I ran out of time to get shoes that matched my dress before I left NJ. For the past 5 years at least I've been finding exactly what I need in footwear at the Marshall's in Bridgewater so I decided to roll the dice in Chicago. This location was a block from my hotel. Unlike my local store though, the footwear section was dismal. Everything was either orthopedic or for pole dance. There was literally no in between - except for these black patent leather jawns that matched the exact vibe of my outfit and the event. Score! I did feel like the 34.99 price tag was a little steep. These would have been 29.99 in NJ but that's the city upcharge I guess. The quantum quickness with which I scooped them up should be studied. Thankfully, the toy section was legit, too as I couldn't show up to my new nephew's empty-handed. You're probably thinking "are you crazy? Five stars for a Marshall's?" Yes, it's true. This is the nicest, biggest, most stocked and organized Marshall's I've ever visited. Staff was straightening and cleaning continuously the entire time I was there. And it seemed like normal practice with the supervisor on the floor helping out. So much stock, racks and racks of clothing deals all sorted by size. Tons of shoes, coats, kids, kitchen gadgets, luggage, beauty, sweaters, purses, etc... I found 3 plus size tops and a nice midweight jacket. If I'd bought too much more stuff, I'd have to buy another suitcase to take it home. Who doesn't love a good deal? Marshalls has plenty of deals, some name brand clothes without the hefty price tag, and even some things for the home. The store was clean, which is amazing being that it is very busy and a lot of tourists in and out all day. They have a decent selection of women's clothes, shoes, and other accessories. Went here on a whim while on vacation. They have a good selection of women's clothing and some racks of men's clothing as well. I was able to find a couple of pieces of clothing worth taking home on the plane. I was also able to find a neck pillow to use on the flight home. Things were organized and not messy even in the late afternoon. The checkout line moved even if it was long. Good experience overall. read more

It seems every Marshall's I've been to has a good selection of product in one area. Meaning there are some stores that have a really good selection of shoes whereas other stores might do better with carrying houseware products. This store seems to do well in baby clothes and products while the other departments seem sparse in comparison. If you are looking for a baby shower gift, you might find something here. Or if you have kids, nieces, nephews or little cousins that seem to be growing too fast and you don't want to spend a lot of money on clothes, you might want to stop by here. Unlike some other Marshall's this store isn't junky. In fact I couldn't tell if they were just low on inventory or normally stay pretty lean at this store. The only drawback for me is that this store is located on the lower level of the building, which gives off a basement feel. I prefer to shop where natural sunlight can come through windows as you can see the product (or any defects) better in the natural light. read more

I like Marshall's. This downtown location is convenient and easy to get to. Sitting in the Magnificent Mile neighborhood, many locals and tourists alike are regulars here. This large lower level store has a lot of inventory. While it's pretty organized, you sometimes have to put a bit of work into finding what you are looking for. There are usually no surprises but always great basics are found. The staff isn't particularly friendly and professional. They get the job done but not a lot more. It feels pretty much like a self serve shopping experience except when checking out. read more

This store was incredibly busy on a Saturday afternoon... however it's so big I didn't notice that much! The line at the registers kept moving, and the staff were so friendly. They were constantly restocking items on the floor when I was there and I got some great deals on some very nice brands. I love this location and the variety this store offers! read more

This was a stop we made while waiting for a table at nearby Grand Luxe. So glad we took advantage of dine in while we had the chance! I came here to buy socks, and it was overall inconvenient. The line is what really bothers me. There are tons of closed registers, which I think is stupid on a Sunday. My cashier was friendly enough, and I was of course nice to her, but I am guessing she deals with some frustrated people. This is down to the store, not her. It's also unnecessarily hot here. My son found a nice button up shirt, a fanny pack he wanted and some led light fixtures that were funky. So, nice my for my son... Me, didn't find anything. But an unexpected surprise at checkout! Cashier asked if I wanted to join rewards and get an extra 10% off, I asked how long that would take she said 2 minutes. I said okay... a few basic questions popped up on the screen, I answered... the it asked for my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER... My response was that the question was too much for a rewards program... cashier silent... she said tap agree... I agreed, what the heck it was for a rewards thing... NOT ONCE EVEN DID SHE SAY IT WAS FOR A CREDIT CARD!!! I DON'T WANT NOR NEED ANOTHER CREDIT CARD. SHE NEVER SAID TO READ TO ALLOW FOR A CREDIT CHECK TO BE RUN. SHE JUST SAID TAP AGREE... It should be made crystal clear that you're asking someone to apply for a Marshall's credit card... A deceptive practice to ask for someone to JOIN the rewards program and not mention that it's a credit card. I don't shop Marshalls and probably will never shop at a Marshalls again. Take your stinking credit card, it was "pending" so as I checked out and don't even think I received a 10% discount. Last thing I wanted was a hard inquiry from a store like yours. read more

