitty anniversary dinner.

I started with the flavorful lemon merengue martini. Yum! The wine selection was pleasing, and we able to order both a chardonnay and a cabernet. My husband had the potato leek soup and I enjoyed the stuffed mushroom caps as our appetizers. They were both delicious! For dinner, he had the special of the day - stuffed chicken with Mashed potatoes and vegetables. The chicken was perfection and the mashed potatoes were incredible. I had the seafood crepe with garlic bread and vegetables. I'm so glad I tried this! It was rich and savory, without feeling too heavy. To finish things off, we shared the sticky date cake - a dessert that is a must-try. It's clear that they take great pride in their food, beverages and service. Other than recommending every item we ordered, I'd also suggest making a reservation ahead of time since this is a small restaurant. You won't be disappointed dining at Chameleons!

It is a small but charming venue, with comforting jazzy standards playing quietly in the background. Had a glass of BC wine and the crab cakes. They were not made with lump crab, but whatever binding they used was light enough and didn't get in the way of the flavor. Fully enjoyed my experience and felt very cared for, despite the busy atmosphere!
