Super soft and savory falafel I have ate! Delishh sandwich
Sandra S.

One of the best and most softest falafels I have had. The sandwich was amazing & the vegetables were so fresh and complemented the sandwich and falafel so well! Bread was so soft and delicious! Sauce was also very tasty! Super delish and I will be coming back!

New location - same great falafel

Having eaten falafel in Haifa, in Jerusalem, at Mamouns in the village since the early 1970's and at Famous Pita on Coney Island Avenue in 2002, when I was introduced to Falafel Tanami by some friends as one of the best falafel places ever, I was of course skeptical. I was wrong. It is! Great flavor, not oily and a comfortable informal restaurant - it's the real thing!

Small hole in the wall, somewhat diverse in its overall look. They make falafel and they make it extremely well. The staff serving you are genuinely friendly and want to please you. Whatever you want, no matter the quantity they will put i in your pita. Food is fresh and delicious, peppers are spicy even though I thought they wouldn't be. Falafel balls are loose and soft but don't fall apart. The line moes fast and the balls keep coming out hot and fresh. Prices just went upon one dollar, the pita is now $9 each, still worth the price.

Egg plant and fries to add into pita if needed

Wow! This place is a gem tucked away in Brooklyn. It's a bit far of a commute if you're in Manhattan but conveniently it's close to one of the subway station. We came on a Saturday morning right after they opened and there was no line. I got the full sized falafel pita sandwhich but honestly they stuff it so much one is big enough to share with two people. I probably would just get the half size next time. You can choose any ingredients you see on the counter including eggplants, fries, cabbages, pickled veggies, etc. Definitely make sure to get the pink minced garlic sauce, it's amazing! I asked them to put some of the pickled pepper and the baby picked eggplant on the side so I cans savor it later without overfilling my sandwich. I actually was never a fan of falafel until I ate the falafel pita sandwich here. It tasted so fresh and paired so nicely with all the sauces they have in house. The unlimited toppings also adds to the excitement as I'm a big fan of vegetables. They have small standing table area indoors as well as outdoor seating. The place is quite small so don't expect to always find seating so you might have to plan to take your food to go if it's too busy. The staff is super friendly. They take both credit and cash!

They do falafel so damn well here. Being here transported me back to Israel. My biking group, queer joy ride ended our ride here last night and man I wasn't even hungry but the half falafel I got hit the spot. I got the half falafel with pickles, fries, purple cabbage, a little tachina and chummus. They even have Israeli hand soap by the sink! Truly a taste of Israel, I look forward to my return. They have a few tables outside their brick and mortar establishment that is enclosed.

It was our final day in NYC for a few months. Time to enjoy Israeli street food in Midwood, Brooklyn. I go to Israel often, so I can't help but know what good falafel pitas should be like. This was it!! I got a falafel pitas. The pita was fresh & tasty & soft. The generous falafel inside was perfectly flavored & cooked fresh. Lots of chickpea, parsley, & seasonings made this fantastic. At the pita bar I chose many toppings to stuff the pita. I added Israeli Salad, eggplant, red cabbage, tahini, pickles, & so on. What a fantastic meal.

Had to run an errand to this area and thought maybe I can get a falafel in these parts. So yelped it. Saw quite a few listed, drove to one and thought yeah it looks nice but something drew me to this falafel spot. The real deal. Well deserving of its kudos. Hustling and bustle of a tiny place. I knew I was at the right spot. Prices are great and the falafel was scrumptious! I decided to only get a half sandwich thinking a whole would be too big for a snack. Maybe I should have lol. But the half was sooo good. It's like a roadside shack feel inside. Has some tables to sit at in enclosed space outside (that could be a little cleaner ). Otherwise loved that I ventured to this falafel joint.

I went there today. It's my favorite place for falafel. This is the best falafel place. I was here a few months ago. The manager is great and he remembered me from my past visit. . I live in Maryland and it doesn't match the quality of Falafel Tanami !!! Their food is prepared fresh and they're consistent. I come to New York every 6-8 weeks and I try to go to Falafel Tanami when I'm here. Don't let the hole in the wall place fool you. They make the best falafel second to none. I've taken photos to prove it.

Falafel pita (takeout/eat at home) - with amazing hot chili sauce

My husband has been raving about this place for a while now and told me he was bringing me the "famous falafel pita sandwich." I thought: whatever... but OMG I was not prepared for how gobsmackingly good it is! The soft pita is stuffed to the brim with fluffy, deliciously seasoned falafel balls and flavorful pickled veggies & fixins - you can customize the toppings - and the combination of flavors is just mwwwah! Truly world class. I also can't get enough of the amazing chili sauce/oil. Be careful with the grilled jalapeños though as you might hit on one that carries some serious tear-inducing heat! Take it from a bonafide spicehead and heat seeker. Just so, so, so good. The best falafel pita I've ever had!

