Today was the worst experience I've ever had with my eight year-old and 10-year-old son at famous Dave's in Greenfield, Wisconsin in the last 10 years I've been going there. I would never take my family there again after the experience I had. The manager got the order wrong and on top of it the assistant manager came out and pushed me with his actual forearm and said do not argue with me about what you "I" ordered. I would like them to go to the cameras, and if they do have audio recording can verify the exact situation that I encountered. The time would be today June 9th at 7:45-8pm. The assistant manager, Hispanic origin, said I'm lucky that my "kids are with you today or it would be a different story". My kids said they will never forget what happened today because of what he said. I do have audio recording and video record recording but of course in the private setting it is illegal to share in WI. I will never go back to that restaurant again (Famous Dave's) and will share with family & friends the encounter I had publicly . That restaurant(Famous Dave's) should be ashamed of themselves and the management that they have hired to represent an organization that is widely respected. Shame on famous Dave's in Greenfield for the way they've acted towards me and my family, I will not let that happen again. My best luck is with the smoke shack downtown. I have no affiliation with that company, but they are a family orientated barbecue restaurant that I respect and they respect my kids. Never will I go again to a famous Dave's anywhere in the state, including the Wisconsin Dells, which I regularly visited prior to this event. read more

The meats in the Feast and the ribs appetizer were delicious. However, we had to ask them for more corn and muffins since the Feast was meant to feed four people. Second time here in, idk, 10 years. We went tonight for dinner. We had 2 'que combos (brisket and a chicken and brisket). We had cole slaw, beans and garlic mashed. Sides were okay. Proteins were okay. Cornbread muffin was dry. The service wasn't good. Took more than 5 minutes for our waiter to come by. He brought our drinks and food. Wasn't terribly friendly/welcoming. I consider Famous Dave's to be one of the most underrated BBQ places in the Milwaukee area. If I am looking for some consistent BBQ, this is my go to - no question about it. They have the best food for value, their to-go is always timely and restaurant vibe is a very classic American style restaurant. I would be remiss if I did not mention the service. It can be a challenging experience for some to eat at the restaurant itself. There does not seem to be general lack of attention when it comes to interactions from the servers. I went here one time and waited around 30 minutes for the check. Only getting it when I tracked down the server, who was in the from on his phone. Overall, the food is like a 6/5 but service is a 3/5, so round it out in the middle with 4/5 for the restaurant. To-Go is the most consistent option if you want to eat here. read more

So we ordered from this location through grubhub expecting a long wait since its fathers day and at the time of our delivery we got a call from the driver who was almost impossible to understand due to his thick Indian accent. From what we could make out our order would be another 40 minutes late. However, the app said it was canceled due to lack of menu items. Wow. I'm sad to say this may be one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Not because it's really that bad but because Famous Dave's is a tired, worn out shell of what it once was. We used to frequent the location out in Waukesha quite a bit in the mid 2000s. The food was always top notch, the vibe was vibrant and fun, and the service was fantastic. Fast forward 20 years later, we thought we'd give Famous Dave's another chance and my god - it has slumped wayyyyyyy downhill. First off, this location underwent a remodel recently and good lord the lack of character, decor, and style was downright offensive. What was one a fun, colorful place with interesting "southern themed" antiques on the wall and a cozy, upbeat atmosphere has been stripped down to a "modern" migraine-inducing mess. You can tell it was just some corporate vision for a "refresh" to appeal to millennials and gen-z's incessant need to paint everything grey. The lighting was god awfully bright - seriously, I left with a massive headache and it was not a fun place to spend any time. I actually had to shield my eyes walking to the bathroom due to this hanging lightbulb feature where they had the brightness cranked up to the max with these nauseating LED bulbs. The music was awful as well. They used to play a good mix of blues and country. Now they played the same standard crap you would hear at an Applebee's. No one wants to hear a mix of Bruno Mars, Post Malone, and Sting while eating any type of food, much less barbecue. Plus it kept cutting in and out which added to the dizzying atmosphere. The bathroom was filthy as well. I was hoping the food would make up for the tasteless decor and atmosphere but boy was I wrong. My sister's chicken tenders came out literally burnt. I don't know how any self respecting fry cook or waitress allowed those atrocities to leave the kitchen. She told them immediately and they replaced them with slightly less burnt chicken strips which were cooked in very old grease. My ribs were tough and had a very off flavor. They skimped you on the sides as well. The cornbread muffin, while still good was about half the size of what they used to give you. The salad somehow came out warm and was missing key ingredients that were advertised on the menu. My mom's pulled pork sandwich was cold as well. Unfortunately Famous Dave's, which was once a fun, family oriented place to enjoy barbecue has been shelled out by obvious corporate cost cutting and lack of passion and oversight. Regrettably, this is true for every location I've been in the past 4-5 years, including the one in Madison and La Crosse. Sad. Just pitiful. Another one bites the dust, folks! read more

