My girlfriend and I ate at Seoul Country after a long day of exploring Sulphur Mountain. The restaurant is kind of tucked away in a mall, but there are signs advertising it on the main street. It was a particularly cold and windy day so some Korean soup sounded amazing. We came around 3PM so it wasn't too busy. The place looks a little dated and seems like it used to be a different type of restaurant but that doesn't really matter to me. The food is good which is the most important part. Then banchan came first and there weren't as many dishes as I'm usually used to. My favorite banchan is definitely fishcakes and they were missed here. The kimchi was good though and so was everything else. I ordered the Sokkoritang or Oxtail Soup. The broth was super flavorful and milky while the oxtail was super tender. This was so comforting after being in the cold for a few hours. I could sip on the broth all day. It wasn't overly salty, in fact it was under salted but they provide salt for you to salt the dish to your liking. My girlfriend got the Galbitang or Short Rib Soup and she seemed to really enjoy it. The short ribs were cooked well and came off the bones easily. The broth was nice and beefy. Service was good. I can definitely recommend Seoul Country. read more

After running around all day looking at beautiful views in Canmore. One can get a little famished. So yea, the squad and I decided to have a proper sit down dindin here at Seoul Country in downtown Banff. Lets get to the food shall we. Gamja Tang - Really nice and comforting. Its exceptionally delish. Meat is super fall off the bone tender. 9/10   Japchae - Noodles are a bit overdone, but the flavors to forgive the soggy noodles. 7.8/10   Hameul Pajoon - Pancake is pretty, a bit skimpish on the ingredients. Other than that its a pretty good pancake. 7.3/10   Assorted Banchan - Kimchi was pretty good, the spinach was ok, the bean spouts are tasty and the reddish was superb. 8/10   Bibimbap - Pretty Good,, a bit more flavor is needed but the Gochujang does take it home. 7.5/1]   Bulgogi - its a bit on the mid side. Some flavor needed, but over all not bad. 7/10   Galbi -  Actually nicely seasoned and marinated. It stands by itself. I adore a good galbi. 8.8/10 The setting is pretty nice. Service was on point and I would highly recommend for a proper sit down meal after a long day of looking around. For some reason, Korean food sounded amazing when we were here, probably because it was cold and rainy outside. We found Seoul Country Korean Restaurant in Banff Town. We were the first customers for the evening as they open for dinner at 4:30. We got seated and the food came quickly. They had fewer banchan selections than I am used to, but they were enough. We ordered Seolleongtang (beef bone broth soup), Yuk-Ge Jang (spicy beef broth soup with glass noodles) and Jap-Chae (bouncy green bean noodle stir fry). All were delicious.  Overall, we were happy with our choices and the food was pretty good, especially considering where we were. The staff were friendly and responsive to our requests. 1 Star - Subtle but Clear Discrimination Against Non-Korean Guests I usually don't leave negative reviews -- even when I have a bad experience, I just move on. But what happened at this restaurant was different. It wasn't just poor service. It felt like we were treated as less important -- and the only real difference between us and other guests was that we aren't Korean. I went to this Korean restaurant with a group of five. I put my name on the waitlist and was told the wait would be 30 minutes. After 20 minutes, the hostess came back and said it would be another 30 minutes. I said OK and continued to wait patiently. Twenty minutes later, she came again and said they couldn't seat five people together -- that we'd need to split into two tables. I asked what would happen if we didn't want to split, and she said the wait would be another 15 minutes. At that point, I figured I had already waited this long, and most places would also have a wait, so I stayed and agreed to split. But what really rubbed me the wrong way was what I saw while waiting: there were two tables that could clearly seat five people -- one was a five-top booth, and the other a four-top with an extra chair. It was strange that they insisted no such seating was available. It almost felt like the hostess wanted us to get frustrated and leave. I tried to ignore the feeling, assuming I was just overthinking it. When our turn finally came, we were seated at two separate tables -- even though those two five-person tables were still empty. I looked at one of them, and the hostess immediately said, "Oh, that one is reserved." Which didn't make sense, because I had called earlier that day and was told they don't take reservations -- only a waitlist. Soon after, I saw that "reserved" table given to a Korean-speaking family of five. I didn't get angry -- I understand they had a kid and maybe needed space -- but it still didn't sit right. Then I noticed the second five-person setup was given to another group that also appeared to be Korean. That's when it became clear: groups who spoke Korean and looked Korean were being prioritized. It got worse after we were seated. We waited longer than tables that came in after us -- I saw people who were seated at least 15-20 minutes after us get their food first. When I asked for a banchan refill, I was told they were "all out." Yet just a few minutes later, another table -- again, Korean-speaking -- received more banchan. To top it off, the hot plate they gave us was so scratched up that you could see the non-stick coating flaking into our food. It was unsanitary and careless. This wasn't just a bad night. It was repeated signals that we -- as non-Korean customers -- were not valued the same way. I don't say this lightly, but the pattern of behavior felt racially biased. From the waitlist games to the seating excuses to the delayed service and missing items, everything pointed to us being treated as second-class guests because of who we are. I don't usually waste time writing reviews like this -- but this experience was different. It was disappointing, hurtful, and upsetting. If you're not Korean, just be aware: you may be treated differently here. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant. I would give it negative stars if I could. read more

