I found Dr. Downhill one day when I took my elderly cat there because she was having issues with going to the bathroom. I called several vets that could not take me for several days, but I kept calling until I found one that would. I rescued this cat when my neighbors moved away, she got out and they didn't want to wait around to look for her. Obviously I had no idea what had gone on with her health in the past. Long story short I took her in and the doctor took care of us right away. Since she is an older cat the doctor suggested a blood test, which I am glad she did because it was at that point I found out she had Chronic Kidney Disease. In my opinion, she is incredibly caring and is very dedicated. She has helped me so much with my cat's needs, subQ fluids, etc. and her pricing is very reasonable compared to the rest of the rip off vets in this area. She also won't suggest anything you don't need. If she suggests something you can feel confident that is exactly what is needed. If you can appreciate an honest, no-nonsense approach I highly recommend her. I promise she will go out of her way to help you and your pet. Worse Vet in town. DO NOT GO HERE!!! The front office does not understand how prescriptions are done or where they can go. You will spend more by going to them than anywhere else. Had an emergency that was EASILY avoidable with just a simple prescription. Nothing like steroids or anything classified. Took longer than a week to get nothing from them and had to go to a new vet to get his medication. I spoke with another Vet, who was amazing, they said they have heard terrible stories about this place and that I need to report my incident because they have heard to many stories like mine. Yep My little man Louie was back at Fallbrook veterinarian again today. Louie has been coughing a lot and again has diarrhea. I was concerned that he might have a growth in his throat but I was so wrong-:(. Dr. Jody said his throat is fine and she wanted to do a chest X-ray, which of course I approved. Dr.Jody also said she wanted to give him IV fluid. Louie chest X-ray showed that his heart is enlarged and he needs to go on heart medication and to stop his kidney formula diet and start him on a heart formula diet. Its a very sad day for me, Louie is my little buddy and I don't want to lose him. Dr.Jody said she'd do her very best to keep him here a while longer. Louie has always gotten the best care possible at Fallbrook Veterinarian and Dr.Jody has provided the best care as though Louie was her own. Her staff are always kind, professional. I've lost track of how many years Louie has been her patient but it's been many and for that I'm so Thankful for Dr.Jody as well as her staff. I pray that Louie will continue for more years. We all love our animals and most of us will do anything for them. I believe some vets prey on this and use it to make as much money as they can while using terms like "standard of care" or adding a battery of test to pad the bill. All that said, Dr. Jody Downhill is the BEST vet I have encountered in my over 25 years of pet ownership. She has taken care of both my bridge dogs for over 12 years. About two years ago. My dog developed cancer at age 12. Dr. Jody advised me that she could recommend an oncologist, however she advised against it as with would buy maybe 8-12 more months and cost thousands. Her advice instead was to enjoy him as much as possible before the inevitable. He lived for about 4 month until the tumor became too large. "You've created a monster". These were the words the Dr. used. First our kitten is barely 3 months old. Second you don't allow pet owners to come in. Third you're wearing a mask, hat and you are a different race than us. Our kitten was scared and so yes he's going to swat and back away. He has never hissed at us, our son or guests that have come over. How about you allow one owner come in and help handle the kitten - I wouldn't let my son go into the Dr's office by himself expecting a nurse to handle him. $70 down the drain as we now have to administer de-worm solution. We will be finding a new vet that will have not only bed-side manner but empathy that a 3 month old kitten might be scared with a stranger trying to handle him. RIDICULOUS! read more

I called on Friday 4*5*19 at around 5:30pm because I knew something was no right with Dory. I was told that yes, I could take Dory in without an appointment. I rushed over there and made it at like 5:45-5:50pm. Dory had diarrhea for 2 days and her tail wasn't going up at all that she pooped on her own tail. Dory was seen right away when I got in. She had a fever, was dehydrated and had lots of bacteria in her poop. She was given a shot to stop the diarrhea hand IV fluids right away. I was given antibiotics to take home for her as well. Dr. Jody was amazing!! She sat and spoke to us longer than any vet has ever spoke to us before. She asked so many questions trying to get to the bottom of the issue with Dory. Just 2 days later and she felt so much better. Her tail was up and she was running around. She's still on antibiotics but just knowing her tail is wagging again gives me peace of mind. I couldn't not thank you enough!!! We will definitely be going back. I'm always so skeptical about visiting new vets for my babies but Dr. Jody you were amazing! read more

I can't say how disappointed I am with this vet. I brought my 12 week old pug puppy to get her shots and wanted to find out if she still has Gaurdia. It's been eight days and nobody has told me if she has it or not. I've called six or seven times. The doctor never calls me back. I'm furious. My friend also started using this vet the same week that I did and we both have had the same experience. If I could've given this place zero stars I would have. Update: She finally called; my 12 week pup does have Guardia!!! HOW IRRESPONSIBLE. Untreated Guardia can kill a puppy! After I pick up meds I will never return!!! read more

