Overall experience is 2/5, though the actual customer service itself has been more or less great…read more First of all, the phone system for 90% of the departments are AWFUL. It's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of any department (I was calling nearly all of them). And the only department that picked up was Finishline. Jose from this department helped me immensely trying to wrangle the women's shoe department, calling me back to check on my inquiry when I called towards closing and was waiting for a call back from the department I was really trying to reach. I had to do my entire purchase over the phone, as this store was the only store to have the shoe I wanted in my size (I live in a different state), and I needed it ASAP for a special event. Since I called towards closing, I was supposed to get a call back. The women's shoe department failed to do so, so I called finishline again the next day (took me them an hour to pick up). It just felt like a lot of teeth pulling, but finishline and the manager of the men's department (Leticia I think but I don't remember I'm so sorry!) were really trying so hard to get the right apartment together (they physically had to run up stairs to communicate to them)! Super sorry I inconvenienced all the wrong departments, but I am immensely grateful for them! I got my shoes in time. Thank you! But please fix your phones at the cash registers or tell corporate to change the messaging in the automated phones because it was super frustrating spending hours trying to ring a phone.

I recently went in for a complimentary free styling session (booked online) with Megan. She took her time with me and helped me find exactly what I was looking for. The bathrooms are spotless and the salesfloor is pristine.

**Kari's Rating: 8/10** *(Would easily be a 9.5/10 if the beauty department weren't so…read moreoverwhelming.)* TL;DR * The beauty associates are *far* too aggressive--it feels impossible to browse without being approached every few seconds. * The café is still one of my favorite places in Chicago. * Free alterations on Nordstrom purchases and $25 for outside items is a huge plus. I've lived in River North for over eight years, and honestly, there's no place quite like Nordstrom. I grew up coming here with my mom, sitting in the café, eating pizza, and leaving with a "Nordy" balloon. Those are some of my favorite childhood memories, and to this day I still think about their margarita pizza. Now that I'm older, I bring my dog shopping with me, and she absolutely loves all the attention from the associates and other shoppers. We've been to the café countless times, and she would unquestionably give the kids' chicken and veggie meal a 10/10. Nordstrom is still my go-to department store because it's convenient, consistently carries the brands and style I wear, and the customer service outside of cosmetics has always been excellent. It's the first place I think of when I need clothing, shoes, or gifts. That said, the beauty department has become incredibly frustrating. I completely understand that many of the makeup associates work on commission, and I genuinely respect that they're doing their jobs. But there is a huge difference between being available to help and making customers feel like they can't exist in the department without being approached. Every time I walk through the makeup area, I can barely look at a product before someone is asking if I need help. If I say "I'm just browsing," another associate from a different brand approaches me literally seconds later. Then another. Then another. It gets to the point where I'm being interrupted every few steps. Instead of enjoying the experience, I feel anxious and rushed. I don't get to compare products or discover something on my own because I'm constantly trying to politely decline conversations. It honestly feels less like shopping and more like running a gauntlet. Ironically, the constant pressure makes me want to spend **less**, not more. I've actually skipped buying products because I just wanted to get out of that section as quickly as possible. I still love Nordstrom and will continue shopping here because it's my favorite department store and has everything I'm looking for. I just wish the beauty department adopted a more relaxed approach. Customers should be able to browse comfortably and ask for help when they're ready--not feel like they're being followed every few seconds.

We went to go to pick out some work shirts…read more The store had a great selection, but at checkout I wanted to use my mom's phone number to gift her the discounts from our $100+ purchase as she shops there frequently and we shop there once a year. The clerk refused stating that we need to open our own account to get discounts for us. I asked my wife to sign up just to get out of the situation and after we checked out the clerk was condescending about how we shouldn't give my mom the discount and we should use it for us. Unfortunately, It's going to be a wasted discount primarily from being pressured to sign up for their program.

On both visits, I brought an Amazon return to the desk while wearing a shirt that referenced Israel. Each time, the employee at the desk noticeably reacted with visible agitation when she read my shirt. She made a frustrated or disgusted noise and gave me a harsh look. When I thanked her and wished her a nice day, she responded again with what sounded like a harsh growl or grunt -- but I noticed she was friendly and polite with other customers. I left feeling disrespected and discriminated against because of what my shirt said. I hope Kohl's takes incidents like this seriously and reminds employees that all customers deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect, regardless of their background or beliefs. I did attempt to contact the store manager at the time and did report my concern. I felt dismissed, however, as the manager appeared to be in a hurry and gradually walked away as I was describing what occurred. I brought the attention to the Kohl's online support team, but don't feel that was sufficient, given their generic and vague comments.

Once in Bloomingdale's I was looking at crystal and other fine items. As I continued through the store I spotted the store manager. As he walked by me he avoided eye contact. I said 'Hello'. He walked by me close enough to almost brush my shoulder and said nothing. I proceeded to another department and spotted a clerk. He walked towards me again avoiding eye contact. I said "Hello ". He turned to me and said "Oh, hello" and walked past me. I'm feeling invincible! I watched bothe the sales clerk and manager go to two different young couples that looked like Barbie and Ken. The said "Welcome to Bloomingdale's, may I help you find something?" Infuriating! I have been profiled. I was ready for a pleasant experience and to spend lots of money. But they judged my wallet by the way I looked. I am worth a few million dollars and was ready to spend some of it! If this happens to me, I can only imagine how many other affluent customers they've lost by 'profiling'. Big Mistake! I will shop at Neiman's and Sak's!
