It's both a coffee shop and a little book store (and more I.e. jewelry and cards etc.) They have a small menu that includes sandwiches and brats. What a charming spot - its a bookstore, cafe and a ice cream shop - all rolled into one. We were in Munising for the long weekend with family. Stopped by the Falling Rock cafe and Book store after our Pictured Rocks cruise. Its a cafe which has sandwiches and burgers and you are seated in a bookstore! Talk about being unique. There are quite a few options even for vegetarians and the sandwiches and burgers are freshly made. Special mention to their veggie hummus sandwich - it was very good. The best thing about the place is the local ice cream! Yum! We tried the black cherry ice cream - which was fantastic! We liked the ice cream so much we came back the next day again to get some. If you are visiting Munising, this is the place to get lunch and your ice cream fix. You will not be disappointed. read more

I had a salad with smoked Whitefish ($9.29). It was huge, and they gave quite a bit of Whitefish considering the price. My partner had a Grilled Chicken and avocado sandwich ($8.49). He was not sure what kind of bread it was, but thought the sandwich was delicious It had about 4 or 5 chicken strips, and about the same number of avocado strips. It was accompanied by a bunch of potato chips that looked better than they tasted (according to him, anyway). Definitely one of the better establishments in this area. As you can probably tell, there aren't too many options in Munising, but this place makes up for the lack there of. We came here for breakfast a couple mornings. Got some breakfast sandwiches/burritos and a cinnamon roll. It was all delish. But the best part is the atmosphere here. Most of the place is dedicated to their dinning/reading room area and it's great. We've got two little boys and the kids corner reading nook was so so so nice. My husband and I could just sit nearby and watch them play while we ate and they didn't have to sit at the table crying. Perfect! A parents dream come true. This morning (Saturday) someone just laid some fresh flowers at our table and it helps bring a homey atmosphere. I gave it four stars just because the service is a little slow and disorganized. We chanced upon the cafe on our way to dairy Queen to get shakes. The façade doesn't suggest much, a bench outside with a couple of people on it. Stepping in we were overwhelmed by the crowd and one person suggested going elsewhere. How pleased am I that I didn't take his advice. We ordered a couple of icecreams and 13 shakes. The ice cream was very flavorful and rich. I had one scoop of cappuccino and one if Zanzibar, topped with nuts. Very good icecream. My friends had strawberry, vanilla and chocolate shakes. The amount of icecream in the shakes was Mindblowing. The staff was very courteous and patiently completed our order. Even though there were many people the staff were happy to serve. This isn't just a cafe. There is ample seating room, walls lined with bookshelves. Patrons can feel free to read the used books as they snack of drink a coffee. Thr newer books have to be bought to read. The books are arranged by genre. There is a separate arts section where one can buy mementoes. Partons can also play board games. They sell miniature canoes and postcards made of birch veneer. We were so pleased yesterday that we have come back for breakfast today. The first item served was the yogurt parfait which was very good. The portion is very generous. I would highly recommend this cafe to anyone visiting Munising. read more

We sat on the bench outside to eat it, and enjoyed the live music of the guitar group playing and singing in the store. The bookstore offers a great selection, including books on the local area, Michigan, lighthouses, birds and nature. T-shirts, gift items, works by area artists including paintings of the Pictured Rocks area--its a treat just to walk through and look, but a great place to go if you want to bring home a gift or souvenirs. read more

The sandwich is served open faced on your choice of bagel (I chose an everything bagel) with cream cheese, tomato, and a generous portion of smoked white fish. I wish there were better options for coffee/cafes in this area but unfortunately this is all that is there. We just went and grabbed quick coffees before our pictures rocks cruise around 8am. The place was fine and so was the cashier, but the coffee was decent at best. The barista making our coffees was also coughing all over the open cups without covering her mouth. Disgusting. What a lucky find! We were four friends who'd just driven three hours to Musining, for a cruise to the Pictured Rocks. We were driving and looking for a place to eat. In a flash of blessed luck, I said, "How about that place? It has a parking lot." And it also had, from my first glance, the possibility of having food that I, the only vegan in the crowed, could eat. My hopes and wishes were not dashed. Not only did I get good vegan food here, but my three friends very much enjoyed their meals. In fact, we came back after our cruise, so that my friends could have ice cream sundaes. I enjoyed the veggie burger and, later, the hummus sandwich. Both come with chips and a pickle. I should have upgraded to a salad for the additional $2.50, but I did not. Silly me. My friends had grilled cheese sandwiches, beef soup, salads, and a BLT. We all had coffee, which was an excellent brew. You can also make your own deli sandwich, choosing the bread, meat, cheese, and veggie toppings. They have vegan, gluten free, and dairy free options every day. You order your food at the counter and pay then. You get a mini-log with a number on it, which you display on your table. The server brings your food to your table. You bus your own table at the conclusion of your meal. If this place wasn't 450 miles from home, I'd definitely hang out here. The space also includes books for sale, an art gallery and store in back, plenty of games for patrons to play, and musical entertainment. When we stopped back in the evening for the ice cream, a man set up front and played the flute and the ukulele. What a terrific place, Sure wish I could go again. read more
