This is an average antique, vintage, collectibles mall - 3 stars…read more My first (and only) visit: this place is pretty mediocre by my tastes. The first floor is - about - half vintage stuff and half modern collectibles & nick knacks. Of course, they have the ever-present lame area featuring Christmas items year round...even in July. This one is right in front. I don't know why I always seem to find these areas in antique/vintage shops but it seems ubiquitous - I can't seem to escape it! I HAVE seen shops with very cool, legitimately antique Christmas items. But sadly, that's not the case here. The basement is mostly real legitimate antiques. There were far more interesting pieces down there. But nothing really knocked my socks off. On the other hand, on the positive side, nothing was very expensive either. You won't break the bank shopping here. I don't know why I have a fondness for those 22" antique framed photos in oval frames with bubble glass but I find them fascinating. I saw several cool ones downstairs and they were only in the 50 buck range. I usually see price tags of 100 dollars (and up) for these things, depending on the photo. On the day of my visit, the customer service was pretty pathetic and non-existent. I counted 5 people behind the counter and one old timer (customer?) leaning on the counter, talking everyone's ear off. No one could be bothered to greet me or ask if they could help me to find anything. I even interrupted them to ask a question, and I still had to wait & they all acted like I was bothering them. Yet, my pocket was full of cash. Oh, well. I left empty handed and underwhelmed. I might have...might have...bumped them to 4 stars if the customer service was awesome. I think my wife and I have been to nearly EVERY antique store (close to & adjacent to Highway 169) between Elk River and Grand Rapids. Let me tell you, there are some horrible stinkers that call themselves antique stores. But North Bound is easily one of the best...if not THE best of them all. North Bound is technically a "mall" with many vendors. But they're way above average with some fantastic vendors. They could hold their own with any antique mall in Minneapolis and St. Paul. And the building is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. The best vendors seem to be in the front of the store. These are the ones that have the biggest, rarest, and most expensive items. Be prepared to fork out some dough if you want to buy something big and rare. They have brand-new hand-made crafts of different kinds peppered throughout the store too. I simply just wanted to reverse a transaction for a couple of items that were sold to him with every intention of paying him what he had invested, and when this choice was presented to this individual during the "holiday" time of year he couldnt get to the cash register fast enough!! A choice that not only cost him money, reputation it also cost him future opportunities to buy inventory for his store. All for a chance to put a measly $7 in his pocket rather than comprehend that choice just terminated a relationship with 3 other individuals that regularly bring him fresh & effortless inventory that sells itself to his customers. I wish there was a way to measure the cost of future transaction losses versus the gain of one $7 profit transaction that I could mail him daily until you finally comprehended "basic business 101" protocols!