We haven't been here since it opened. At the time we weren't very impressed by their barbecue. It's been a few years so I sort of forgot about our previous experience. I got a gift card. How bad could it be? They are famous after all for BBQ! We went for lunch and waited in the hostess lobby for about 10 minutes when a passer by noticed us. He put us in this section that had already about 10 tables to one waitress. I got the two meat lunch combo with the St. Louis Ribs and catfish fingers. My side was mashed potatoes. Again this is supposed to be a reputable BBQ joint. I got two of the thinest, boney ribs ever. Yes only 2. The catfish fingers were good but the mashed potatoes dried out. The hubby got a burger med rare and it was over seasoned and over cooked. Honestly I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Sodas alone were nearly $4. The meals not worth the $15 price tag each. And I didn't get my cornbread muffin. read more

Placed an order on GrubHub for food delivery. Was told by the GrubHub driver, and through the GrubHub application that my order have been canceled one minute before the order was to be delivered. The stated reason on the GrubHub app of the order being canceled was the restaurant was out of the menu item. My understanding is that a restaurant is supposed to call the customer to let them know they are out of a menu item and if the customer wants to make a replacement for the menu item or to cancel the entire order. This did not happen. Also tried to call the restaurant when the phone was picked up by the restaurant it was promptly hung up. read more

