I bought a gift card ( PayPal Master card $500 from Family dollar for a friend visit from UK, trying to activate the card asked him his SSN, called PayPal the phone answered from overseas and doesn't give him the reason why they need. I ask the store Mng. If they could refund the money or exchange the real gif card said no. asked to change the sign or remove the cards from the shelf, cashier told me they knowing lots of people complain about it doesn't care, I am hoping they close all their stores specially the one in my are. read more

This place is amazing. It's cluttered, dingy, and the aisles are a tripping dream for a personal injury lawyer. While categories of products are grouped together, there's no rhyme or reason to what's there. So it's complicated to find anything--you need to look closely. And finally, the staff can be openly hostile (last week one of their people was openly pissed when I asked her if *I* could move her stepstool--out of the center of the aisle.) In the end, though, it's worth it. Wander the aisles and you will find $20 worth of stuff (stuff you'll use!) that would cost twice as much at Target or Best Buy, even with the expired coupon. If those stores even stocked the stuff, or had it in stock. The $$ Store has a plethora of tchotchkes--a mirror engraved with "Live your Life" or "Dance like no one's watching," pilled flannel pj's--you get the drift. But look: you get what you pay for in the chazarai department. So buyer beware, I've bought many a $1.00 item that quickly broke. That's the no name stuff, though. Mostly, you'll get brand name goods at rock bottom prices. Take the Steri-lite storage bins I bought last week. I am shocked, shocked when I go to Target, or Best Buy, et. al. and clock the price on the bottom of these plastic boxes. I have no doubt they cost the manufacturer in China pennies. Go to the Family $ Store, though, and you can organize your hellish kitchen and slovenly bathroom to your heart's content. Brand name cat food? Cat litter? Cleaning products? FOOD?! Soap? Band Aids? It's all here, and you can shop til you drop. With an added perk: you bring home one of those anonymous, slightly sinister looking dark green plastic bags, stuffed to the gills with everything you need (and want). read more

there is a big problem at the h street store the system is always down and when customers go to the store, the store is closed because of the system. this is happen too much and we need a better family dollar at this location. you all are losing money. the customers deserve better and the h street store is not the one. please, please get a new management. this store is terrible. we have gone there many times and the store is close because of the system. get better management or close up. we need a better store and this store is not it. no star rating it is very bad read more

Whenever I visit this family dollar on h street ne Washington DC, I have to leave my bags, backpack, or cart at the front unguarded by any employee. I've witnessed this with other customers as well. There is no respect. I was called a bitch by employee and told I couldn't purchase anything for refusing to leave my cart which was a luggage rack. The employee called it ugly. When I visit other locations in DC, MD and Ohio, I've never had this experience. They are welcoming. Don't tell anyone--this place is a gem. And guess what--they sell Silk Almond Milk. Times are a changing. I have been going here for five years and it keeps getting better and better. And they have sales! I did a HUGE portion of my holiday shopping here (yes, those $1 or $5 stickers come off or can be covered by another sticker--which they sell). Wrapping paper, gift bags, bows, tape, picture frames, KIDS' GIFTS (kids do not care if their gifts came from the dollar store. As long as it is non-toxic and safe, it is a deal!). Oh, and I purchased ALL of my own holiday decorations here, from ornaments to lights to an apartment-sized sparkly tree to berry-wreaths..they had it all. Seriously, I was here a lot over the holidays and every gift was loved. Plus, you get more for your money, so you can buy a little extra for your gift recipient. Also, for birthdays or host gifts...done. Gift bags, tissue paper, cards, candle sets--I know you will find something. You will find random things for your home, like an over sized pottery barn style mirror, a storage ottoman for $12 dollars (I am going there now to get it), tables, wall hangings, kids' bedroom decor, shower curtains, tons of kitchen appliances and knick-knacks, kitchen towels, bathroom carpets, and don't skip the back of the store--mops. swifters, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc. Money savers! Oh, and when you walk in the store, to the right you will find shampoo and bath needs, and even more by the make up section. Also--hardware stuff. It was a Sunday and the hard ware store was closed (?) but no worries, I got everything I needed here, probably much cheaper. And school supplies or craft needs...check! They have it. I am a regular and certain staff members (sorry ladies, I don't remember your names, but you are amazing) work their butts off and try to keep that line moving. If you find your self in a long line, my trick is to do some more browsing, and when I come back the line is gone--every time. If you are in a hurry and are buying chips, go to the convenience store! They don't carry everything, as it is a dollar store, but they do a pretty darn good job. I highly recommended this place-check it out. I am a walking commercial. read more

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in here. I've lived in this area for years and years, and never actually been inside Family Dollar (maybe anywhere, actually), so I was pleased to find a wide selection of name-brand products, as well as hardware-type stuff (I needed a standing closet rack thing, and surprise! they had those, too!). Minus one star for the line being crazy (only two cash registers, but I guess they have to do some serious crowd control, as people probably try to steal stuff all the time. The store was also really cluttered, but that didn't bother me as much. More of a "hey, guys, organize your shelves". But I had no problem finding everything I needed (and some things I didn't need but decided to buy on a whim). read more

I only come here for aluminium pans if necessary. There is ALWAYSSS a longggg wait at the register... but 75% of the time, it's not b/c of the staff, it's b/c of the people that shop here. I've been here over 10 times and there is always drama... god forbid there's 1 check out counter open and the other one (parallel to it) opens and everyone in this one line starts running to it! You would think it's Walmart on a black Friday! On the family dollar products, I get their generic disposable utensils and wet "bootleg-swifter" wipes and both works absolutely fine and cheaper than the name brand one. read more

Hi, I'm writing this review because of a horrible experience that I've had at my local family dollar, store #06421. Yesterday I went to the above store to do my weekly shopping as i always do and purchased $83.20 worth of items. One of those items was a replacement bulb for my microwave light. When I returned home I realized it was the wrong bulb. I went back to the store right away to return it and was told due to covid 19 I could not return it? I was very confused as to how it was ok to spend money and shop during covid 19, but no returns were allowed? I decided to go back the next day when the store manager would be there, I thought I would get a better, more professional response and resolution. The store manager was very rude and dismissive of my issue. She told me that, "you are doing the most over two dollars". She didn't seem to be concerned AT ALL about customer service and or resolving this issue. She was VERY unprofessional and should really be fired and I don't say that lightly. I asked her for the district manager name and she said his name was Keith West, as if to say I don't care if you call him. Very bad experience. I can not believe Yelp. They only allow you to go to 1 star, if i had the opportunity i would go below that for this place. I mean i live in virginia and i come here to see my friend once in a while but this family dollar is bad. I am sorry BAD is not the right word, ITS HORRIBLE! I mean stuff is everywhere, people talk crap to you when you ask them for stuff. Managers do not resolve problems. I have visited here 3 times over all and everytime there seems to be an issue. I visit family dollar in Virginia all the time and they seem to be fine, but I am never visiting this place. EVER! read more
