Very disappointed with how this office handled our appointment. We had an eye exam scheduled for our son that was booked nearly a year in advance. When we arrived, we were told they no longer accept our insurance. This was extremely frustrating because they previously did accept our insurance, and no one contacted us ahead of time to cancel or notify us of the change. We left work early and took our son out of school early for this appointment, only to be turned away at the door. That level of inconvenience could have easily been avoided with a simple phone call. This felt unprofessional and showed a lack of respect for patients' time. Insurance changes happen, but communication is the responsibility of the office. read more

The doctor was running behind I was there for about 3 hours for a routine eye exam. After my exam I was told I need glasses, the staff was way too busy to help me pick out glasses and told me I should look for frames on my own, because I wasn't able to find a pair in the 5 minutes she helped me. I never received a follow up call despite leaving messages multiple times. My appointment was 3/7/2025. I was only able to get glasses after requesting my prescription and going elsewhere. read more

The Little House of Horrors. I went in for a routine glaucoma eye test. While the alleged tech was taking measurements of my retina I saw bright flashes on light in one eye at least three times. After the test I told her that my vision in my left eye was very blurred. So, she writes in my chart that vision in my left is more blurry since my last visit. I respond that while the last 15 minutes is technically since my last visit it's VERY misleading and implies that I came in that way not that it changed while taking the test. So, she deletes the comment. The doctor comes in and doesn't mention a thing. I mention my left eye and she goes about filling in the chart. Finally I demand that she take a look at my eye and says that there's a scratch. Frankly I think that there was at least three one for each flash of light. She puts a "bandage" contact on it and gives me eye drops to use every 2-3 hours, and makes an appointment for the next day. When I return she looks at it and announces that it's 95% healed and give my a eye test that I fail badly. The vision in that eye was VERY blurry. She puts a second "bandage" contact and makes an appointment for the next day. The next day the eye is 95% healed, but vision is still horribly blurred. Treatment changes and she write an prescription for an Ointment that I'm to use every night. Well this stuff is like Vaseline. My eyelids are stuck together every morning and I'm using copious amount of eye drops to wash it out. Vision is totally and completely blurred until the afternoon. After three day I can't take it anymore and skip the last night. When I return to the office I complain about how things are going and she switches the Ointment to Gel Drops which I've been using for over a week More than two weeks of eye drops every 2-3 hours, bandage" contact, Ointments, and gel drop the blurriness is subsiding but the eye is still sore. IMO their in initial response was to sweep it under the rug and send me home. When the glasses I bought there broke when I fell, they were completely unhelpful in trying to replace the frames. I called them at least a half dozen times with no return call. When I finally reached a human voice, they told me they could only help me if I purchased a new pair of lenses, though I only needed new frames. They were totally not helpful! Their optometrist recently was arrested for Medicare and Medicaid fraud too! Lenses Only in Plainville was so accommodating and helpful! read more

I love Family Eye Care and have been going there for years. Normally, I am in and out fairly quick. Lately, it seems to be super busy whenever I go in for anything, whether it's a follow-up or just picking up glasses. They are still great and worth working with, but it just feels like they have too much going on all at once. The staff is great, but it seems like they need a break from the number of people coming in. I don't know how the scheduling is set up, but maybe that needs to be looked at. I know from experience that stressing out your staff with too much each day can cause them to look for work elsewhere, and I hope that doesn't happen because they are all fantastic people. read more

Have been seen fir myslef and when getting my prescription was pushed for add on, and decided to but later decided to change and requested for my prescription and pd measurements and was told that they will charge $20 for it. The tech was very nasty and rude, saying they charge for it and to me was absurd that I need to get my prescription.. if you don't want to have surprised charges, don't go here or call and ask if there is extra charges.. the tech was nasty . read more

Exceptional care! We made an after hour emergency call to Dr. Zervas after finding her online. Our 13 yr old son had been diagnosed with a concussion at CCMC ER the day before and although they told us he may have changing vision we grew concerned for possible retina damage. Dr. Zervas spoke right away and discussed the situation at great length. To our relief; she believed he was fine and that she would confirm this with us the next early morning. We were welcomed by her comforting staff and Dr. Zervas' caring manner. She confirmed that his vision is perfectly healthy and explained this in a way that our son appreciated as well. We feel great about the whole experience. And will be using Family Eye Care from now on. read more