I drove from Seattle all the way to Banff. It was exhausting but, the beauty on the way just took over my tiredness. However, my body asked for a good energy meal and was craving for a Korean food. And there it was, Seoul Country Restaurant in middle of Banff downtown. They are the oldest Korean restaurant in here and different than how it was before (over 30 years ago) it got lot more better in terms of a shape. I ordered Do-ga-ni Tang. Is a Tendon in Ox Bone Broth. Nowadays every health conscious people asks for a Bone Broth and they are pretty expensive in markets. Just remember, you will find them much cheaper and healthier in Korean restaurants who serves them and for a bonus, this broth had a Tendon "Collagen!!!" Anyway, the food arrived and had the first sip. It was good as it can get. Their method is pretty traditional and I can say they keep the Korean Style intact even in this far up in the mountains. The Ban-Chan (Side dish) was very fresh and tasty. I check other foods in the menu and definitely it looked good. Inside ambiance of the restaurant is also somewhat similar to some of the city side restaurants in Korea. The gentlemen who served us was very polite and kind. For those who wants to have some Korean food here, I definitely recommend this restaurant to give a try. I came here recently while passing through Banff. Food had decent portions and was pretty good. It wasn't anything mind blowing but is comparable to other Korean restaurants. I tried the Ox tail in ox bone broth soup. It came with salt+ pepper seasoning in a small plate and a bowl of rice. Note that the soup by itself is bland so I had to add the seasoning myself to adjust to my likening. Do not add the whole plate of seasoning or else it will be too salty. My partner liked his kimchi pork stew. The spicy stir fry squid was good as well. They were pretty typical Korean dishes. The thing that could be improved is the service. It was a bit disorganized as we saw people who ordered after us get their food first. We were also brought a wrong plate a food that we didn't order. read more

Seoul Country is so delicious and comparable to the Korean restaurants in San Diego and Orange County. Everything we ordered was delicious, would definitely come again if I revisit Banff. I think this is a solid place. If I were to go back in time I would go this restaurant every night in banff instead of all the mediocre overpriced touristy places I did end up eating at. It is, of course, by no means the best Korean food but it is very solid. This is coming from a Korean. I would definitely describe this as there is nothing to complain about - the flavor is nice but not mind blowing. The quality is nice but again not mindblowing. This establishment is located on the second floor inside a sort of indoor mall in Banff. Once entering you're greeted by a host - we were seated immediately. There was no wait. The tables started to fill up pretty quickly after we arrived and the servers were busy so they weren't extremely attentive or quick but it was understandable. The restaurant overlooks a parking lot. But just like the rest of Banff, there's a huge beautiful mountain in the distance so it's not a bad view at all. There's also a huge mural on the neighboring building wall of more beautiful mountains. Mountains everywhere. They seem to offer pretty much all the basics of Korean dishes here as well as KBBQ. I was surprised to see they had ox-tail soup. If you've never had I highly recommend - it's the same taste as the white creamy seolleongtang but with the meat as ox-bone tail. Unfortunately as I said previously, nothing is stellar here so the meat wasn't really too fresh or high quality but it was extremely tender - a signature point of the oxbone soup. They do offer a surprisingly high number of soups here and it was definitely a lovely ending to a long and tiring day hiking on the mountains. read more

Rating is more of a 3.5 but Im rounding up for the friendly server. We were craving Korean food during our trip, and this was the only available option near us. The service is really slow, and the bathroom was out of order. The food is a little more than decent. I ordered the galbi tang which was the only yummy dish for me and the kbbq was okay. The cast iron ended up boiling the meat rather than grilling it so that was a bummer but the meat was marinated well. We didn't get to finish our second portion of meat because the server took too long to come back to our table. Totally not his fault because the place is definitely understaffed. He kindly helped us cancel the second order and gave us the check. Will I come back? Yes, for the galbi tang. LOL read more

Go somewhere else unless you want to be treated poorly or be up charged. My entire family left with such a bad taste in their mouths. Food is actually mediocre. The servers follow rules so the true negative feedback is around the management and owners on how they train their staff to treat their customers. They charge you extra on the side dishes that all Korean restaurants *should not* and do not charge extra money for. You will genuinely walk away feeling so turned off, angry, upset and with a negative experience because they are stingy about every food they serve and make you feel guilty for asking for an extra refill on kimchee. This is so contradictory to the Korean culture & traditional experiences you get at a Korean restaurant. They specifically told us that they will give smaller portions based on the guest group size. read more