Have been here a few times now for both lunch and dinner (weekends and weekdays) and the food and…read moreservice is always great. I first went to Hummus Kitchen at their UES location, but this one is equally wonderful. The space is on the smaller side (a bit narrow) and they have indoor seating for around 20-25 people. I recommend making a reservation in advance. The servers are friendly, attentive and the food comes out fairly quickly. As the name implies, the hummus here is excellent as is the thick pita it comes with (they have regular and whole wheat). If you haven't been before, get "the hummus kitchen" as it has 4 different types of hummus you can try. The mazze are also tasty, my favorite would have to be the grape leaves, but the falafel, cauliflower and babaghanoush are also extremely delicious (you can order any 3 for $28 and it comes with pita). For entrees, I highly highly recommend the chicken shawarma tacos (2 per serving) followed by the open arais tacos (also 2 per serving) and the Mediterranean red chicken (in that order). If you don't go with the shawarma tacos or want less bread, then the shawarma platter is also a good choice. The chicken shawarma tacos here are simply incredible, they serve them in their warm fluffy pita, sliced in half, open and fill the inside with chicken, onions and whatever else makes is so ridiculously addictive. This thing is bursting with flavor, it has to be the best chicken shawarma I have had in NYC. The tacos also come with a small side of hummus and babaghanoush along with pickles and some tomato salad. The portions are what you would expect as are the prices. Really a delicious spot if you are in the area or want a great/quick meal before or after a show.

I do think they do as good of a job managing it as possible, but it is still quite the long line. If you do decide to wait in the line, I recommend sending a friend over to Magnolia Bakery to get you a treat while you pass the time. Overall, the lamb and chicken were extremely tender and flavorful. The sauce and rice were great as well, complementing them perfectly. The service is very efficient, and they do have a few cards set up to maximize the efficiency. It was great, and I'd say it's worth trying if the line is short! Otherwise, I would pivot to another nearby great option that you can easily find.

Adel's Famous Halal Food definitely lived up to the hype. Be prepared to wait--lines can stretch down the block, especially late at night--but the food is worth the patience. We ordered the Mixed Chicken and Lamb Over Spicy Rice along with a Lamb Gyro Sandwich. The platter was massive, piled high with tender chicken and lamb, flavorful spicy rice, fresh salad, and a generous drizzle of their signature white and red sauces. Every bite was packed with flavor, with the perfectly seasoned meat and spicy rice creating the ideal combination. The portions were easily enough to share, making it an incredible value for the price. The Lamb Gyro Sandwich was equally impressive. Stuffed with juicy lamb, crisp lettuce, fresh vegetables, and creamy sauce wrapped in warm pita bread, it was simple but incredibly satisfying. The meat was flavorful and well-seasoned, while the fresh toppings added the perfect balance. The atmosphere adds to the experience as well--watching the crew work nonstop on the grill, serving a constant stream of customers under the bright city lights, makes it feel like a true New York food adventure. If you're visiting NYC and looking for a late-night meal or one of the city's most iconic halal food experiences, Adel's Famous Halal Food is a must-try. Huge portions, bold flavors, and an authentic street-food vibe make it one of the best halal carts in Manhattan.

BUT, imho Adel's doesn't really taste as good as the original Halal Guys in terms of flavor and fragrance. The chicken from Adel's is in bigger chunks and some argue is more tender, but the flavor is definitely not close. Also, it's important that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes and a little onion to balance everything out. Finally, You must get both the spicy red and white sauce together to make it all come together! The Ugly: The smell is addictive, so if you walk by, it's hard to resist, even if you've just eaten a nice meal somewhere else. We couldn't resist. Gotta hit the gym hard for the next few days!

And that line is no joke. You will wait. Plan accordingly. Here's my dilemma: every single time I eat here, my stomach lets me know about it later. Without fail. At this point I have to accept that it's probably not for me. So why do I keep coming back? Because at 2 AM after a late night, when everything else is closed and you're starving in Times Square, that platter of chicken and rice over white sauce smells like salvation. They're the only game in town at that hour, and honestly, in the moment, it hits. It's the next morning I regret it. If your stomach handles it better than mine, you'll probably love it.