Wish I had read these review before I had ever attempted to go here for my opt. doctor. After my first visit, which was an initial check up, and under my insurance, should have been free, I received a bill for close to $500. Needless to say, I was shocked. When I protested the billing, they claimed that they performed a medical test on me, so they needed to go through my medical insurance, not vision, and refused to break up the appointment in order to bill what was vision to my vision insurance, and medical to medical insurance. This was news to me, as I recalled no test beyond typical vision tests, nor was I informed that any thing that was done in my examination was beyond a typical eye exam. I had to protest the bill, again and again for months, going so far as to file complaints with Cigna. Eventually they billed me "correctly" (sending the medical expenses to my medical insurance, and my vision expenses to my vision insurance), but even a year after my exam, I was on the hook for around $130, for an exam that should have been free. They are no longer my optometrist, needless to say. read more

Worst doctors experience ever. I have never met such rude people. The doctor herself - the owner of the practice - was undermining me because I had a kid at 20. Asking me all sorts of personal questions. At first I was trying to play ball. She asked me if I still lived at home - no. She asked me if me and my sons father were still together - yes. She asked me why we aren't married and I said because of money. She responded with "don't you wish you didn't have your son so young?" In a very sarcastic voice - kinda like, if I didn't have him young I'd be in better financial standing (which I'm sure is true but I don't give a shit. No money comes before my child) I was very upset with that comment. I told her "no I'm not upset about having him young. He's the greatest blessing to me and it forced me to grow up". Then she told me to go have a seat and someone will help me pick out my glasses. I asked if she could write me a perscription. She kept insisting on getting my glasses from there. After about the 4th time of her telling me to go sit I told her I will look there (I had all intentions to look- originally!) but I wanted to check out bj's and LensCrafters. If I'm going to be wearing my glasses for 5 years I want to make sure they are really the ones I want. She said " just because you shop it around doesn't mean it's going to be cheaper. We're all pretty competitive" I leave her office very unhappy. I pace for a while waiting for my prescription and a women comes over to help me look for my glasses, Trish I believe. I tell her I don't see anything I like and under her breath as she's walking away says " a store full of glasses and not one you like". Now I'm paying. VERY expensive by the way. They give me my receipt, tell me I'm all set, but never gave me my prescription! I tell them I need my prescription. So I wait another 10 minutes for it. So I go to bjs and the frames were half off. I paid $60 for frames. And the lenses were half off. I paid $100 for those, because I got the ones that help with seeing at night, resist glare, don't scratch as easy and don't really smudge (basic lenses were much cheaper - $50.00) so for $160 I got a complete pair of glasses and I could not even find frames for under $189 at family eye care. So glad I didn't let her talk me into buying me there. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Awful experience all together. read more

I'm not going to waste my time writing a negative review of this business, although I have a wealth of material. I'll just say that this practice is simply sub-standard. I urge everyone to stay away. After being assured that my insurance had paid in full, and I had met my financial obligations, I received an additional bill for $65.00. This was back in April, 2016. In response to Andrea W., I'm also on Husky for the time being as my mom was unemployed for a while and they told me it was fine if I faxed it or brought my card in later. They clearly don't have their shit together. Very, very rude people. It's a shame because the first woman you meet with who has short curly hair is so incredibly nice and has a great sense of humor! The woman who owns the practice was examining me for a new prescription and not only was she being incompetent while showing me the different lenses, but when I told her that one was blurrier than the other, she disagreed with me. I'm baffled by how she believed that not only was one of my eyes completely the same prescription as it was a year ago, but the other eye miraculously has gotten stronger! I kept insisting she was wrong but she refused to write anything else down and then she sent me out. She called me in again to examine my retinas, and told me any glasses or contacts I ordered would come in 7-8 days. I asked her if they had any sample boxes and she told me no they don't stock them. The rest of the conversation included her calling me irresponsible multiple times, sarcastic attitudes, and just plain bitching at me in a demeaning way. I called in for a contact lens fitting only because my father threw mine out accidentally two days before I was supposed to drive my family to D.C.. All I wanted was a sample for the time being to get me through the vacation then I would order some afterward. However, they refused to give me a sample box unless I placed an actual order, defies common sense, no? All other places I have gotten fittings at have ALWAYS given me sample boxes without a request. When I insisted I needed them and I wouldn't have paid $95 for a lens fitting had I known they weren't going to let me have any, the woman at the front desk opened a sample box, took out a pair, and threw them on the table in front of me. It wasn't until I was on my way home that I realized not only were the contacts the wrong brand, but also the wrong prescription. Total waste of money and an hour of my life. read more

