It's very fun to be able to dress up for this event and just enjoy the day with friends and family. The souvenirs are super expensive but that's probably due to vendors trying to make up what they paid in the set up fee. It's still super cool stuff. It's extremely hot in July but luckily there is a lot of shade and spots to sit. I would recommend going at least once!

The festival grounds are beautiful and so unique from other Renaissance Festivals! It is exceptionally well run, especially for a seasonal operation. Parking, traffic, maintenance, entertainment are impressive. Walking through the festival felt like being at Costco on its busiest Saturday of all times. I actually enjoy being somewhere that's so popular. A packed event creates a fun energy. However- the festival has become a victim of its own popularity. Even at 3pm, food lines are 100+ deep, and last hours. The problem isn't admission capacity but the ability to feed guests. Demand has simply outgrown the infrastructure for food service. I left after a couple hours without buying food or drinks, simply because I wasn't able to. This represents lost revenue for vendors as well as a worse guest experience. I'm not sure what the solution is. But I'd really hope the owners can figure something out. The festival keeps admission and food reasonably priced, and it's clear that a tremendous amount of work goes into creating such a wonderful event. Unfortunately, at this point, the festival has become a victim of its own success. Hurts me to type this, but I think they need to think about limiting attendance or increasing ticket and food prices enough to reduce crowding and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. By now, my husband was already walking in - it was too hot to sit in the car and since he had the keys, I was out of good options. Walking in, I noticed that this museum lacked pretension. You buy tickets at a desk a few steps from the door. But don't let the casualness of the check-in process deceive you. This museum is a labor of love by those who want to share their knowledge and passion to those of us lacking either. I was immediately sucked in... So many amazing displays, easy to read, easy to understand. You could read as much or as little as you'd like. There is so much more than just gold - other precious metals, gems and the king of all mining - coal were on display. One room that blew my mind contained cases of various ores that were luminescent under black light. So cool. I mean, really, who knew these even existed? We really did need to get on the road and this time it was my husband dragging me out, I could have spent the rest of the afternoon there - reading all of the displays and watching the available videos. This isn't meant to be negative but the overall experience was mediocre. My son had really high expectations when we told him that we were going to see dinosaurs. There were only a few stations where he could safely touch things. Unfortunately prehistoric poop was one or two of them. There were a couple guides giving tours and explanations but they didn't grab the attention of our toddler so we moved on. The entire economy is a small circle of the least known dinosaurs. I think it's worth stopping in if you're in the area and maybe with enough support it will grow in the future.

We sat in traffic for over 2 hours to go 10 miles, from I-25 to the facility. The police were not allowing cars to go through Larkspur, forcing the detour to Rt 105. 2. It is NOT handicap accessible; very hilly, no paved walks to go up to the food or shops. 3. The bathroom facilities were ok but not nearly enough of them. Of course, they badly needed to be cleaned. 4. The lines for food were a mess and you had to go to different windows to get what you wanted, for example french fries at one window, turkey legs at another, etc. Beer and soda at other places. Some picnic tables at the food areas, but more at another area that was poorly marked. 5. Individual stores were interesting and the folks working them were very nice. 6. Most of the festival employees were nice, but one person in character tossed water at us while we were in the food line. 7. IF YOU GO, get there early, when they open. 8. IF YOU GO, take a picture of the trees near where you park, so you can find your way back to the car. 9. Parking is in a grass field, and quite a walk from the entrance, especially if you arrive after noon. 10. Entertainment? can't answer that, by the time we arrived, got something to eat, used the bathrooms, went to a few shops, decided we were too tired to actually try to find a place to watch a show.

It's fun, weird, and had been for as long as Star Trek fans have been showing up to Ren festivals dressed as aliens. It makes little sense but it's a lot of amusement. They have Turkey legs.
