Girls at the front desk are nice but i did take my 16 year old Boston terrier here a few times and the last time that I picked him up he had a cut on his cheek and no one was able to tell me how it happened. My main worry is who is watching these dogs? And how no one was able to give me a straight answer on why and how my dog got hurt. Poor baby was anxious and scared the whole day. Went back to cancel the doggy day care plan that I had purchased, once again the girls at the front desk were understanding and cooperative but i just wouldn't risk bringing my dog here again. read more

We recently used Family Pet Retreat for our 3 days 2 night trip out of town. This is the first time we have left her with anyone else other than family. Doing our research, we went to Pet Suites and found these rooms much more at home rather than keeping our pet in a kennel barking under fluorescent lights. Her room was a good size, well kept and clean. We usually don't keep her with other dogs and they made sure she could stay separated when having the outdoor play time and using the bathroom. Play, feeding, and bathroom were included. Very grateful for the fantastic/attentive staff and reasonable care. We would definitely book again in the near future. read more

My Prince loves it there!! The staff is nice, and it always smells clean and fresh. Prince never comes home smelling bad, and sometimes doesn't even want to get into the car and leave. There is lots of room for the dogs to run and play, and there are no cages. There is usually 2-3 to a room (that has a door, like at home, instead of a cage), but if your dog is shy or uncomfortable, they will give them a single room. They give him his allergy medication with no issues and send text updates and pictures periodically during his stays (all of the pictures posted are pictures sent to me by the staff). I'm sorry to report such a sad review but it needs to be reported. Here are the issues: - MY DOGFOOD The dogfood I had measured out for both dogs for 3 meals they would need (including a heaping extra meal if needed) was totally depleted. I measured the food exactly because I noticed this the past two times they've stayed. NutriSource is one of the most expensive dogfoods on the market. - UNFRIENDLY STAFF The front office staff lacked the warmth and friendliness that was once felt by everyone entering Family Pet Retreat. There seem to be fewer employees and perhaps new management/ownership. I've used Family Pet Retreat for 8.5 years. After picking up at 5:30 last evening I left frustrated. When I asked the employee why the food was missing the answer she gave revealed sloppiness, lack of transparency, and disconcern for the care of my dogs. read more

The absolute best! We've lived all over the place, and had dogs at many daycares, but this is by far, the best! It's a bit of a drive for us -but well worth it! We rescued a 8 mos old energetic pit pup a few months ago and we first took him to ANOTHER daycare in the area- one of the chain places- located on Louetta. That daycare did not match him with dogs with his energy level and they complained he had too much energy for the other dogs. They would keep him isolated in a cage for much of the day because he played too hard with the other dogs. When they asked me to start taking my dog to the dog park prior to dropping him off at daycare so he'd have less energy when he was there, I knew it was time to find another daycare! We are SO glad we did! We have been THRILLED with Family Pet Retreat from day one. We've since had our pup here for both daycare and boarding and he LOVES it! There's lots of pups with his level of energy and he comes home tired and relaxed. I love that he stays in a room with other dogs when not outdoors and that he's not stuck in a cage alone. The staff is always so friendly and when we dropped him off for extended boarding- they sent photos and videos of him playing- it was so nice! Follow their IG for photos of happy pups- so much cuteness! Finally, their rates are lower than most of their competitors- and the staff seem to really be engaged and know the dogs here well. They never made us feel like our energetic pup was a problem or burden for them- they understand puppy behavior and match him with other pups of his energy level. Oh- and the building always looks and smells clean and there's always someone with a mop in hand or cleaning something so we know the spaces are well cared for too. We are thrilled our pup is getting better socialized with other dogs, gets loved on all day long, and truly LOVES coming to daycare each time. This is an amazingly well run family pet boarding facility. The Family Pet Retreat takes care of pets with love and kindness unlike any that I've seen. So it doesn't feel like a business but a second home where you can leave your pet knowing they will be well taken care of. My sweet GSD was there for a week. She showed no signed of distress and looked wonderful when I picked her up. They bathed her and brushed her so nicely. They have a secure area for the dogs to play and do their business. They have rooms for the dogs to sleep in if they're staying the night. They ask you how and when they are fed. They ask you for anything else that might make them feel more at home. Our dog stayed for 7 nights and was bath and nails clip for a very affordable price. Our dog has to stay an extra night due to the weather and flight delay. WARNING!! I boarded my sweet rescue longhaired miniature dachshund here for 8 days while I traveled domestically for work. She has separation anxiety and is timid around new people. I picked her up and now she is TERRIFIED of other dogs, bolts the other way, growls, tries to escape her leash before other dogs even get close because she must have had a terrible incident here (she is the sweetest girl and was always patient with other dogs, non-aggressive, and would let them sniff her before) and now she has an irrational fear of other dogs. In addition, she came home with a massive infection which the vet said looked to be due to an abrasive cleaning agent or sitting in her own feces for extended periods of time (she was completely healthy prior to her visit). They attendants said she wouldn't come near them so they didn't even try to touch or interact with her or gain her trust the entirety of her stay, so no wonder they didn't notice? Very unfriendly management and Poppy was miserable when I came to pick her up. Additionally pretty sketch that they charge a different price for credit card & check as opposed to cash. seems like they aren't declaring all their income for tax purposes as they say the price reduction for cash is due to taxes. I know this place is affordable, but I can't imagine a worse facility. Not worth the savings. read more