We ordered food online at 11:30 am for a 5:30 pick up time. We arrived at 5:30 to pick up the food and were told it would be a 45-60 minute wait. (FOR FOOD THAT WAS ORDERED 6 HOURS PRIOR) We asked to talk to the manager and he continuously ignored us and kept answering the phone and pretending he didn't see us. When he finally talked to us he said the food just needed to be bagged up, but 20 minutes later we still did not have the food. Altogether we ended up waiting an hour and a half for 3 half slabs of ribs with potatoes and corn on the cob. Also, the ribs were tough and we didn't get the bacon for our baked potato. I spoke to the manger on 4 different occasions to rectify my experience, he assured me I would receive a refund in 7 days. It's been over 2 month, and to date I have yet to receive my money back. He told me his higher ups would call me, to date I haven't received a call or a refund. For the price point you can't beat it! Famous Daves was the only BBQ in this area up until 5 years ago. They do a good job. I think they smoke properly and "fall off the bone" is over cooked, which I agree with. We eat here 1-2 times a year and never have a complaint. We did notice that there was some issue in the kitchen, as several tables waited for food to come out, like 25-40 minutes. There were at least 8 severs at the ready. Manager was in the kitchen. We watched several groups with families decide not to wait the 30-35 minutes they were quoted for a table. At least 60 people walked out during our wait. We waited the 25 minutes, great server and timely, perfect food. The restaurant was clean and neat, including the restrooms. I hope the issue is resolved. Alright this is where I've gone before I knew what actual smoked bbq was . Its ok but not smoked and not to me what real bbq is suppose to be. It's super close to me so it's convenient and they have lunch specials and I do like bbq sauce. It fixes my sauce craving for now but would rather it have the smoky flavor for the meats. They have ribs, chicken, chopped pork, hot sausage link etc. They are distancing tables and masks are on. Waitress was friendly . Ordered food to be delivered from online delivery company. Food arrived promptly but the extra sides we ordered were missing. No problem that happens figured I would call the store to just get those items refunded. Not so easy!!! Talked with Dee who told me management was busy and would call me back. Again. No problem it was the noon hour. Waited and called them back at 3:30. Again told managers were busy. I told Dee that now I was getting upset. This is a simple problem and I should not have to wait around hours to try and get it fixed. Frankly Dee didn't care. Not even when I told her that I would post a review. My boyfriend and I were craving bbq so we decide to stop in. There was about a 20 min wait to sit. No big deal as one would expect for a Saturday night. 30 mins later we get seated at our table. We sit at the table for 15 minutes without anyone saying a word to us. We get a little frustrated but are usually understanding because we don't know how many tables the waitresses has. Finally she greets us and takes our order. The rest of the meal she doesn't get us refills or anything. This young man was helping all the tables and getting them refills which I appreciated. It was way understaffed (I assume) for a Saturday at 5pm. We decided to sit at the bar to order food since the wait time for a table was 20 minutes. After placing our order, the food took about 40 minutes to come out. We would have ordered appetizers if we knew it would be so long. I think the wait to be seated was because the kitchen was understaffed since we observed a lot of open tables when we used the bathroom. Our bartender tried her best, but she was just unable to keep up with the ridiculous amount of alcoholic drinks she needed to prepare for tables. I had to wait a bit to get my water and soft drink refilled, during which time my mouth was burning from my buffalo wings. This place is the Applebee's of barbecue joints on the inside. We settled on FD because he wanted a sandwich and I wanted a meal. We ended up ordering the brisket platter for him and the barbecue combo for me (choice of two meats, I chose rib tips and chicken tenders). I guess I didn't quite understand the menu description of chicken tenders, because the menu made it sound like I would get something a little more gourmet than what I got: frozen tenders cooked and plated. The pluses were that they were hot (like food should be) and not greasy. My rib tips were not what I expected either....I was expecting something more along the lines of burnt ends, but what I got was more like boneless rib meat. That was actually a good thing, as the rib meat was pretty tasty on it's own. The dish came with honey mustard for the chicken and a house made sauce for the tips. I had to ask the server what the house sauce was because I thought it was weird tasting (hubs liked it). Turns out it was a mixture of their sassy sauce and buffalo sauce. Like I said, I didn't care for it....it wasn't the heat, I like heat. It just had an off-putting taste to it, so I stuck to the sweet sauce conveniently sitting with the other condiments on the table. I chose the garlic mashed potatoes and pineapple steaks for my sides and both were very good. The meal also came with a cornbread muffin, which I was desperately hoping would be edible. Although I have some southern roots, I do not like dry cornbread. I prefer it to be moist and on the sweet side and I didn't see any honey or butter on the table in case I needed it. As it turned out, this was not my ideal cornbread, but it passed...it wasn't as moist or sweet as I was hoping for, but it wasn't bone dry, either. So the question is, would I return? The answer is yes. I don't think that I would ever SUGGEST this place, but if my dining companions wanted to eat here, I would come with them. 123/2015 read more

Man, I really hate to do this. I stopped in today to cash in a free sandwich coupon for lunch, and everything was for the most part up to par with last weeks review. The food was awesome, the service was excellent. So you ask how this restaurant drops a star in a week? I had some unwelcome visitors join me for lunch. Fruit flies. I know this is a First World problem, and normally one or two wouldn't bother me, but this was like 5 to 10. I spent most of my meal doing an Ace Ventura dance trying to shoo them off my food. It was so bad, I felt like that guy in the Sesame Street- Grover as a Waiter sketch. "No waiter, there's a fly IN my soup".
