He said he'd send the estimate right away but we didn't hear from him until a week later and by then we had already gone with another company that was much more responsive. We just had 4 trees trimmed today--thanks and kudos to Nolan and his crew for the hard work they did. Twice, he had me take a look at the trees to make sure I'm satisfied with the result. The process was polite, friendly, and professional as they listened to what I was looking to get done. I dealt with Family Tree Care through GetChipDrop.com and I gotta say, these guys are borderline unethical. The rules for GetChipDrop are "chips only" with minimum of trash and branches. The load they delivered to me was 75% fir needles and a lot of laurel branches that had not been chipped or shredded. And there was a lot of garbage in the load as well. What they did was shovel dross off the ground into their truck and then ship it off as "chips." I dunno, maybe they rock on tree removal, but I gotta think a company that is dodgy in one area is not completely forthright in any other area. Use these guys at your own risk. read more

I hired the tree service 2 weeks ago and they here today to do the job. Three team member showed up on time @ 8:30am( This is a +++ for me). They're here to trimmed 3 very large trees & 1 tree belongs to my neighbor. So I need to make sure everything is done right from the beginning to the end. I read one reviewer saying they are loud. Chainsaw is loud and also grinding tree machine is super loud so they do need to yelled ( tree falling "clearing"). I live on a street where bus & cars goes by So safety is very important. At first I got a quick reply and a tentative date for doing the estimate, but for the past couple of weeks I've been unable to get a return text or phone message, and I'm discouraged. Makes me sad. Johnny and crew did a great job trimming up a tree for us last year. So when we needed wood chips, this was the company I called. I was very clear that we needed a small (maximum 3 yards) of chips, that I was not in a hurry and would wait until they had a small job. Johnny said his truck holds 5 yards so I said not more than 1/2 load. Long story short, what we received was over 8 yards of chips and branches. I reached out to Johnny twice to discuss the overage. Crickets. We ended up having to pay a yard maintenance company to remove over 6 yards of wood chips to get this mountain out of the driveway before our overly exuberant HOA board got all Up in our business. Pictures show the leftover pile that filled a 6 yard trailer and 2 yard pickup bed, along with our two large yard bins... after we spread 2-3 yards for our project. Excellent service from the crew at Family Tree Care on cutting down one tree and two large bushes. I got my service from Rich who was great to work with! I had a beautiful birch tree that was just in an unfortunate spot, growing in to my neighbor's fence. I was sad to see it go yet they did a fabulous job on cutting the tree down. They clean up all branches, leaves and debris. The laurel on the side had been cut down a time or two before and the rhodie in the front just needed to die. We loosely discussed pulling out the rhodie roots and if not, Rich offered that they could grind down the stump for $150. I was not interested in grinding down that small stump and I thought I relayed that yet apparently I did not. I travel for work so was not home when they came to do the work yet when I got home, I had stumps where I formerly had a tree and two bushes. That was great! A week or so later, I got an invoice for $150 for the stump grinding. I was surprised yet not too freaked out, until I went outside and realized they had come back and ground out the stump during another work trip. I then wrote to the company and let them know how upset I was. I felt like they made my work harder as I was going to dig out the rhodie roots to plant a different bush. Rich took the time to call and listen to me, then he apologized and said don't worry about the invoice, he would reverse it for me. Fast forward to the next weekend when I went outside to dig out the roots. They had done such a great job grinding out the stump, that the roots were easily hand-pulled. I've never had such an easy job! I've asked them to please return to give me an estimate on grinding the laurel and the birch, altho I don't think they'll be able to reach the birch stump (new staircase). I highly recommend Family Tree. I didn't meet the guys doing the work yet Rich has been a fabulous rep for their company! read more