Some years ago, with great views of the city, this Marshall's location just off of Michigan Avenue was a great place to find stylish outerwear by the likes of Ann Klein, Kenneth Cole or London Fog, and other great finds, that one would not see at the other locations, that made the long checkout wait times bearable. But, unfortunately, in recent years it seems that even Marshall's flagship N. Michigan Ave store has definitely gone downhill. Failure to restock the empty isles, edgy sales-staff and the subpar, limited selections just aren't worth the lost time or hassle. There was a time when you could be sure to find a great coat or shoe selection at either Marshall's or their TJMaxx branded stores, but no longer.. Unless you're simply looking fr luggage, bedding or kitchen cookware accessories, look elsewhere as you won't find much by way of fashion selection availability. If you're trying to budget or just really looking for a great deal on wardrobe and outerwear, wait for annual, 'day after the major Holiday event' sales or other 80% off super sale at either AnnTaylor, Nordstrom's or Macy's and in a pinch even try Burlington's for outerwear and maybe DSW for other footwear. but, Unfortunately even at on the Michigan Mile, location, the decline in variety and quality of goods leaves only a Two-ish Star rating for the formerly awesome retail giant Two Stars (Marshalls-Needs Restructuring) Grade D! Perfect for spur of the moment buys when you want quality fashion at a great price. It's located iff of Michigan Avenue but the entrance is on the side! I love Marshall's and TJ Maxx and it's refreshing to see it on Michigan Avenue. I went there to get some walking shoes, as I didn't want my Tory Burch shoes to get beat up from all of that Chicago walking. I ended up get a cool pair of pink Converse for 1/2 the price. With everything so expensive in streeterville, the only place to find a good deal is at your local marshalls. It is located in the basement of this building. The other stores (linens n things) have since closed. This store contains a wide selection of name brand men, women, and children's clothes. In addition you can find a small section of gifts including small electronics and other items you would find at specialty stores. There is also a large section for children's toys, purses, women's accessories, and home goods. Pros: cheap, wide selection, name brand, likely the only place in chicago you can buy a lot for less Cons: long checkout lines, absent customer service Hidden deals: Be on the look out for yellow and red tags which are additional markdowns. Thanks to this place, my closet is filled to overflowing with an abundance of clothing. I frequently spend my lunch breaks here searching for whatever I can find. The prices here are, over all, more reasonable than most clothing stores downtown including the T.J. Maxx located directly upstairs. Their failing comes in two areas: the men's section and the checkout lanes. The men's section seems to be constantly shrinking; yielding space to women's, children's, and knick-knacks. They used to have an excellent selection of packaged men's shirts (some with ties and handkerchiefs) but now they have one rack of hanging shirts in a limited number of sizes, basic colors, and styles. Their selection of suits has also dwindled to near nothingness. Lastly, the men's shoes are all but an after thought now while the women's shoe department occupies about 25% of the facility. Even if you do manage to find something to buy, you may deem it not worth standing in line to purchase. The checkout has one line that feeds all of the registers. It's rare for there to be a short wait to checkout, even if they do have a human being assisting the automated system which alerts you to the next available cashier. That person would be of greater benefit if they manned a register. Still, not a bad place to kill some time and walk off your lunch indoors. read more

Yep, I'm queen of finding discount shopping where ever I am. I found a Marshalls and went in to scope out the discounts.. I wasn't terribly impressed. Usually for Marshalls, I am looking for higher end makeup, this store came up woefully short. HOWEVER.. they did provide a new eye mask for sleeping - something I'd forgotten to pack, for a good price. I'd picked one up in the makeup/accessories area, but when we were in line, waiting to check out, I found a different one for less. You can bet I snatched that one up! read more

Some staff are terrible. If you're browsing a rack they push all the clothing together as your thumbing through each piece. If you open the gap again they give you a dirty look and push everything back together to put more items in. (Yes, I was there prior to the staff member) one girl in the fitting room wanted me to hang up my clothes, which I did, then she told me to move them to the other side of the rack. There was a bucket on that side the dresses would have fallen into. She insisted I move them two inches. I picked them up and walked in without her counting them. When I discussed with a manager they had already sent her home because she had so many other shoppers with the same issue. What happened to good customer service? Some of their employees are amazing. I would rate this ZERO if that were an option. While the store may have lots to offer and may be fairly organized, I do not recommend trying anything on there as their dressing rooms are absolutely filthy and disgusting. Huge tumbleweeds of dust and hair are all over the floors and are EVERYWHERE! You cannot avoid stepping on them as you try to get out of your clothes. I came out of there looking like I had rolled around in garbage - my clothes were covered in this filth. And this was not a one off - it's ALWAYS like that there. The fun doesn't end there. Once you decide to purchase something and head to the registers, expect an enormous line to wait in forever because for some reason they always have just a few registers open with cashiers. Lots of managers milling around doing nothing other than staring at their fingernails or staring at the few overworked cashiers. Then, once you actually make it to the cashier, they try to hustle you into joining their "rewards"program without telling you that it's a CREDIT CARD and not a rewards card. Shady. Oh, and lastly, don't forget to bring your own bags otherwise they'll charge you for each and every crappy plastic bag thanks to the very inept "leaders" running the city (into the ground). Stop by Gucci, Guess and Armani, go right up to the registers and ask them if you can have a bag. Get said bag, turn around and leave. Why? Because you're a Frugal Fashionista who can't afford to drop her entire paycheck on the fashion flavor of the week. Go straight over to Marshalls and if you're feeling crowd friendly or up for the challenge of rack searching this may be the place for you. I found myself quite annoyed at not being able to find a simple item in a color that is pretty big right now so I was pretty let down. They have a pretty Nice little shoe selection and it makes sense to at least see if they have something from your favorite designer before selling plasma :) Will I go back? Maybe...but be prepared to search for what you want which can really suck sometimes. read more
