I've been using fairwinds 15 years and it just gets worse and worse. They have a couple of good people at the branch I deal with and that's the reason I keep putting up with it because I don't wanna go through the hassle of switching but I did open up a VyStar account. I'm at the Sanford branch today. Downtown. People are in line for the drive-through ATM. Nobody can get any money I go inside the manager is having good old jovial time with two other employees, laughing and carrying on while the drive-through is backed up and there are five people in line at the bank with three people to do both the drive-through and the inside teller. One guy is running around getting McDonald's orders nobody's helping the people behind the glass. I asked about the ATM. The manager takes my card says there's nothing wrong with it. I said I already know that I told you in the beginning it will only allow me to change my pin number or make a deposit. Oh yeah, it's broke. We called for a technician. I'm like why can't you just put a sign up out there, letting people know that it does deposits only you cannot withdraw cash instead of letting them stack up in the line and then have to come inside or get frustrated? Oh well, that's a good idea. I go stand in line I watch three other people pull up listen to them worrying about their McDonald's order and nobody puts up a sign. read more

I picked FAIRWINDS to open a business account because of the amazing reviews. I was able to get an appointment quickly for the same day. The assistant manager was extremely friendly & knowledgeable. Even when I first arrived a staff member offered me a complimentary water bottle. I was extremely impressed by the customer service. It's a very positive environment & wasn't busy either. This place is terrible. It's slow. Seems like the people are not as friendly anymore. There's always a line but always people sitting around, not doing anything. I have found a new place the bank. I wouldn't recommend anyone come to Fairwinds Sanford for banking. It was nice a couple months ago and just has completely spiraled out of control it feels like. Like a completely different bank. To top it off we are at the end of April and I still have a Christmas tree up. That right there should show you the laziness that's running this crap show. read more

Wouldn't recommend Fairwinds to anyone this is the fourth and last time they got me said my card was compromised canceled my card and left me with no money and no gas to get to the bank could not issue me a new card said they had to mail it now I was hit with late fees on three items that were on my card living in Cocoa there is no nearby Fairwinds for me to drive to without taking off work and costing me money ​ their response plus I had access to a bank I could take money out of my account not without leaving work he left me on the side of road and Baltimore Maryland on a Sunday said my card was hacked I was on vacation I had to borrow money to get home last Thanksgiving they did this right before Thanksgiving could not issue me a card so I got to miss out on all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials then they asked if I want a credit card for situations like this shouldn't have to have it wouldn't recommend Fairwinds check on their ratings they got a poor rating and I didn't see it either been with them for 6 years I'm done read more

I went with my wife to to open a checking account for her at the Lake Forest branch in Sanford. My wife does not speak English very well, but I planned to translate to whomever was available. The banker whom was assisting us was Karol Hudson, and all I can say that both my wife and I were so happy that she was able to work with us. She noticed I was speaking to my wife exclusively in Spanish and did all of the explanations for me. It was the easiest experience I could have asked for. Overall, very pleased with our experience. i opened an account with fairwinds because i have had excellent experiences with credit unions in the past and moved out of the local area of my regular bank (midflorida federal credit union - whom i LOVE LOVE LOVE) and had to get a new account. the account opening process was fairly easy. i didn't like the fact that there was no sign in board for those needing help and no one was at the information desk or anywhere but the one person in the line for actual banking. i waited about 15 minutes to be helped an wandered around looking for someone to help me until the woman came out of the cashier area and told me to have a seat and someone would be with me in a minute. the people who helped me signed up were very nice but there were definitely some irritating things they didn't mention to me in the sign up process or told me afterward which would have altered my perspective on using them as my bank. first, you cannot make atm deposits for 90 days because they want proof the account is in good standing! so you have to go when they are open or use the night drop which is extremely frustrating and contrary to every other bank i have used in my life. i work at night so i am not always able to make it before they close with the other things i have to do during the day. and using the night drop you get no receipt of your deposit like you would via the atm. second, i have to remember a member number and then SEPARATE numbers for each account on that member number (savings, checking, loan, etc). you cannot make your login online something easy to remember but have to use your member number. for deposits i have to remember my member number and my account number depending on what/how i am depositing. they actually changed it from only using ONE number to making you know several according to the girl i signed up with after the whole process was done and i was told i had to know a few numbers and i asked why it wasn't like every other bank. this is not the safest thing for most people who have e nough trouble remembering one long account number let alone multiples for one banking institution. i had to write them down in several places to just remember them depending on if i was at home, online or out and about and needed to make a last minute trip to the bank. it was just asking for someone to steal my info but i couldn't remember the numbers that easily. someone made a typing error and messed up my information on my original checks and i had to wait another 7 business days to receive the corrected ones which meant i was without checks for almost 3 weeks. they did replace them for free thankfully but i still paid $16 for the checks in the first place. the people are very, very nice. the branches themselves are gorgeous and much more comfortable to be in than other banks. but the systems they have in place are ridiculous compared to what every other bank uses. i have never disliked a bank so much in my life and i pray for the day that midflorida moves into my area or i move back to them. the only reason i stay with them is that i hate regular banks and their random fees more than fairwinds irritating methods. read more