They booked me out months due to no appointment. 3 months before I reached out they said they would be in touch closer to date. 2 weeks before still hadn't heard anything so I decided I better find another service after waiting. I found a different group. This group shows up I told them I went with a different group because they never responded. The foreman proceeded to scream profanity at me calling me names and then saw the other organization I hired and yelling discriminatory comments to the workers. These guys were awesome. Very quick response coming out and giving a bid. Price was lower than I expected. They said schedule was about 3 weeks out - no problem. Then they called a few days later because they had an opening and I took it! The crew came out on time. Got a whole bunch of stuff done in a short amount of time. It was crazy watching them work! I have a very tall tree next to power lines that needed a lot cut off and they made it look easy. They also had great teamwork going on, having fun and laughing while getting the job done. They took care of a few little extra things to help me out and had a great attitude about it. Cleaned up nicely. They even helped me catch my dog when she got out of the yard. Very disappointed with this company. The employees that came to our home acted irritable, rushed, and rude. The work performed was not what was described in the quote. A large mess was left in our yard, and multiple shrubs, bushes, and flower beds were walked on and crushed. In addition, the company waited nearly six months to cash our check. Very unprofessional. Jay, Johnny and their team are a great group of hard working guys that do a wonderful job. I had a large Magnolia tree the needed to be pruned as well as many other trees in the yard. They did a wonderful job at pruning and picking up after. Jay/team even shaped some shrubs that were along my house, pruned some grapes and even trimmed along the sidewalk as an extra which I appreciate. My Magnolia looks great and I know it's hasn't been cut in quite some time. They respond quickly, are punctual and fast. FTC is the best Tree Service company we have every used. First of all....they are all nice, fun and interesting people. You would have fun just talking about trees and the methods used to do their work. On the Professional side I felt totally confident in the skills and knowledge that is paramount in a dangerous job they perform day after day. John climbed 180 feet to the top of our tree, cut the tippy top off for our family display and cut a 10 ft chunk off and dropped it 5 feet from the base. I have a red maple tree that broke during a winter storm (*sad face*). Had a few estimates on full tree removal and others who said I could get by with just trimming it. Family Tree Care was one of the "save the tree" guys. Then the Coronavirus pandemic hit and finding someone who was willing to come out to care for this tree and protect the homes nearby proved difficult. I chose Family Tree Care because they not only returned my voice messages/texts in a timely manner but they gave me a FAIR trade price. They also followed up during lockdown to let me know when they were allowed to work on my tree, legally. The crew that finally came and trimmed my tree were very upbeat while respecting social distances (proving they are morally responsible). They had me inspect the tree for any last clean up before they left and overall it was a super pleasant experience. I'll be using them again should any of my other trees need trimming. read more

Overall this was a disappointing level of service. I called regarding a tree that fell. They did promptly call me back, and schedule a time to come out and remove the tree. This was for a rental property so we were not on site. They moved the tree and cut it up. However left the debris. I had to call to find out what the scoop was and when were the coming out to complete the project. Once complete, they sent me a bill. No where in the bill did they disclose there were additional fees if I used a credit card. When I called to pay, they told me I would have to pay more if I used a credit card. I feel that is bad business to not disclose upfront there are additional charges. With a plethra of other options available in Tacoma, I would go a different direction. Not a high level of customer service, and for such an expensive service, it isn't worth it. read more

I am so disappointed in this company, I chose them after reading the reviews. I emailed to have an estimate done on pruning my trees, Jay and another guy came out within a couple of hours. We stood out in the pouring rain, discussing what needed to be done. Their enthusiasm and passion for their work was impressive. They left, and I was certain they would be the ones to do my job. That was Nov 13th and I still don't have a quote and have not heard a word back, even after emailing to ask if they were interested in bidding. Theses guys have removed trees (150ft cedar) as close as 18" from my house. Who builds a house between 4 red cedars in 1970 and doesn't anticipate growth? Jay and Johnny are great, fantastic professional company. I recommend to everyone. Have had them do work on three separate occasions and will ask them back again. Be realistic in expectations--if there was a recent storm and limbs are everywhere, it may take a day to get a call back, but they will call you first if a tree is in your roof!