Incredibly negligent and now we are being told conflicting stories by the owners and workers. We can't even know what happened bc their cameras were chewed up by other dogs. How long has that been a problem? Why are they withholding the full truth? Who killed my best friend?? We're told he got a heart puncture to the wound, but the body instead is ripped apart at the arms and neck with no puncture near his chest. I had my two dogs (Frank and Eugene) stay at Family Pet Retreat over the Christmas and New Year holiday (10 nights). I did a lot of research online trying to find a reasonable price per night and somewhere where they wouldn't be in a kennel most of the day. This place was perfect because they have the dogs play at day care all day and then have a nice room to themselves that is not a kennel. This is very important to me because one of my dogs is a rescue and I worried about him feeling abandoned when I was gone for so long. I did check them out first before boarding them and had them go to daycare there a few times. The people that work there are very friendly and seemed to care about taking care of my dogs. When I boarded them I called a few times to check up on them and anyone that picked up the line was more than happy to let me know the dogs were eating and having a good time. When I picked them up they didn't even notice me at first, they were running to some of the other employees wagging there tails! This made me happy because it meant they were comfortable in their surroundings. They require an exit bath if they stay a certain amount of days which I find a great idea because they came home smelling great and even had bandanas on like they had been groomed. I loved it because after 0 nights running around outside around other dogs, I'm sure they would be stinky. I will definitely be back whenever I need to bring them to daycare or board. read more

I have been taking my VERY hyper lab/pit mix, Shiloh, to Family Pet Retreat for daycare for a few weeks now and I could not be more pleased! The staff are very friendly and very patient with my dog. Shiloh has been better behaved in the evenings as a result of using her energy throughout the day. When we first started daycare, Shiloh was very timid around other dogs, but now she plays well and has made great friends. When we arrive in the mornings her tail starts wagging as soon as we get to the driveway. Shiloh loves it here, and I love what they have done for me. read more

WOW, WOW, WOW! This place is AWESOME! I had to go out of town for work and was freaking out about finding a good place to board our 12 week old Bullweiler puppy. I initially did not want to board her, I wanted to find a private petsitter, because I did not want her in a kennel all day long. I got on the Nextdoor app and asked around, and so many people recommended this place, so I did some quick research on them. I called them and they answered all of my questions. I ultimately decided on them and took my pup over. One of the first things I noticed that really impressed me, was how clean the place was! I walked in and it did not smell like dogs at all, all I smelled were cleaning products, which let me know they clean frequently and take good care of the premises. Secondly, I was so impressed with the girls at the front desk. They were soo friendly and sweet. They instantly put me at ease about leaving Zara there. They took the time to answer all my questions, and listened when I explained her feeding and other information, and they asked questions to clarify my instructions. They saw I was anxious about leaving her, as it was her first time away from me. They said for me to write down my cell phone number and they would text me updates on her. Like someone else said, they went above and beyond. When I picked my pup up, she acted like she didn't want to come home! I plan on using them again and again! read more

I helped out during the holidays and was very impressed with the operation of this business. They really love the dogs and go above and beyond. They clean the rooms 3 times/day. I was helping change the water in the bowls and they stopped me from using tap water...no, only filtered water! I love Family Pet Retreat! My dog, bunny and cat always stay together in one of their huge rooms that are perfect for multiple pet families! They enjoy staying together and the staff is amazing. They always send me pictures and updates on how they are doing! They even give my bunny fresh fruit and vegetables that they buy for it! We've been bringing our golden retriever here for boarding during our last few vacations. He LOVES it.
