They called me the day of at 2:30 to see if I could come early so the doc could leave earlier...I thought that was a little unprofessional but ehh. Perhaps I would too if I had a job that allowed something like that. Upon my arrival (at 4 as I couldn't make it earlier), they saw me immediately and even charged me a lower fee as I've had contacts before despite being a first time patient here. That was nice. Doc also gave me an extra "trial" pair of lenses. Always appreciated cause contacts are expensive and my insurance doesn't cover much. Overall, I plan to come back next year for my annual exam/prescription. I don't wear glasses so I can't speak to that. Staff were all friendly and down to earth.

So, I'd been going to this Eyeglass Place (Newington) for 3+ years and bought my frames, lenses and…read moreeye exams there without issue. Then late last year I brought in two sets of frames I purchased online to have them lens them for me (they were in a style no one was carrying). They took one look at them, tried to remove the clear lenses they shipped with, told me they wouldn't come out and they feared they might damage the frames so they couldn't help with them. I took them home and thought I'd see if I could remove the lenses - they all popped out hassle-free with zero damage. Excited, I called them and explained and they asked me to send them pics - I took the pics and sent them over while they waited. In under a minute they told me they still couldn't help me because the frames were low quality (I bought them on Amazon). I was uneasy about their replies so I went for a 2nd opinion - I stopped in at Harvey & Lewis at Hartford Hospital - I had used them years earlier when I was a high wage earner and needed a lower priced dealer. They took a look at both frames while I explained their lineage. In 5 mins they were fitting me for lenses in both pair. 2 weeks later I was wearing both pair. The story doesn't end there. Fast forward: I called Eyeglass Place to get my eye exam so I could get a new (extra) set of frames with the usual lensing. The day before the exam I rank to an issue and needed to reschedule which they did, somewhat begrudgingly. 2 weeks later, & 2 days before the rescheduled exam my ride had to work so I called again to move it out another week or so. The gal on the phone informed me that this was my 2nd reschedule and that it happened again I'd lose the privilege of booking in advance ever again and would have call in each day to see if they could see me that day. She left me feeling emasculated, like a child being scolded by his mother, so I acted accordingly. I went back to Harvey & Lewis, scheduled an exam and again, my ride got called into work so I rescheduled. While rescheduling, I asked them if there would be any kind penalty if additional rescheduling was required on my part.. The gal on the phone (Madeline) basically told me that life always has unforeseeable issues and that I could reschedule a half dozen times if that was what it took until it was right for me - they'd gladly still be there for me. My buddy (my ride and also a customer at Eyeglass Place, was also involved in this process and as of now, neither of us will be returning to Eyeglass Place. Clearly sometimes you really do get what you pay for. So, as a cautionary tale, if you're planning on going to Eyeglass Place Newington, please note that she's a jealous mistress, if you're not100% loyal to them, be prepared for your treatment will be meted-out proportionate to the extent of your "transgression."

Following suite, my request for my own medical records, something I am unequivocally entitled to as part of my HIPAA rights, was immediately followed by the termination of care not only for me, but also for my wife and my five-year-old son. This sequence of events strongly suggests their decision was retaliatory in nature. It is particularly troubling that my child's care was discontinued despite him having no involvement in this matter. You can see the letter sent to a five year old! Terminating treatment for a minor under these circumstances reflects poorly on this practice's judgment and raises ethical concerns. Though we found the doctor to be very good, there were repeated instances of unprofessional and dismissive behavior from their front desk staff (a trend, I see, according to other reviews). These included: -Resistance to addressing a defect in an expensive, newly purchased lens -Dismissive communication when I attempted to clarify that I had not received my prescription -A general unwillingness to acknowledge that patients are legally entitled to receive their prescriptions without needing to request them These experiences demonstrated a pattern of prioritizing administrative convenience and financial interests over patient respect and basic professional courtesy. This practice's response to a lawful records request--culminating in termination of care--only reinforced our concerns. Patients should not feel that exercising their legal rights will result in punitive action.

Everyone is so nice and usually the wait time isn't too long. Sometimes I stop in with no appointment to get my glasses fixed and they always help me. The one thing I would say is it is a little disorganized and there is stuff all around. I think it could use an update and declutter. I do love how they decorate for every holiday.

You'll quickly find out it's more about patient care than anything else. From eye exams to fittings for glasses, they want to make sure YOU are satisfied and leave feeling good. The office has a much more homey feeling than a "Dr.s office" does. Best of all, they can actually schedule you in weeks and not months.