Terrible service. Absolutely terrible. Food is decent enough but their servers are ridiculous. Kimchi (side dish) is free. We asked for one more dish because there were 8 of us. We were told they would charge an additional $3 BUT the existing kimchi was unlimited refills. So...let me get this right, to get literally one extra dish they would charge for a condiment that is already free. Another annoying thing is that they don't know how to count. Physically checked the number of rice bowls that were served. This happened on BOTH occasions that were visited. We ORDERED extra rice for the kids and when we told them they didn't bring out enough, they stood in front of the table and RECOUNTED 4 times. On top of the, they did NOT tell us gratuity was included UNTIL WE ASKED. While we were in Banff last August, we managed to try different restaurants its cheat treat for three days. It was a cold rainy afternoon, so we craved for bbq; glad to see Seoul Country Restaurant. I see some reviews of how disorganized this restaurant was, however so far; we had a good experience here; the waiter was able to seat us, guide us with their menus, keep coming back and assist us on grilling the bbq. Another thing that I remember here would be this is where I appreciate and did love cold noodles. We had; Bibim Naengmyeon ($18) we were skeptical about ordering this, but for a change, we wanted to try something different. Surprisingly we all liked the icy, chewy, slightly sweet, vinegary, spicy taste. It was my second time eating cold noodles, which made me want more. Any restaurant with cold noodles to recommend here in Vancouver? Soon Doo Boo ($18) has an excellent soothing taste; Tufo was soft and refreshing. Haemul Pajun ($25) savory pancake with lots of scallion and seafood; it was a large serving. We only had a taste each, then took home the rest; it was still delicious after microwaving the next day. Wang Kalbi ($38) is well marinated and so tasty, with lots of side dishes that come with it. Overall, our bbq craving was satisfied. I think it's a bit high in price, but this is Banff, so yea, not sure if there are other Korean restaurants aside from them. So in case you are on vacation there, check them out. read more

i came here with my friends during our trip to banff and this place was great! as a korean i was skeptical of some random korean place in this touristy town but we were pleasantly surprised :) the restaurant is fairly big and sat all 12 of us and the servers were super nice!! --- seollongtang we came back from being freezing cold so this was exactly what i needed! it was super solid! obviously came with the salt, pepper, and green onions and was good! We spent so long trying decide where to eat in Banff, as most places we tried going were extremely crowded. We eventually decided to eat a Seoul Country as it didn't have a wait to get seated and we were very hungry. The wait for food was not too long. The Japchae and bibimbap could have used a bit more flavor as they were somewhat bland. Was craving some soondubu cause it was so cold and I was craving some comfort food. My friend got the kimchee jigae and that was tasty as well. The banchan was ok. Could have used a little more seasoning on the bean sprouts and seaweed. For what we paid I feel like at other establishments back home you would get more but hey, beggars can't be choosers out here. The mandoo was also subpar, but I'm a bit of a mandoo snob as my moms homemade mandoo is highly superior than any restaurant. The service is great, the staff are friendly and very attentive. What a treat to find an authentic Korean restaurant in the heart of Banff. The staff was very young, and the music was K-Pop or Korean Rap.. It added a whole new dimension to our delicious food experience. The Banchan was limited to 4 dishes, but boy where they delish. They make their own Kimchi, and it's probably some of the best we've ever had. We started off with the Twi-gim Man-doo (fried dumplings). Next we had the Soon Doo Boo and Kim-chi Ji-gae. All the tastes were amazing. The broths were little watery on both, but very tasty. The only reason we didn't give them 5 stars is because there was only one waiter for about 5 tables. Been here a couple of times now, Heather has a love for this spot from her days living in Banff way back when. I really want to like this spot more, but it just doesn't hold up flavor wise to the Korean spots I have tried in Edmonton. The staff couldn't be more friendly, and the service is great. But the dishes are pricey for Korean food and it just doesn't pack the tastiness of other places I've tried. Now granted, I haven't tried the Korean BBQ here, but the plated dishes we have ordered are fresh and look amazing. This past time Heather had the hot stone bowl Bi-bim-bap and I opted for the pork and tofu stew (sorry can't recall the name on it). My stew was supposed to be "very spicy" but didn't pack much punch at all for heat. It was hot and tasted good, it just had no wow factor. Exactly how I found Heathers Bi-bim-bap. I think they "Canadianize" the spice here for tourists, and that is probably what's missing. The small appetizer plate with kim chi, pickled bean sprouts, etc. is a nice touch. We also tried the gyoza as an appy, and for the second time in a few months we received deep fried gyoza. Wtf? Is this a thing? How did I go my entire life only ever receiving pan fried gyoza and now twice in a few months have received deep fried? It mucks up the texture and takes away from the flavor. I'm not a fan. We will be back, as I said Heather loves this place... so next time I will try the Korean BBQ and see if that's the winner here. read more

I visited downtown Banff and went to the Korean restaurant for dinner with 3 families at 6 pm on December 31st. There are some consumers, and about half of tables are occupied. I don't know Korean food at all, but some of my group members were Korean, so they ordered food for us. The side vegetables and a kind of seafood pancake were very good. I think servers were kind. When I visited there, the faucet at the restroom for men was broken. They apologized about it and told me a location of a public restroom. read more