ZERO STARS. EVIL VET AND ESTABLISHMENT. A few days ago, I brought my dog in as a new client since my primary vet (VCA Parkwood with Dr Herbeck, who's amazing) wasn't available and all other vets weren't taking new clients, he was extremely sick vomiting food and water for 3 days. I set an appointment at 11:15, I got there at 11am to fill out paperwork.... As we waited in the car for going on an hour, I checked out the Yelp reviews, it gave me a knot in my stomach and just as I was about to book it and try to go somewhere else, the vet "Dr Downhill" came out to take him in. And what follows was precisely a *downhill* experience.... This vet still has "covid measures" in place so you can't even go in with your pet. I think she's wants to keep covid measures in place forever so she doesn't have to answer to clients or be held accountable for what she is or isn't doing in person. Anyways, after she brought my dog in, she hardly gave me any update but had an attitude over the phone, my dog was there for over 8HOURS and she didn't even have the patience to give me a clear update on my dog and what she's really doing with him. They didn't even give us an estimate for services rendered. I called every 2 hours since my dog has never been at a vet this long and there has been no explanation to justify why he's been here so long. When I called to ask what's going on can I pick my dog up, no not yet I'll get back to you. By the 8 hour mark I imagined he would have to pee, they didn't take him pee until I asked them todo it ! The vet sarcastically responded "well alright we will leash him and take him out " apparently he didn't pee when they took him out. She then called me just to say "if my dog wanted to pee he would have done it." My dog is so well trained he would never pee in a kennel. But I doubt they took him outside to pee. Finally after closing we had enough and wanted our dog back, the vet barely wanted to give our dog up it's as if she was holding him hostage and we barely know what's going on with him except he's gotten fluids, for 8 hours x rays and bloodwork. We almost felt as if maybe nothing was done. We called again at the 7 hour mark to pick up our dog and the vet said in a condescending manner " you have people before you so I will work with them and get back to your dog. AGAIN OUR APPOINTMENT WAS AT 11:15AM AND NOW ITS 7PM!!! They are technically closed at 6pm We finally show up and had to wait another 30 min just to get a bill, with a bill of $800 with ZERO ESTIMATE given to us. We had no idea she was "hospitalizing our dog" no information was really given to us. The vet then has the audacity to give us a cup to obtain a urine sample when we get home since they didn't do that while he was there for 8 hours. Ummmm you didn't get the urine sample ???? Every reputable vet has no problem with that, for $800 you'd think they'd take care of that since it came with the package. Obtaining a urine sample while he was there would have probably given my dog some RELIEF for not being taken out to pee for over 8 hours !! I get home and my dog peed 5 times at once and then pood he was holding it in all day because they left him in a kennel for 8 hours after giving him 3 bags of fluid. So evil! The following day after this appointment my dog was even worse, he was now leaking urine which was a rust color and his stool looked like black tar. We had to euthanize my dog yesterday with our primary vet because he was suffering with liver failure and internal bleeding. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET. EVEN IF YOU ARE DESPERATE DO NOT GIVE THIS VET ACCESS TO YOUR DOG OR YOUR MONEY. read more

I have been going to this vet for years despite her being rude and her office an unorganized mess. Wait times are always an hour minimum. The last straw was the other day when I took my sick extremely anxious dog in for treatment because she had not been eating and she was vomiting. I waited in the car for an hour. Apparently they are never going to get rid of their Covid restrictions. They do not allow you to come in with your sick animals. As I said, my dog suffers from extreme anxiety. I reluctantly let her go in with the receptionist. they told me they were going to keep her for fluids. I called 3 hours later, and the receptionist said that they had been very busy and was unable to give her her fluids. So my dog was sitting in a cage for three hours without fluids? I could hear her barking in the background. I called back and asked why she had not been given fluids, then she backpedaled and said she had received fluids, but needed more. Every time I called, I could hear my dog barking in the background, considering she was very sick. I'm sure it took all of her energy to bark, I asked if my dog was barking and they denied it. I know my dogs bark. I went back to pick her up at 5:30. I waited over an hour outside. There was an old man and I, we were standing in front of the door, Doctor downhill came and yelled at us to get back into our cars and we were not to stand outside of the door. I guess because her prices are cheap. She assumes that she can yell at her patients? She told me to bring the dog back in the following day for an x-ray. But there's no way and I'm going to leave my sick dog in there to be traumatized while I have to stay in the car. Clearly she is taking advantage of Covid restrictions and making them indefinite.. If I could give negative stars, I would. My family brought our dog here in 2016, as she was dying of old age. This particular morning our dog could no longer walk and fell unconscious due to a tumor that had burst on one of her organs. She had internal bleeding and was pretty much a goner by the time we got her to this vet who was extremely rude, cold, and rushed us into surgery and blood transfusions to "save" her. After 6+ hours of "surgery" & being forced to pay up front for blood transfusions and other random costs, this vet had us enter the examination room to say goodbye to our dog due to the failed surgery. She should have never forced us to operate in the first place. She gave us false confidence that it would be successful and rushed us into signing documents and paying up front. After our dog had passed and we were ready to leave she presented an additional bill for thousands of dollars and refused to itemize it or explain what the costs were for. When we tried to ask for more details and questioned the expenses, she pointed out the car that we drove and told us that we shouldn't be questioning her because "we probably have no problem affording it". Absolutely horrible service, they're closed during their regular business hours. Sometimes are open but don't have a tech. They hang up on you before you can get a word in edgewise. The older woman who is the doctor is a complete Karen. She's rude, cuts you off and makes me question her demeanor towards the pets! We brought our dog in for an emergency matter since our regular vet was booked for a week out, and she barely had him in the office, as if she was rushing to leave for the day (the dosage of the antibiotics were not high enough to cure our dog) she then came out asking for a card without explaining the costs and or results. We had to bring our dog back to our normal vet who I HIGHLY recommend (VCA Parkwood Animal Hospital) for another round of antibiotics. Please please do not waste your time going to this clinic. I don't trust our 5 animals with any other vet. We used to live close to her but we now drive far just so our pets have the best care with her. She will charge you with no explanation, only if she really thinks it's necessary. I have saved a lot of money going to this vet. Other vets try doing all weird unnecessary tests that can run up a bill fast. She is a busy vet, so sometimes getting her on the phone can be difficult. But she is busy because she has so many people that trust her with their animals. She has treated our animals for five years now. When she has been closed and one of our animals needed immediate attention, we tried another vet. We were so disappointed. So now we wait even if it's one day just to come to Dr. Downhill.
