We've ordered a family style to share among 5 of us. Chicken & Corn Soup 3/5, Beef with Broccoli 4/5, General Tso's chicken 3/5, Szechuan Eggplant, 4/5 and Salt & Pepper Pork 2/5. The soup barely had any chicken. Little to no seasoning for the pork. General Tso's chicken was more like sweet and sour chicken. The food was just mediocre overall. How was service? What service? I think it's a family owned restaurant with two servers. He basically took our orders, deliver the food and that was it. Didn't follow up with us. Didn't ask if we needed more tea. We decided to give this Chinese restaurant a chance, because they had some recent good Google reviews. We were able to place our take out order very easily, because their staff were bilingual and spoke excellent English. When I arrived at the restaurant to pickup my order, it was very nice that there was some customer parking in the back. Once I stepped into the restaurant, I was quickly greeted and given my takeout food. Our overall opinion of our Chinese food was just average. We were disappointed that there wasn't much chicken in our chicken fried rice. Our spring rolls were dry and appeared to be overcooked. I was pleasantly surprised to receive my order in a timely manner delivered by a very pleasant gentleman. I ordered a large Hot and Sour soup that truly hit the spot, along with Ma Po Bean Curd which was cooked exactly to the spice level I wanted. In addition, I ordered Canonese Chow Mein and Szechuan Style Fried rice; both were very good. I found the prices to be reasonable so my opinion of the Famous Chinese Restaurant has improved significantly. I was skeptical of having Chinese food here to be completely honest. There's great canadian-American food in Canmore, but Asian food? Yes, they do! Expensive, but that goes with the territory of being near a touristy gathering place like Banff. The yangchow fried rice tasted like yangchow rice at home. The salt and pepper fish fillet tasted like fried fish fillet back home. The sweet and sour... Well, you get the idea. This place was a perfect solution to ease our home sickness for comfort food. We also got the honey garlic chicken wings and it was crispy, sticky and sweet. Delicious! In the same time, you should plan to visit Canmore mountain or farmer market on every Thursday from May to October. We're here for Sled Dog tour and farmer market and visited this restaurant. Somehow Canadian Chinese restaurants has good wonton soup as pre-meal item. We order the Sichuan pan fried noodle and the spicy beef. The noodle is the best on our selection. The chicken is average. The food is always delicious, I've tried a bunch of different dishes and you really can't go wrong with anything. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable and portions are big. The interior is a bit dated and could definitely do with some updating. Unfortunately they removed my favourite deep-fried crispy rice dish from the menu, but there's still lots to choose from. Definitely was not satisfied. Had to reorder after getting meat in a dish we explicitly stated to exclude meat. They do not seem to make dishes spicy at all, and the only type of hot sauce they had were small sriracha packets. Well the food was great!!! But a Chinese restaurant without chopsticks is hilarious. Well we asked 3 times and they never gave it to us. The service was kinda all over the place. She didn't remember my pop order which was basically....just a simple pop order. We asked for really spicy food and it wasn't at all. But overall the food was good and they had the Olympics on which was fun. Would of been 4/5 if we had chopsticks. Another thing that was nice, they left the machine at the table for us to pay. We have been here a few years ago and decided that we needed another fix of great Chinese food. For a few years I have been trying to find "sizzling rice" and the place has it. It was not the same as what I had somewhere else but it was excellent. There was a tomato based sauce with shrimp, peas and fresh tomatoes in a very flavorful sauce. The sizzling rice is something everyone should experience -- like Chinese rice krispies!! :) We also ordered Ginger Beef as it is a staple and an item I use to judge the of the quality of food. It was by far the best Ginger Beef I have had in my life -- bar none! It was so crunchy and I was worried that it would be like eating strips off of a tire. It definitely did not disappoint -- the beef was so tender that it could be cut with a fork. Amazing!! Service was great as well. Our server didn't know about the sizzling rice and went to the back twice to make sure she had the correct answers. Very pleasant and more than willing to accommodate. The remainder of the restaurant filled up over the next 30 minutes. We never got any food for 45 minutes. All the other tables that came after us were served and some were leaving by the time we got our soup! It was obvious they had forgotten to put our order in. Instead of acknowledging the mistake they just told us it was busy and avoided any further eye contact. Never got more water, had to go ask for the bill. Unacceptable! This place was awful. I'm not just being dramatic - the food, service, and general ambience of this place is just bad. I was in Canmore for work-related reasons with a colleague that picked this place because the other places around were somewhat busy. I have no idea why someone would go to a crappy Chinese place when there were plenty of other options around besides sheer impatience. This place had no one in it and something seemed out of place upon entering. I didn't feel like arguing about where to go for lunch, so I obliged, though the place across the street looked a LOT more inviting. Anyway... We were served some hot tea in a pot without a strainer and a bunch of tea leaves floating about. After 5 minutes of steeping, the tea was still very weak. The waitress ignored us for a while, then meandered over to our table. I ordered the eggplant - they were out. I chose another vegetable dish - also out. I was getting annoyed and chose the shrimp and cashews. Suprise, they actually had it. My colleague ordered some lunch combo. A while later the food came out. My shrimp were barely cooked. My colleague's plate looked like a combination of dog food and overcooked vegetables. I wanted to say "HAHA I told you this place would be bad!" but held my tongue. My shrimp and cashews tasted like salt brine with some chili flakes thrown on top. Absolutely awful. I took a couple bites and put it to the side. My colleague finished a portion of his plate and said it wasn't very good. We left the food, paid the bill, and walked across the street to CommuniTEA and had a fantastic, fresh lunch. Terrible experience. I do not understand the other reviews. From the moment you wak in you can sense there is not going to be a good experience to be had. The service was TERRIBLE. they acted like they did not know what they were doing, the waitress was taking our orders and as she was doing that , the phone rang and she just left to go answer the phone (twice!). We were stumped but too hungy to go out looking anywhere else since we had been to 2 restaurants before this and there was over 1 hour wait to seat us. The fact that this restaurant had no one inside should have been a red flag... After finally taking our orders, the waitress told my son that they ran out of the steaming rice , which he wanted, then he ordered something else and thy did not have it either. OK... The food came one by one and not all together, my husband's dish came after we had all pretty much finished our plates. Very disorganized. I don't know if they are understaffed but it sure felt like it. They could not manage a table of 6. The food was mediocre to say the least. Nothing to write home about and nothing to make you want to come back. The icing on the cake was that my son's girlfriend got really sick after eating her food. Never again. Awesome chinese restaurant in town! We went there for dinner. The food was delicious.. But more importantly the service was overwhelming.. We were sort of last customers. So the owner of the restaurant - George - asked us about our trip itinerary. After dinner he sat down with us with maps of Banff and Jasper and helped us decide which places to visit in next couple of days in Rockies. It was amazing.. Very personal.. Because of his suggestions we visited Mt. Edith Cavell in Jasper and we were in awe when we visited there! George - you rock! You serve delicious food with helpful tips.. Awesome..