I guess I'm one of many wow, I went to get my son's frames replaced and was told that I would have to wait six to seven business days after my husband was treated so nice the day before and they told him to come back tomorrow and they would replace the frames. On top of getting a not-so-welcoming vibe from the girl with long curly hair, she gatekept glasses frames and tried to confiscate my son's glasses, it seemed like she was pretending that my son never went there. IDK. And I had to convince her that there was no point in doing that because he was a regular patient there. Then she says "I don't care, do whatever you want. You want to keep them go ahead." ... I just wanted to replace the frames lol. Overall not a good experience for a woman to go into this place of business. They were nice to my husband and extremely kind whenever he came in, but they don't have that same energy for women. read more

I was a patient here. I stopped going because I would get harassing calls by AnnMarie to reschedule. Some of her staff are rude, moody and disrespectful. One of them accused me of writing a bad review on Facebook. ( which I didn't) . Dr. Z told me to get bifocals which I had a right time with. She seems condensing. ( FYI- I highly believe one of the staff sent me harassing texts to my cell because I told Dr. Z I didn't like them. No cool harassing someone who's BF is a cop. Glad I no longer go here. read more

I called to make an appointment for my son and they were nice. They told me to go on their website to print out the forms to bring. I asked if they accepted the husky plan(childrens insurance) and they said yes. I go in the day of the appointment and they needed his medical card- i just had the number. They told me that they could not see my son without the card.. which is BS because i go to the hospital and doctors office and just give them the number and they are fine with it so why is it that a eye doctor wont accept it? They were very rude after i told them i did not have the card. I had to take time off work because they do not take young children in the afternoon. It was a waste of time and they did not work with me or try and help the situation. they lost my business and my familes business. Very Disappointed. read more

The staff did not inform me of the costs prior to the appointment and when I arrived they said I should have been informed of the costs before hand (over $200 with insurance). DO NOT GO HERE! They are very rude and have no customer service. I went to pick up my glasses and contacts and was humiliated as a nurse shouted from the next room not to let the receptionist give me my order because I owed a small balance. I asked if I could come in the next day after I was paid to pay in full and they refused. I explained to them that last year I was able to pay on a payment plan which I did promptly and they said that that was a lie, calling me a liar! I was mortified. The nurse or person shouting from the next room would not come out in person, so I said I would have to come back in a few days to pick them up when I could pay in full. If you want good eye care for your children you WILL NOT go to this practice. They do not keep good medical records and will tell you that they are ordering your glasses and they will call you when they come in. When you don't hear anything for a week which happened to me 2 times too many, I find out my son's glasses were never ordered either time and they tell me they have no record of my son being there for a year. My son had eye surgery as a baby and depends on his glasses and sees his eye surgeon regularly. I was told that they were going to reorder the same pair of glasses my son got in February of this year and they would call me when they came in. SURPRISE!! I was told my son was never there in February and therefore my sons replacement glasses were NEVER ordered. This practice is a JOKE especially when it comes to organizing medical records. I emailed the doctor to let her know my concerns and the issue I am having and it's already been over a week and she obviously does not think it is important to get back to me even to apologize. Worst place ever to go and get any kind of service I wouldn't recommend her to anyone she's rude and very noisy she asks personal questions and I feel like I was in a jury chair with everything she was asking about me and my home life I'm there for an eye exam not to be on trial there glasses are very very expensive and there's not a great selection they office staff has no idea what they are doing and are rude and very pushy for you to spend your money there once they know your not interested they just ingnore you and make you wait, also the dr hassled me about taking my eye glass script I will never ever go back here! read more

Just wanted to warn others of the horrible experience I had at this practice. This is in NO WAY, a kid-friendly , establishment. The waiting room itself was stark and sterile with barely enough room for a family to wait. This was the first time my two young boys (age 6 and 7) were to get their eyes checked. No one bothered to address them and the Doctor never even introduced herself. Things were done quickly and without any explaination to either the children or myself. A diagnosis was thrown at me in the gruffest manner I have ever experienced. I only found out after going for a second opinion to Children's eye care, that not all of the tests were even preformed the first time! Turns out my son's script was completely off!
